Suppose you saw a building on fire. Would you seek counsel from the arsonist who set it ablaze for advice on how to put it out? You say, "Williams, you´d have to be a lunatic to do that!" But that´s precisely what we´ve done: turned to the people who created our fiscal crisis to fix it. I have never read a better account of our doing just that than in John A. Allison´s new book, "The Financial Crisis and the Free Market Cure." Allison is the former CEO of Branch Banking and Trust, the nation´s 10th largest bank.

Who doesn’t want to smash things into the moon? Well, there’s Amy Ephron of course. And no, Amy, we haven’t forgotten your inanity. (Snip) Back in January of this year two washing-machine sized probes — nicknamed Ebb and Flow by Montana school kids — linked up a couple of dozen miles above the surface of the moon. They spent most of this year zipping around the moon, in tandem, at 3,600 mph. Now that their primary mission (see below) is accomplished, and they’re running out of fuel, NASA’s sending them out in style. By crashing them

A few things you won’t hear about from the saturation coverage of the Newtown, Conn., school massacre: Mass shootings are no more common than they have been in past decades, despite the impression given by the media. In fact, the high point for mass killings in the U.S. was 1929, according to criminologist Grant Duwe of the Minnesota Department of Corrections. Incidents of mass murder in the U.S. declined from 42 in the 1990s to 26 in the first decade of this century. The chances of being killed in a mass shooting are about what they are for being struck

NEWTOWN, Conn.- A grieving Connecticut town braced itself Monday to bury the first two of the 20 small victims of an elementary school gunman and debated when classes could resume - and where, given the carnage in the building and the children´s associations with it. The people of Newtown weren´t yet ready to address the question just three days after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and a day after President Barack Obama pledged to seek change in memory of the children and six adults ruthlessly slain by a gunman packing a high-powered rifle.

As we learned during the election, Barack Obama can always count on NBC News to help him navigate his way to whatever victory he seeks. This morning, NBC´s First Read -- written by Chuck Todd and others -- is all within the context of winning the argument over the passage of laws that would restrict the law-abiding from purchasing the ability to defend themselves -- in other words, having access to guns. [emphasis added]: [T]he White House is possibly considering. “One possibility likely to be considered is a ban on high-capacity magazines, the devices attached to firearms

Previous Eurovision winners for the country have included the Queen of soft ballads Celine Dion. But this year Switzerland is putting its faith in the Salvation Army, whose guitarist is 94-years-old, to win the contest. Swiss television viewers chose the Christian missionary group´s rock tune You and Me from among five national finalists to represent the country late on Saturday. The Eurovision Song Contest, which next year will be held in Malmo, Sweden, is a kitschy fixture on the European cultural calendar and is watched by more than 100 million people across the world. Viewers and juries pick the winner

Police in Ridgefield, Conn., are searching for a "suspicious person" in the area after an unconfirmed report of a man carrying a rifle at a train station. Authorities, including state police and K-9 units, are scouring the Branchville train station for any sign of the man, Det. Steve Papstein of the Ridgefield Police Department told FoxNews.com. "We´re still looking in the area," Papstein said. "We don´t know if the person is armed." Just before 8 a.m., a woman called police saying she saw a white male, dressed in black, carrying what looked like a weapon over his shoulder at the train station.

It is hard to keep a straight face hearing and reading the mainstream media’s accounts of Egypt’s constitutional referendum. Reuters is typical: Yes, the sharia constitution is going to pass, but Islamists achieved only a “slim vote win” which should “embolden” the “opposition” going forward. Cases of spring fever abound in the West, but this one is clearly terminal. The sharia constitution is not winning by a slim margin. It is winning in a landslide. At the moment, the vote stands at about 56.5% to 43.5% against the “opposition” —

The legislation to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy has been turned into something of a mini auto bailout, according to those familiar with the Obama administration´s request. The request includes millions of dollars worth of cars, to be paid for by the federal government. Obama´s request, as detailed in a letter sent to Capitol Hill by the director of the White House´s Office of Management and Budget, Jeffrey Zients, includes these requests: — “This request would provide $4 million to the Federal Bureau of Investigation to replace vehicles, laboratory and office equipment,

Trenton — Legislation encouraging customers in New Jersey to carry reusable shopping bags and forcing larger retailers to slash distribution of plastic bags gets its first hearing today. The Senate bill requires retailers to charge 15 cents for each single-use plastic or paper bag they give out. It also requires retailers with more than 1,000 feet of space to reduce the number of single-use bags they distribute by 75 percent. The proposal requires retailers to sell reusable bags and switch to compostable plastic or recyclable paper bags. Supporters say the production of plastic and paper bags in the U.S.

COLUMBIA — Media reports say Gov. Nikki Haley today will appoint North Charleston’s Tim Scott as South Carolina’s next U.S. senator, making him the first African-American senator from the South since Reconstruction. The New York Times first reported the appointment, citing multiple Republican sources. Haley will make her pick official at noon today during a Statehouse press conference. Her appointee will succeed the resigning Jim DeMint, who is leaving to head up the Heritage Foundation early next year. Scott’s Washington, D.C. spokesman Sean Smith said he could not confirm reports his boss was the pick

He said that Americans should no longer be ashamed of their belief in a higher power and turn to morality before the tragedy rather than after. Multiple media sources are reporting that South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will indeed name Rep. Tim Scott to be the next senator from South Carolina. Scott will serve for two years, and then presumably run in a special election in 2014. If reelected, he would serve an additional two years (the remaining two years of the six-year term Jim DeMint was elected to in 2010) and then potentially run again for a full-six year term in 2016.

They called their plan "9-11(2)." Yes, the Twin Towers came down on that date. But even more significant to these terrorists, 9-11 would mark the seventh anniversary of al Qaeda´s last attack in Jordan. On Sept. 11, 2005, suicide bombers hit three hotels in Amman, Jordan, killing 60 and injuring over 100 more. This year, the terrorists hope to top that bloody tally. One prime target: the U.S. embassy. (Snip) Fortunately, the Jordanian intelligence service uncovered the plot, arresting 11. That´s how it´s supposed to work. Does the Republican Party want to remain relevant? Or are they willing to be cast, by the not so subtle scorched earth tactics of Barack Obama, the Democrats and the mainstream media, into permanent second class status, and eventual oblivion? The only political weapon, but a potentially powerful one, the Republicans have is control of the House of Representatives. The Speaker of the House thus becomes, by default, the national spokesman and face of the Party. This person is the one sitting alone across the table

From the former Soviet Republic of Georgia comes news of an extraordinary betrayal by the Obama Administration. As Obama continues to abandon freedom in his support of Muslim Brotherhood and Sharia revolutions and regimes in Egypt and elsewhere, he has taken behind-the-scenes steps to further the international isolation of Israel, the only democracy in that Middle East. Just before the November 29 United Nations vote granting non-member state observer status, the U.S. ambassador to Georgia, Richard Norland, an Obama appointee, met with Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili

Police investigators have put together a chilling timeline of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre that left 20 children and six adults dead in the second deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. Investigators believe Adam Lanza, the killer, began last Friday by murdering his mother, with whom he lived, by firing two shots to her head while she was sleeping in her bed. According to a timeline put together by the Hartford Courant, Lanza then went to Sandy Hook Elementary School and forced his way into the building by firing "a half-dozen thunderous rounds

The mother of Newtown school massacre gunman Adam Lanza was a survivalist who was stockpiling food because she thought the world economy was on the verge of collapse. Nancy Lanza began hoarding food and water because she feared that the onging financial crisis was going to bring about the end of civilized society. She reportedly became ´obsessed´ with guns and taught Adam how to shoot, but on Friday in a grim twist he blasted her to death while she laid in her own bed. Law enforcement sources told the Hartford Courant that

Resentment of the rich trumps all else in liberalism, and we are defending against a multi-front class war. President Obama is using a shotgun approach to redistribute your wealth, with multiple attacks on your income, property, savings, and cost of living. These coordinated attacks started after the 2008 election and are now set to hit critical mass in his second term. You may be hearing about the automatic tax increases in the fiscal cliff, plus additional tax increases President Obama is negotiating with Speaker Boehner. But you won´t hear much about liberalism´s most powerful,

The young man who killed 20 children and six adults at a Connecticut elementary school Friday suffered from a condition where he could literally feel no pain, according to a faculty member at his old high school. Richard Novia, the advisor for the tech club at Newton High, said that if Adam Lanza cut or hurt himself, "he would not know it or feel it." Novia´s words are the latest from a series of former acquaintances of Lanza´s to paint him as bright but obviously troubled.
