The Democrats´ War on
Science Aids Our Enemies
American Thinker, by Clarice Feldman    Original Article
Posted By: real fifi- 1/6/2013 7:52:24 AM     Post Reply
It´s an article of faith among Democrats, crystallized in the book The Republican War on Science, that Republicans are unscientific boobs stupidly opposing such established verities as anthropogenic global warming promoted by those better educated in the mysteries of science (i.e., Democrats). Of course this is nonsense, and this week´s events prove that it´s the Democrats and their appeals to low-information voters (including celebrity and big time coastal donors) that constitutes the real war on science to the detriment of all of us.

Why Notre Dame

The first time I met Lou Holtz was three years ago at a Republican policy retreat—he´s a friend of House Speaker John Boehner. At the time, Notre Dame was a mediocre football team following a string of disappointing seasons. Yet here was a former coach of the team—when it had last been a national power, from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s—predicting a return to the glory days from a newly hired coach. Brian Kelly "will have Notre Dame back in the national championship game," Mr. Holtz said. "The man is a winner."

WASHINGTON — In a memoir, Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, the former American commander in Afghanistan, writes that tensions between the White House and the Pentagon were evident in the Obama administration from its opening months in office. The beginning of President Obama’s first term “saw the emergence of an unfortunate deficit of trust between the White House and the Department of Defense, largely arising from the decision-making process on Afghanistan,” General McChrystal writes. “The effects were costly.”

Speaking on the BBC´s Andrew Marr Show, the Prime Minister said troops would be deployed in the event of another attempt by Buenos Aires to re-take the islands. He made the UK´s "extremely strong" position clear after Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, the Argentine president, renewed her accusations that the islands were stolen by Britain.[Snip] Her position has hardened since last year´s 10 year anniversary of the Falklands War and the discovery of potential oil resources off the coast of the islands. Mr Cameron this morning said he would fight to keep the Falklands in the same way Margaret Thatcher

Lovers of ink and paper, take heart. Reports of the death of the printed book may be exaggerated. Ever since Amazon introduced its popular Kindle e-reader five years ago, pundits have assumed that the future of book publishing is digital. Opinions about the speed of the shift from page to screen have varied. But the consensus has been that digitization, having had its way with music and photographs and maps, would in due course have its way with books as well. By 2015, one media maven predicted a few years back, traditional books would be gone.

This time I should’ve been the one listening. But listening can be tough sometimes when you’re an analyst and a commentator, and people around the country – listeners, readers, media, candidates, causes, businesses, etc. – come to you to find out why things are happening and what may happen next. (Snip)However, there’s a reason I have often compared Gingrich to King David in the Bible, beyond the marriage infidelity both have in common. Both were also extraordinarily God-gifted leaders whose legacies were tarnished by their slack of self-discipline. Both were often at their best when pursuing power

Lawsuit to block punishment

There is not the slightest doubt that Penn State’s football program enabled Jerry Sandusky to sexually abuse numerous children for numerous years. The evidence is beyond overwhelming. Sandusky has been tried, convicted and imprisoned. Former university President Graham Spanier, athletic director Tim Curley and Vice President Gary Schultz have been charged with criminal coverups. The school was ever so lucky that the NCAA withheld the death penalty from its football fund-raising colossus. Still, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett has filed a federal lawsuit to get his flagship university out from under those penalties that the NCAA did bring to bear.

Former congressman Barney Frank´s unusual public plea to Gov. Deval Patrick for the job as interim U.S. senator is getting the thumbs down from one influential Democrat -- Patrick´s former top political strategist. "I respect Cong. The U.S. Export-Import Bank recently steered hundreds of millions of dollars in federal loans to Spanish green energy conglomerate Abengoa, which happens to share an advisory board member with the bank. The Ex-Im Bank approved a $78.6 million direct loan to Spain-based Abengoa in December. It also approved a $73.6 million direct loan to a wind farm in Uruguay, which is owned by Abengoa. Former Democratic New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson sits on both the Abengoa International Advisory Board and is currently listed on the Ex-Im bank’s website as a member of the advisory committee that helps guide bank policy.

Barack Obama has rarely exercised presidential clemency to grant pardons and restore the civil rights of convicted criminals, a power that Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt and other presidents used with dedication to correct injustices in the legal system. Mr. Obama has pardoned only 22 people, fewer than any president since the modern era of pardons began in 1900. He has granted a pardon for 1 out of every 50 applicants, compared with 1 out of 33 for George W. Bush, 1 of 8 for Bill Clinton and 1 of 3 for Ronald Reagan.

Decadence is on the march! And now, a defense of pedophilia as just another “sexual orientation” has been published in the mainstream left wing UK newspaper The Guardian. From, “Paedophilia: Bringing Dark Desires Into the Light:” Paedophiles may be wired differently. This is radical stuff. But there is a growing conviction, notably in Canada, that paedophilia should probably be classified as a distinct sexual orientation, like heterosexuality or homosexuality. Two eminent researchers testified to that effect to a Canadian parliamentary commission last year, and the Harvard Mental Health Letter of July 2010

It looks like President Obama will appoint former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel to be his next Secretary of Defense and could do so as early as Monday. If Obama appoints Hagel then he will once again be telling Israel, “F*#k you.” And why not? For all his antipathy towards Israel, Obama still got more than two thirds of the Jewish vote last year. It tells us that Obama is comfortable with someone who derisively uses the term “Jewish lobby” and “let the Jews pay for it”. It also reminds us that Obama views Israel, not Iran

As Oscar Wilde said, “The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it.” In that spirit, I give up resisting the urge to shout “HYPOCRITE.” Not once, but a thousand times. Start with Al Gore, the low-hanging fruit in the “say one thing, do another” culture. With his sale of Current TV to Al Jazeera, the almost-president instantly doubled his charlatan quotient. The blowhard who often proclaims the end of the world is nigh because of fossil fuels sold his TV business to the emir of Qatar, king of the oil patch.

So long, Richard Windsor. You didn’t really exist, but you sure made your presence felt. Richard Windsor was the nom de plume of EPA chief Lisa Jackson, who announced her resignation last month. Why, you may ask, would a federal bureaucrat need an alias? Did she need cover in order to work on her own version of “50 Shades of Grey”? Does a secret identity liberate her to fight General Zod and Lex Luthor? Or is she, like most users of aliases, trying to hide from the law? The latter seems closest to the truth. Jackson has not been charged with any wrongdoing,

Just before Christmas there was a lot of public concern about America’s declining birthrate, which closed out 2012 at its lowest point since 1920. But in trying to understand why American fertility is on the wane, it’s important to understand that fertility decline is a global phenomenon. Ninety-seven percent of the world’s population lives in countries with declining fertility rates. And as bad as America has it now, things could be worse. We could be Japan. Japan’s fertility rate has been below—far below—the replacement level for decades. And the demographic chickens are finally coming home to roost.

The Californian picked to lead congressional Democrats´ efforts on gun control says the positions held by some gun rights advocates are unnecessarily divisive, and that government action should go beyond simply outlawing certain weapons. "I think assault weapons are a pox on the home of every gun owner," Rep. Mike Thompson said Saturday on CNN. "I think that´s the thing that´s going to cause the overwhelming majority of people in this country who aren´t gun owners to have negative feelings about those of us who are gun owners." Thompson is a gun owner and hunter himself,

Lance Armstrong lied to me. Twice. I know, I’ve got plenty of company. He lied to other journalists, racing officials, his fans, and anyone else who would listen in denying that he used illegal substances in winning his cycling titles. Now comes an orchestrated leak to the New York Times in which Armstrong seems about to fess up, “according to several people with direct knowledge of the situation.” He has “told associates associates and antidoping officials,” says the paper, “that he is considering publicly admitting that he used banned performance-enhancing drugs and blood transfusions during his cycling career.”

When you have an administration run by pinheads who haven’t spent much time outside government, you get things like Cash for Clunkers. According to E Magazine, the “Clunkers” program, which is officially known as the Car Allowance Rebates System (CARS), produced tons of unnecessary waste while doing little to curb greenhouse gas emissions. The program’s first mistake seems to have been its focus on car shredding, instead of car recycling. With 690,000 vehicles traded in, that’s a pretty big mistake.

In the run-up to his 2009 inauguration, President Obama’s inaugural committee made much ado about the fact that they would not be accepting any donations from lobbyists or corporations, nor individual donations in excess of $50,000 — and there was really no reason that they would have needed them, anyway. The Hopenchangey spirit carried over from 2008 was enough to fund all of the balls, concerts, parties, and other pomp surrounding the inauguration the first time around, but this year, the enthusiasm level is sufficiently tarnished that they decided to reverse course on that much-vaunted corporate ban

Change is not always good. That should be obvious to anyone who has observed Congress for more than a minute, but unfortunately there seems to be a built-in human bias which assumes that we collectively get wiser as time passes. This optimism bubbles up despite mankind being the race which up till now has given us the charming innovations of slavery, car bombs, and, of course, flying passenger airplanes into occupied skyscrapers.[SNIP}Mind you, I’m not against progress — I just don’t see much evidence that mankind should be put in charge of it

The White House is weighing a far broader and more comprehensive approach to curbing the nation’s gun violence than simply reinstating an expired ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition, according to multiple people involved in the administration’s discussions. A working group led by Vice President Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks

Addressing the American people for the final time as President, Dwight Eisenhower warned that: This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence--economic, political, even spiritual--is felt in every city, every statehouse, every office of the federal government.[Snip] Sometimes slippery slopes really do exist. Some folk warned that the public health industry--that is, the Government-Health-Security Complex--would never be satisfied with its battles against tobacco and alcohol and that it would, in time, launch fresh offensives against fast food, soft drinks, and all things salty and sweet. The shooting of five people in Swiss village of Daillon, which left three people dead and two wounded, shocked the public because gun crime is particularly low in Switzerland--despite having the third highest rate of ownership in the world. With only the US and Yemen ranking ahead of Switzerland in ownership rates, Switzerland has become the poster child for staunch gun advocates in the US. Following the mass shooting in Sandy Hook School, Newtown, Connecticut in December, in which 20 children and six adults died, the fevered debate around US gun ownership and control hit boiling point with the example
