Chevy Volt sales are cranking up. General Motors sold three times as many Chevrolet Volts in 2012 as it did in 2011, which was the car´s first full year on the market. GM sold 23,461 Volts in 2012 compared with just 7,671 in 2011. While it´s an impressive jump, the Volt is still one of Chevy´s lowest-selling cars. However, the Volt greatly outdid the Corvette, for instance, of which only 14,000 were sold last year.

The Federal Election Commission has fined President Barack Obama´s 2008 campaign $375,000 for an assortment of reporting violations. FEC documents that have not yet been released publicly detail the violations, which include accepting contributions in excess of federal limits, incorrectly reporting the dates of contributions and failing to properly report contributions of $1,000 or more during the final days of the campaign. An audit uncovered the reporting violations. The Obama campaign agreed to correct the errors and pay the fine, according to the FEC documents.

WASHINGTON — When Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton fractured her right elbow after slipping in a State Department garage in June 2009, she returned to work in just a few days. Her arm in a sling, she juggled speeches and a trip to India and Thailand with physical therapy, rebuilding a joint held together with wire and pins. (Snip) But after a fall at home in December that caused a concussion, and a subsequent diagnosis of a blood clot in her head, it has taken much longer for Mrs. Clinton to bounce back.

It requires a special kind of mind to challenge the commonly-accepted beliefs, take note of facts that others overlook, and stand up to tell people what is really going on, what nobody else seems to notice. Such a mind is that of Herbert E, Meyer, frequent contributor to American Thinker. What makes Herb different from most other brilliant original thinkers, however, is that he has a track record of making calls that have changed the world, accomplishing what others dared not even dream of.

Congress did not, in the end, go over the “fiscal cliff,” which is a far cry, of course, from saying that it acted on the massive backlog of policy issues, large and small. Lawmakers avoided the “sequester”--$110 billion in across-the-board spending cuts, half to defense, half to other programs--but only by postponing them for two months. They renewed a number of tax breaks for business but many of them for only a year. They spared doctors a 27 percent cut in Medicare reimbursement rates; but this “doc fix,” as with the many previous ones, lasts 12 months. And yes

According to TPM, America´s favorite never-let-a-crisis-go-to-waste administration is preparing to ram through a number of restrictions to our Second Amendment civil rights as early as Jan 15. The idea behind this strategy is to strike while people´s heightened emotions are still scrambling common sense: The White House and gun control supporters are gearing up for a whirlwind month, with plans to pass reform legislation before outrage over the Sandy Hook massacre has a chance to fade. House Democrats are moving ahead with their own plans as well.

The war against U.N. Agenda 21 just got hotter in Virginia. Thinking Americans understand now what U.N. Agenda 21 is and are not backing down from fighting the anti-American, anti-prosperity, wealth redistribution scheme of the United Nations against our way of life. The U.N. has deemed commercial agriculture unsustainable and has used taxpayer dollars and local supervisors to re-zone, re-shape, and prohibit land use for local agriculture or building that is not approved by their bio-diversity plan

Many of those who expressed outrage at the publication of a two-county interactive map of pistol permit owners by Gannett´s White Plains, New York-based Journal News just before Christmas have raised serious concerns that the paper´s action would directly harm law-abiding citizens. Evidence is pouring in that those fears are legitimate. Fox News, doing something the wire services should have been begun within days of the map´s publication, has unsurprisingly found that "Reformed crooks say the New York newspaper ... did a great service – to their old cronies in the burglary trade." Additionally, a Newsday report identifies four concrete

By law, each April and October, federal agencies are required to release an accounting of proposed regulations that will have an economically significant impact. That didn´t happen in 2012. Instead, the Obama administration didn´t release its 2012 regulatory agenda until on the Friday before Christmas. "The fact that this snuck in after the election, during the holiday season when people were otherwise occupied with their families, is not surprising," said John Malcolm, senior legal fellow at the Heritage Foundation´s Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. Since the Dec. 21 release, legal experts and analysts have been pouring through

What´s $1,635 per year more in taxes for tens of millions of households? That´s just $136.25 taken from a family budget per month. Like prudent mobsters, President Obama and Speaker Boehner are just skimming a little from your earnings to keep the nation from falling off that awful fiscal cliff. As patriots, on the order of 1984, we should all rejoice that Big Brother knows best. Let´s see what a paltry $1,635 buys annually, shall we? And, dear reader, feel free to add to the list. Law enforcement officials from a New York region where a local paper published a map identifying gun owners say prisoners are using the information to intimidate guards. Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco, who spoke at a news conference flanked by other county officials, said the Journal News´ decision to post an online map of names and addresses of handgun owners Dec. 23 has put law enforcement officers in danger. "They have inmates coming up to them and telling them exactly where they live. That´s not acceptable to me," Falco said, according to Newsday.

The White House releases tons of pictures of Obama family dog Bo; pictures of Michelle Obama gardening and hula-hooping; there are even photos of President Obama teaching the Resolute Desk how to do double duty as an ottoman. What there aren´t a lot of photographs of are America´s top general in the "war on women," Barack Obama, and his underrepresented high-ranking female advisers. Why? Because besides the president´s Senior Advisor and admitted ´main man´ Valerie Jarrett, there simply aren´t very many women around. So what does this say about Barack Obama

Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA), on December 17, 2012, announced that she will introduce a bill in the next Congress to stop the sale, transfer, importation, and manufacturing of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition feeding devices (otherwise known as magazines). When asked, "Which special interests in Washington have too much power?," Feinstein answered in May 2012, "Guns." She continued, "We now have something happening in the US that has never happened before. That is, children killing children with guns. Over 13 a day."

Hi, everybody. Over the past year, as I traveled across the country campaigning for this office, I told you that if I was fortunate enough to be re-elected, I’d work to change a tax code that too often benefited the wealthy at the expense of the middle class. This week, we did that. For the first time in two decades, we raised taxes on the wealthiest 2% of Americans in a bipartisan way, while preventing a middle-class tax hike that could have thrown our economy back into recession.

On Jan. 8, 1968,Otis Redding´s "(Sittin´ on) the Dock of the Bay" was released on Stax´s Volt label. Co-written by Redding and guitarist Steve Cropper, the single reached No. 1 on Billboard´s pop chart in March 1968, where it remained for four weeks. Two Grammys followed, along with the song´s induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. Redding never heard the single. On Dec. 10, 1967—just 18 days after the recording session—the 26-year-old singer died in a plane crash in Wisconsin, killing everyone on board except Ben Cauley, the trumpeter in his band.

The German leader joined a group of a carolers for Three Kings´ Day on the steps of the chancellery but raised eyebrows when several of the children appeared in blackface. Traditionally, one of the kings appears with a darkened face as the groups go door-to-door singing carols. Mrs Merkel´s difficulties were added to by news that her coalition partners, the Free Democrat Party (FDP), were sinking in the polls and may not gather enough votes to remain in Parliament.

Sacramento - Fear of embarrassment and budget cuts led California parks officials to intentionally conceal millions of dollars in a department account, according to an investigation conducted by the state attorney general´s office. The report, released Friday, is the most detailed official narrative yet regarding the root of the accounting scandal at the parks department. The scandal broke last summer when it was revealed that the parks department had a hidden surplus of nearly $54 million even though it was threatening to close dozens of facilities. Hello, I am Congressman Dave Camp from the Fourth District of Michigan and Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. Let me be candid. I understand the frustration so many Americans have with Washington right now. And you´re right - this government we have spends too much and wastes too much. It´s time for us to stand up and say ´enough is enough´ to those who would tax and spend even more.

Defeat, like death, concentrates the mind wonderfully. It also liberates the mind. People venture to think the unthinkable, or at least, the impermissible. A new generation of conservatives may be moved to reconsider some ideas that have fallen into disuse or even disrepute. Compassion is one such idea. Shortly after the election, Paul Ryan, addressing the Kemp Foundation, took the measure of the situation in which conservatives now find themselves. In the course of his remarks, he uttered the word “compassion” or “compassionate” five times, by my count?—?in a favorable sense.

The fact the woman was dehydrated from the fact that she’d been overseas so much — I just don’t know, and some of these people I know and I get along with,” Carville said Friday in a CNN interview. WASHINGTON — Fresh off this week’s last-minute “fiscal cliff” deal, President Obama on Saturday dug in as the prospect of another budget clash with congressional Republicans loomed, warning that he will not negotiate over raising the nation’s debt limit. “One thing I will not compromise over is whether or not Congress should pay the tab for a bill they’ve already racked up,” Obama said in his weekly address. “If Congress refuses to give the United States the ability to pay its bills on time, the consequences for the entire global economy
