Mike Bloomberg is on a mission to take away everyone’s guns. New York City’s billionaire mayor has bankrolled a coalition of municipal chiefs from coast to coast who tirelessly lobby for new laws restricting the rights of law-abiding gun owners. The irony is that many in his coalition of pedophiles, embezzlers, wife beaters, cheaters and violent thugs are no longer eligible to legally own a gun. The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) on Monday detailed the crimes that have been committed by members of Mr. Bloomberg’s gang, Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG).

There is nothing more nauseating than watching Palestinian Muslims in the Palestinian Authority and in Hamas occupied Gaza celebrate as rockets are being fired toward Israel from the Gaza Strip. These same Palestinians took to their roofs and joyously celebrated when America was attacked on 9/11 by Saudi Arabian Muslim terrorists. This is what is happening while Hamas and fellow Muslims in Hamas occupied Gaza fire rockets at Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. To quote, Khaled Abu Toameh, an Israeli Arab, “this hostility is the direct result of years of anti-Israel and anti-Western incitement in the Arab and Muslim world —

That didn’t take long. U.N. ambassador Susan Rice has yet to be nominated as secretary of state, but prominent Democrats are already denouncing opposition to her potential nomination as racist on the basis of remarks by Republican senators that she may not be qualified for the job. Would that they had been so sensitive to racial overtones back in 2004, when the African-American nominee for secretary of state, the Republican Ms. Rice, was denounced on the Senate floor and pilloried in racialist cartoons. Rice’s nomination, noted the Washington Post, garnered “the most negative votes

If the truce announced in Cairo last Wednesday truly brings the Gaza war to a close, it is not too soon to assess who gained and who lost from this conflict. Hamas Hamas provoked the war and chose the timing, so it is not surprising that they thought they would gain—and they have gained. The PLO initiative in the United Nations (to be classified as a “non-member observer state”) was shifting energy to the West Bank leadership, and by these attacks on Israel Hamas shifted it back. Pressured by federal investigators, Jesse Jackson Jr.’s final congressional act exhibited some decency toward his constituents. They’ll finally have actual representation again next spring, after a special election and months of a no-show Jackson. (Snip)President Obama’s home state has not merely lost another congressional seat due to population decline. It also has Jackson’s South Side district that will go unrepresented for another five months and a senator who hasn’t been to work in nearly a year.

President Obama didn’t just pardon a couple of turkeys at the White House yesterday, but unveiled a plan to nearly double protected habitat for the Northern Spotted Owl. The birds have been classified as a threatened species since 1990, and environmental groups went to court to expand the 5.3 million acres dedicated to protecting the bird under the Bush administration. The federal government “finalized a science-based proposal identifying lands in the Pacific Northwest that are essential to the survival and recovery of the northern spotted owl.” But the House Natural Resources Committee chairman —

Before Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius pushed back the deadline last week, governors were required to tell the feds by Nov. 16 whether they planned to build their own state-based exchanges for health care or let the federal government do it for them. They were required to submit detailed plans for building those state exchanges by the same day. (Snip)In other words, the federal government was demanding governors finish their detailed plans for implementing state-based health care exchanges four days before it even told them exactly what plans in those exchanges had to look like.

ARLINGTON, Va. — Here on an expensive but otherwise unremarkable street in the suburbs of Washington, David H. Petraeus is managing a new life in the doghouse. He is seeking forgiveness from his furious wife, missing his old job as director of the Central Intelligence Agency, fighting off cabin fever — and plotting a comeback. Friends say that Mr. Petraeus, who resigned from the C.I.A. on Nov. 9 because of an extramarital affair, so far has offers to teach from four universities, a grab bag of book proposals from publishers in New York and an interest

WASHINGTON—President Barack Obama´s fundraising advisers have urged the White House to accept corporate donations for his January 2013 inaugural celebration rather than rely exclusively on weary donors who underwrote his $1 billion re-election effort. People involved in his re-election campaign said White House staff and campaign advisers have been debating whether to accept corporate money to stage the events but haven´t made a final decision.(Snip) Four years ago Mr. Obama barred corporations from donating to his inauguration, a gesture meant to show that well-heeled interests wouldn´t have undue influence in his administration.

The family of Vincent and Debra Leggio has been tragically torn apart after the couple was killed on Thanksgiving day in a massive 140-car pileup along a busy Texas interstate. Debra Leggio, 60 and her husband, Vincent Leggio, 64, were killed when their 2007 Chevrolet SUV was struck by an 18-wheeler, according to authorities. The Leggios were grandparents and residents of Pearland, Texas, where Vincent worked as an electrician. The Leggio family is one of hundreds affected by the string of collisions Thursday that left trucks and family SUVs twisted atop one another and authorities rushing to pull survivors

When Allied soldiers and airmen were thrown into German prison camps during World War II, they entered a grim world. Armed guards in towers kept watch over the camps, which were encircled by electrified barbed-wire fences. The captives slept on hard, wooden bunks in drafty barracks, and often dropped substantial amounts of weight – some to the point of emaciation – because of the meager and unpalatable food options. About 1,120 soldiers died. Life there was tough, as “Guests of the Third Reich,” the current exhibit at the National World War II Museum, shows. But the desperate conditions forced the inmates

At The Atlantic´s website, a debate is under way over the college "hookup culture"--the prevalence of casual sex on campus--and whether it is good for women. It began with an argument in the affirmative, in the form of an excerpt in the magazine´s September issue from "The End of Men: And the Rise of Women" by the feminist author Hanna Rosin. "The hookup culture," Rosin writes, is "bound up with everything that´s fabulous about being a young woman in 2012--the freedom, the confidence, the knowledge that you can always depend on yourself."

Murfreesboro, TN - Two shoplifting suspects were so upset with how they were treated in one store, they called another location to complain. The store manager did a little investigative work of his own and was able to identify the criminals using social media. Whether they window shop or shovel out tons of cash, shoppers expect to be treated right and with good customer service. For two shoplifters in Murfreesboro, they expected that too when they called to complain after getting the sticky fingers and getting caught. GAZA CITY — A week of bombardment by Israel has pulverized government buildings and militant weapons stores, and left 161 Palestinians dead. But the Gaza Strip’s Hamas leadership has emerged stronger than ever, Palestinians in Gaza said Thursday. Hamas, along with the masked fighters of other Gaza militant groups, held boisterous victory rallies across the Gaza Strip on Thursday, the day after an Egypt-brokered cease-fire with Israel took effect. Amid parades of flags and political bombast, each of the strip’s militant factions hailed what they called a triumph for the Palestinian resistance and a

Why was there an Israel-Gaza war in the first place? Resistance to the occupation, say Hamas and many in the international media. What occupation? Seven years ago, in front of the world, Israel pulled out of Gaza. It dismantled every settlement, withdrew every soldier, evacuated every Jew, leaving nothing and no one behind. Except for the greenhouses in which the settlers had grown fruit and flowers for export. These were left intact to help Gaza’s economy — only to be trashed when the Palestinians took over. Israel then declared its border with Gaza to be an international

Yet again, President Obama’s Thanksgiving message eschewed any direct reference to thanking God, making this the fourth straight year in which the President of the United States has ignored the central message of the holiday in favor of political grandstanding. This year, Obama’s central message was that now that he’s been re-elected, Americans should agree with all of his policies. His unity routine sounds strangely empty after a campaign in which he focused on dividing Americans: But most of all, it’s a time to give thanks for each other, and for the incredible bounty we enjoy.

KANDAHAR CITY, Afghanistan — Few of the soldiers here thought much about making history as they gathered for the first-ever Thanksgiving Day feast at the Kandahar governor’s provincial compound. Some 35 GIs and as many Afghans filed into the great dining hall as a mullah’s voice cracked over a nearby loudspeaker, calling the faithful to prayer at the Shrine of the Cloak. Believed to house a piece of the cloak of the Prophet Muhammad, the mosque is the holiest place in Afghanistan for Muslims. The governor’s residence, built in the shadow of the shrine, was the home

President Obama´s campaign feared no potential Republican challenger more than Jon Huntsman, the former Utah governor who dropped out of the race in late January, according to a top campaign official. Obama campaign manager Jim Messina revealed this week that Huntsman, who stepped down as Obama´s ambassador to China in April of 2011 in order to run for the Republican nomination, would have been the most ´difficult´ candidate for Obama to beat. ´I think we were honest about our concerns about Huntsman,´ Messina told Politico.

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. — The remains of a roller coaster that was knocked off a New Jersey amusement pier by Superstorm Sandy and left partly underwater in the Atlantic Ocean might be left there as a tourist attraction. Seaside Heights Mayor Bill Akers tells WNBC-TV in New York that officials have not made a decision on whether to tear down the coaster. But the mayor says he´s working with the Coast Guard to see if the coaster is stable enough to be left alone because he believes it would make "a great tourist attraction."

In an inspiring example of Union Fail, the planned union walkout on Walmart during Black Friday led off with a one-employee walkout at a Walmart in St. Cloud, Florida on Wednesday. The walkout was led by – and entirely constituted by – Vanessa Ferreira, 59. She told her manager that she was going on strike. The other workers watched her leave, shrugged, and went back about their business. The police then warned Ferreira for trespass. Ferreira has worked for Walmart for eight years in the cakes department, where she decorates cakes. But she says that her wages are too low

The Republican party gets a lot of flak every time its members make a comment that flies in the face of sound science, especially where the Bible is concerned. Marco Rubio caught some criticism this week after hedging on the big creation question in a GQ interview, where Rubio appeared to be walking a thin line between reassuring rational Republicans and pandering to the party’s religious base. But yesterday, Slate writer Daniel Engber highlighted a similar answer Barack Obama gave when he was running for president in 2008. Obama made the following comments about the Biblical story of

Chicago - The jockeying to replace Jesse Jackson Jr. began before the ink was dry on the former congressman’s resignation letter. (Snip) But as the field of would-be successors grows to a dozen or more names — one of whom may be another member of the Jackson family — party leaders and political analysts say a stampede of candidates could pose risks for the Democratic stronghold. Spread the field of candidates too thin, they say, and it becomes easier for a more conservative candidate — or anyone else party leaders don’t want — to pull off a win. The possibility so worried Democratic Congressman

NASA has reportedly uncovered a significant finding on Mars, leading to speculation the U.S. space agency may hold evidence of past life on the Red Planet. “This data is gonna be one for the history books. It’s looking really good,” geologist John Grotzinger of the California Institute of Technology, who said that NASA’s Curiosity rover has uncovered exciting new results from a sample of Martian soil recently scooped up and placed in the Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) instrument. It remains unclear exactly what NASA has discovered on the planet. The space agency is reportedly conducting various tests to

London - Roche has offered an olive branch to scientific critics in a bid to end a bitter fight over blockbuster flu drug Tamiflu that has led to calls for a boycott of the Swiss drugmaker´s products. Tamiflu has been approved by regulators worldwide and stockpiled by many governments in case of a global outbreak - but some researchers claim there is little evidence it works and have lobbied since 2009 for Roche to hand over all its data from clinical trials. Sales of the drug hit close to $3 billion in 2009, due to the H1N1 swine flu pandemic, although they have since declined.

Pope Benedict XVI has revealed in the third installment of his trilogy, dedicated to the life of Christ, that Jesus may have been born earlier than previously thought. The calendar we use today, which commences with the birth of Christ and was created by a Dionysius Exiguus, a sixth century monk, may be mistaken. According to the Telegraph, the Pope explains in his book that Exiguus, who is considered the inventor of the Christian calendar, “made a mistake in his calculations by several years. The actual date of Jesus’ birth was several years before.” The suggestion that Jesus wasn’t actually born
