Nearly 100 House Republicans on Monday called on President Obama not to nominate Susan Rice as secretary of State. In a letter to Obama, the 97 Republicans said the credibility of the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations has been gravely wounded by her account of the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. “Though Ambassador Rice has been our representative to the U.N., we believe her misleading statements over the days and weeks following the attack on our embassy in Libya that led to the deaths of Ambassador [Christopher] Stevens and three other Americans caused irreparable

Of all the points of disagreement between Israel and Hamas, maybe the most profound is this one: Israel cares more about sparing innocent lives -- including those of Palestinians -- than does Hamas. Not only have Hamas and other militant groups this year sent more than 700 rockets crashing haphazardly into southern Israel, but Hamas instigated yet another war where the chief loser will certainly be its own people. If hell has a beach, it´s located in Gaza. The Gaza Strip is a congested, fetid place. It is densely populated (Snip) For Hamas, civilian casualties are an asset.

No Supreme Court Justice has ever said "Live from New York, it´s Saturday night," at least on national television, but give it time. This month Glamour magazine named Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg one of its "Women of the Year." And Justice Sonia Sotomayor recently told a muppet on "Sesame Street" that "Pretending to be a princess is fun, but it is definitely not a career," which is true, unless you were born to the House of Windsor. But none of his colleagues can compete with the media acclaim cascading over Chief Justice John Roberts after his

You may have heard about bribes offered to kids in order to increase attendance, but what about bribing parents? Chicago schools are doing just that. Parents will be given a $25 dollar gift card to Walgreens if they pick up their child’s report card and attend parent-teacher conferences. Fox and Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade wondered, “Is it the fact that they’re not flexible enough where the parents are working two jobs and can’t get there on time? Or do they believe that parents […] have that little interest in their children that they need a bribe to go?”

According to MSNBC’s Richard Wolffe, who was recently named the vice president and executive editor of MSNBC’s revamped website, U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice and Attorney General Eric Holder have faced criticism recently because they’re black. On Monday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Hardball,” Wolffe made the surprising claim when host Chris Matthews asked who would replace Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “I think it’s Susan Rice,” Wolffe said. “There is the question about John Kerry. But I think now that John McCain has sunk his teeth in, he’s made it about presidential authority.

Left-wing billionaire George Soros’ MoveOn.org has jumped into the fight for a unionized Wal-Mart workforce. MoveOn.org has sent emails to subscribers nationwide, urging them to descend on Wal-Mart stores on Black Friday. The organization is encouraging people to strike against management even if they aren’t Wal-Mart employees. “Instead of listening to and learning from its workers, Wal-Mart has sought to silence us and retaliate against those who dare to speak up,” MoveOn.org said in its email to supporters. “Warehouse workers who work for Wal-Mart contractors have also experienced retaliation for speaking out.

President Obama had his best run of media coverage during the final week of the campaign, while positive coverage of Mitt Romney dwindled, according to a study released Monday from the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism. Between Oct. 29 and Nov. 5, 29 percent of stories about Obama were positive, compared to 19 negative, while only 16 percent of Romney’s stories were positive, compared to 33 negative. It was Obama’s best week of media coverage since the Democratic National Convention, and only the second time in the cycle positive stories outnumbered negative ones for the president.

Attorney General Eric Holder will honor President Obama’s request to stay into the second term and but will remain on the job only “for about a year,” Fox News confirmed Monday. A senior administration official told Fox News that Obama does not want a mass exodus at the start of his second term, especially with his national security team going through major changes. And Secretary of State Hillary Clinton already has said she will leave soon. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier that Holder has accepted the president´s request to stay temporarily. Radio host Mark Levin disagreed Monday with Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol on tax hikes, and said that he is aiding “Obama’s attack on capitalism and successful people.” As a panelist on “Fox News Sunday,” Kristol has argued that the Republican Party should be willing to raise taxes and that the tea party wouldn’t care if “a few millionaires pay a couple percent more in taxes.” But Levin — a prominent figure within the tea party movement — ripped Kristol’s analysis. “Among the others who I think it’s time just to go someplace and talk among yourselves

The report estimates that carbon dioxide accounts for 85% of the "radiative forcing" that leads to global temperature rises. Other potent greenhouse gases such as methane also reached record highs. The carbon dioxide levels appear to have been rising at a level of two parts per million each year for the last 10 years - with the latest measure

A professor from the City University of New York warned last week that white people may launch a “race war” against Latinos as a result of President Barack Obama’s re-election. Linda Martín Alcoff, a philosophy professor, made the remark during a guest lecture at Columbia University. She was invited to speak by the Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity at Columbia. Demographic factors are causing white people to lose their political power to the rising Latino population, Alcoff argued. “No other group can realistically pose a threat of ballooning numbers like we can,”

Sean Hannity‘s panel on Monday night took on those who criticized Sen. John McCain‘s vowing to block a potential nomination of Ambassador Susan Rice for Secretary of State. Pointing to those who charged McCain with sexism and racism, the panelists questioned the role of such “fear” tactics. Hannity began by pointing to comments from some members of the congressional black caucus, including its chair Rep. Martha Fudge, who said there’s a “clear” sexism and racism in McCain’s unrelenting criticism of Rice. Deneen Borelli argued that the assertions of

The letter, signed by 97 House Republicans, says Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, "is widely viewed as having either willfully or incompetently misled the American public in the Benghazi matter" — language Clyburn saw as racially loaded. “What the president’s campaign did was focus on certain members of his base coalition, give them extraordinary financial gifts from the government and then work very aggressively to turn them out to vote, and that strategy worked.” Thus did political analyst Mitt Romney identify the cause of his defeat in a call to disconsolate contributors. Republicans piled on. “Completely unhelpful,” Gov. Bobby Jindal told Wolf Blitzer. We don’t advance the “debate by insulting folks.” “A terrible thing to say,” Chris Christie told Joe Scarborough. “You can’t expect to be the leader of all the people and be divisive.”

The disintegration of an economy and a society can take two courses. One course is like rust. It is slow and barely perceptible. The other is a sudden collapse. The first course, if left untended, eventually turns into the second. The US economy is now rusting away. Arguably it has been for decades. For anyone interested in looking, the signs are there. They will soon become unavoidable for even the most disinterested of our citizens. (snip)Here is a partial list of the business reactions to the outcome of the election

Local lawmakers are fuming over an Obama administration policy promoting welfare and EBT benefits for immigrants, with a “welcome” package and promotional website that encourage new arrivals to take advantage of the nation’s generous government largesse. “I think it’s a complete outrage that we’re encouraging people coming here to get on public assistance,” said state Rep. Shaunna O’Connell, a Taunton Republican who has fought for EBT reform. “We should be encouraging people to be self-sufficient. These programs are rampant with fraud and abuse.”

CHICAGO—For most drinkers, the first taste of Jeppson´s Malört tends to be the last. "I´ve heard everything, from it tastes like earwax to Band-Aids to burnt hair," said Ian Penrose, a bartender at Rocking Horse in the city´s hip Logan Square neighborhood. Taste isn´t the only problem for the 80-year-old, gold-colored spirit made from a Swedish recipe. Jeppson´s Malört can´t be found outside of Chicago and a few suburbs. By the company´s own admission, its Malört is enjoyed by only one out of every 49 drinkers who try it. Even the company´s owner, Pat Gabelick, a 69-year-old retired secretary

“Peace will come to the Middle East when the Arabs love their children more than they hate us,” then Foreign Minister Golda Meir said in 1957, during an address to the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Meir, one of the signatories of Israel’s Declaration of Independence in 1948, made her pronouncement long before the Six-Day War, when Israel was nearly annihilated by a host of Arab armies, emerging victorious by the skin of its teeth and the grace of God. This was the war that resulted in the unification of Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty,
