Obama´s Tacit Approval of

Dennis Miller has pointed to the recent and continuing evidence of the dichotomy between image and reality in the Obama world. Dennis, take a bow. This latest episode of inflammatory language coming from Michigan Democrats and Union officials provides some telling evidence of Obama´s selective concern for provocative and inappropriate political discourse. Obama´s implied consent has been evident throughout his presidency. I don´t ever recall his position regarding the unprosecuted Black Panther polling incident. If only a journalist would ask him to weigh in.

They arrested these nuts just in time. Superstar pop singer Justin Bieber was the target of a bizarre plot hatched by an imprisoned, Bieber-obsessed murderer who allegedly dispatched two New Mexico men to kill and castrate the teen hearthrob at his recent Madison Square Garden show, it was revealed yesterday. One of those men was busted upstate on Nov. 20 — allegedly with pruning shears that were to be used to cut off Bieber’s manhood at a price of $2,500 for each testicle, according to court documents.

After President Richard Nixon was forced from office in 1974, congressional investigators discovered what they believed was the full extent of his use of the FBI and the CIA to engage in domestic spying. In that pre-digital era, the spying consisted of listening to telephone calls, opening mail, and using undercover agents to infiltrate political organizations and, as we know, break into their offices. (Snip) But many Americans did complain to Congress, which in 1978 enacted the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, commonly called FISA. FISA provided that all domestic surveillance be subject to the search warrant requirement of the

Liberals Stonewall on Entitlement
Reform, Republicans Cave on Taxes

It’s becoming quite clear that liberals are stonewalling on entitlement cuts while conservatives are caving on higher taxes for the wealthy. Barack Obama said yesterday that the Republicans would cave, asserting that he was “confident”: I´m pretty confident that Republicans would not hold middle-class taxes hostage to trying to protect tax cuts for high-income individuals. I don´t think they´ll do that. There have been rumors that Obama would consider changing the minimum age for Medicare to 67, but Obama’s statements belie that. He intoned: When you look at the evidence, it´s not clear that it actually

The Supreme Court’s announcement Friday that it will take up gay marriage is more than a chance for the justices to recognize the emerging national consensus in support of gay rights. It is a chance for them to overrule the medieval views of Antonin Scalia. As if in response to the court’s announcement, the acid-tongued justice visited Princeton University late Monday and reiterated his opinion, expressed in a 2003 dissent, that a law banning sodomy is on par with laws forbidding bestiality or murder.

LONDON — A nurse who took a hoax call from Australian DJs about the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge apparently killed herself three days later, with a coroner´s officer saying Thursday she was found hanging by the neck and a detective saying she left three notes. Coroner´s officer Lynda Martindill told an inquest that nurse Jacintha Saldanha was found hanging by a scarf from a wardrobe in her room Friday by a colleague and a member of security staff at London´s King Edward VII Hospital.

A Democratic senator hired an unpaid intern who was an undocumented immigrant but a documented sex offender. Apparently Senator Menendez needed an immigrant to do sex offending that Americans won’t do. Meanwhile, Representative Jim Moran is “embarrassed” by the revelation that his voter-fraud-orchestrating son smashed his girlfriend’s face into a garbage can and pleaded guilty to assault. The girlfriend appears to be doing what she can to make the story go away. But don’t worry, the phrase “war on women” may still only be used to describe people who don’t want to pay for someone else’s birth control. No word

Obama swearing-in to be open to

WASHINGTON--The American public will be able to witness President Barack Obama getting sworn in for a second term; the Presidential Inaugural Committee said Wednesday the unusual Sunday ceremony will be open to media coverage. This should not even have been a question--but it was, because the White House would not say--as recently as Tuesday--whether the event could be covered. "The official swearing-in on Sunday will be open to media coverage," Addie Whisenant, the national spokesman for the Presidential Inaugural Committee told me after I asked her Wednesday about the status of coverage for the historic event.

In my freshman year at Cathedral High School for Girls, Sister Fredericka told us that studying Latin would teach us to think. I didn´t quite get it at the time even after four years studying the dead language. However, these past decades spent observing the dumbing down of Americans make me wish that Latin had become a required subject in public schools. The process of deep thinking is no longer being applied to many areas of our lives, politics being just one. Sportscasters like Bob Costas could have benefited from my teacher because he sure wasn´t thinking deeply

In an interview with Fox News host Bill O´Reilly last year, President Obama claimed he "didn´t raise taxes once." O´Reilly didn´t challenge the claim, and other reporters repeated it as fact. But it was completely false. By the time he went on O´Reilly´s show, Obama had signed more than 20 tax hikes into law with a combined 10-year price tag of more than $500 billion. However, since most of these taxes targeted relatively small and unpopular groups — smokers, tanning salons, insurance companies, the rich — few seemed to notice.

The camouflage fabric that can make soldiers invisible:

The U.S. military is backing the development of camouflage fabrics that could one day make their soldiers completely invisible, it has been claimed. The so-called ´Quantum Stealth´ camouflage material is said to render its wearers completely invisible by bending light waves around them. Its makers claim the material, which is in effect similar to the invisibility cloak worn by Harry Potter, can even fool night-vision goggles. However, its development is apparently so secret the Canadian company behind it says it cannot even show the technology in action and offers only mock ups of its effect on their website.

With its low-flying helicopters slipping under the radar into Pakistan and special forces commandos leaping into the dark compound below, last year’s stunning operation to kill Osama Bin Laden was a Boy’s Own drama that had old-fashioned machismo written all over it. The reality of America’s battle against terrorism, it seemed, couldn’t have been more different to the glamorised, politically-correct fiction of Homeland, the hit TV show in which Claire Danes plays a beautiful CIA agent who spots the Al Qaeda plot which her misguided male colleagues have missed. A Belgian teen battling bone cancer was given the opportunity of a lifetime - to spend a day as a U.S. solder. Antoine Brisbois grew up hearing tales from his grandfather about how U.S. troops liberated his homeland from Nazi occupation during World War II and ever since, the boy has dreamed of experiencing the esprit de corps of the American Army. The 17-year-old´s desire became a reality through the Make-A-Wish foundation, who arranged for Brisbois to learn how to shoot a machine gun and clear a building of insurgents in a training exercise with the 3rd Brigade combat

Edward Davey, the Energy Secretary, this morning lifted a ban on the drilling for shale gas, which was put in place after the UK´s first project near Lancashire caused tremors last year. His decision will allow companies to explore for the new energy source across swathes of countryside in the south, north-west and north-east of England. The first company to drill for Britain´s shale gas--Cuadrilla Resources--will now be able to resume its operations near Blackpool, with new controls guarding against the risk of mini earthquakes. It used to be an accepted truth that America would never negotiate with terrorists -- at least before Obama made ´leading from behind´ so popular -- or the ascendency of his current variation, ´leading from nowhere.´ Well... in fiscal negotiations Barack Obama is a terrorist. Think about it; he has nothing to lose, because he cares only about winning -- the nation be damned. In fact, the economic depredations inherent in cliff diving provide him with an advantage. Pete Rose, whose spectacular hitting on a baseball diamond was sometimes matched by his errors off the field, moves into a new game next month when he stars in a TLC reality show. “Pete Rose: Hits and Mrs.,” will follow the current life of Rose, who is baseball’s all-time career hit leader and is also banned from baseball for life because he bet on games. Rose has never stopped hoping he can get that ban overturned, which would make him eligible for baseball’s Hall of Fame. In the show, we can expect to see him debating whether to launch another formal appeal.

IOWA CITY, Iowa— The University of Iowa has become the nation’s first public university to include optional questions about sexual orientation and gender identity on its application, a move hailed Wednesday by advocates hoping to improve the college experience for gays and lesbians. University officials say the move sends a strong signal that they value the diversity that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students bring to campus. They say that knowing some students’ sexual orientation will allow them to track their enrollment and graduation rates

WE don’t think much about pitch pine poles until storms like Hurricane Sandy litter our landscape with their splintered corpses and arcing power lines. Crews from as far away as California and Quebec have worked feverishly to repair or replace those poles as utility companies rebuild their distribution systems the way they were before. Residents of New Jersey and New York have lived through three major storms in the past 16 months, suffering through sustained blackouts, closed roads and schools, long gas lines and disrupted lives, all caused by the destruction of our electric system.

After the presidential election, the biggest question out there is: What should the Republican Party stand for? The fiscal cliff, no matter the result, was an instant opportunity to elevate the party´s basic beliefs. Instead the GOP is disappearing beneath waves of Beltway process. John Boehner and Mitch McConnell have worked hard to keep their thumbs stuck in the dam of rising tax rates. Still, the fiscal cliff is looking more each day like an inside-the-Beltway CYA operation. Does anyone in the country beyond the halls of Congress and media specialists have any idea what these people are doing?

OK, so not all of us. But that´s what happened to President Obama. After the White House announced that he would attend a "Christmas in Washington" concert this past Sunday, it emerged that Psy, the rapper behind "Gangnam Style," the most viewed YouTube video of all time, had performed a viciously anti-American song in 2004. In a sign of just close she was to David Petraeus, his ex-mistress quizzed the son of legendary spy chief William Colby about the legacy the former CIA director would leave--just days before their sex scandal was revealed. According to Carl Colby, director and producer of a movie about his dad, who served in the Nixon and Ford administrations, Paula Broadwell asked about Petraeus´ legacy during an October 27 awards dinner Colby and the couple attended in honor of the Office of Strategic Services, the predecessor to the CIA.
