It is only two weeks since his re-election, and his second term remains two months away, but Barack Obama is already blundering again on the world stage, with the kind of gaffes that would have been plastered on the front page of The New York Times if they had been committed by George W. Bush when he was in the White House. Obama´s first term was littered with foreign policy gaffes, and there is every chance the second term will be more of the same. On his trip to Asia this week, President Obama struggled to pronounce the name of

Kinshasa - The Democratic Republic of Congo government on Monday dismissed a demand from rebels in the country´s east for truce talks, saying that the insurgent force pushing towards the city of Goma was merely a tool of neighboring Rwanda. (Snip) A government spokesman said it was not interested in rebel proposals or ultimatums. "M23 is defined by the government as a fiction created by Rwanda to hide their criminal activities against the DRC," spokesman Lambert Mende said. He feels their pain. Former president Bill Clinton visited the Rockaways this weekend, and got a first-hand look at Hurricane Sandy devastation that rocked the normally tranquil Queens neighborhood. Clinton Global Initiative volunteers and the 42nd president hit the streets for their Day of Action efforts to pick up the pieces left behind by Sandy. "We were glad to make a small but meaningful difference in the community and were moved by the perseverance and kindness of those living through such hardship in the storm´s wake," Clinton wrote on his Facebook page late last night.

(Snip)"I´m not a scientist, man. I can tell you what recorded history says, I can tell you what the Bible says, but I think that´s a dispute amongst theologians and I think it has nothing to do with the gross domestic product or economic growth of the United States," Rubio told GQ

Havana - Colombia´s FARC rebels said on Monday they would call a two-month unilateral ceasefire, the first truce in more than a decade, as peace negotiators met in Cuba in the latest attempt to end the five-decade war. President Juan Manuel Santos´ government, however, has so far rejected any stoppage of military operations until a final peace deal was signed with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, and even vowed to step up the offensive. The FARC said it would halt all offensive military operations and acts of sabotage against infrastructure beginning at midnight on Monday

A mysterious company associated with Project ORCA, the failed election reporting tool meant to aide the Romney campaign’s Election Day “get out the vote” efforts, disappeared from the Internet shortly after November 6th. An October 25 ORCA training email from former Romney campaign director of voter contact Dan Centinello, obtained by The Daily Caller from an ORCA volunteer, contained a link that sent volunteers to TheCheckmateCompany.com to view a training video on the system. That link is now dead, and the website disappeared from the Internet as early as November 9,

Nairobi - Kenyan police fired tear gas to disperse rioters who attacked ethnic Somalis in the Nairobi district known as "Little Mogadishu" on Monday, hurling rocks and smashing windows after a weekend bomb attack there killed nine people. The violence coincided with the start of voter registration for a general election in March, adding to security concerns ahead of the first national polls since 2007 when a dispute over the results fuelled ethnic slaughter that killed more than 1,200 people and forced some 300,000 from their homes. After a week of hearings on Capitol Hill about the attacks in Benghazi, Libya, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., continued his criticism of U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice for blaming the attacks on the U.S. Consulate on a spontaneous demonstration. He said reaffirmed his opposition to her possible nomination to Secretary of State. "[S]he has a lot of explaining to do, and I´m curious why she has not repudiated those remarks," McCain said on "Face the Nation." On the same program, Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., however, said ongoing Republican finger-pointing at Rice is misguided and political.

Jake Tapper´s "The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor" more than lives up to its title. It´s a remarkably compelling, heartbreaking, and inspiring tale about a little known battle in the Afghan War that cost the lives of eight brave Americans during a brutal sneak attack that found us outnumbered 53 to 400. Other than themes exploring American sacrifice and heroism, the most important element in "The Outpost" is the context. Too often the stories reported about our military are told through a soda straw context that´s mean to further an agenda while

The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) is investigating a possible theft from an Alamo office, where some believe an original copy of the Texas Declaration of Independence was swapped with a fake. Here´s the catch — leaders at the historic site never knew this original copy of the document ever existed. PHNOM PENH, Cambodia- President Barack Obama arrived in Cambodia on Monday having just won four more years in office, but that is nothing compared to his host, Hun Sen. The 60-year-old Cambodian prime minister has held power since Ronald Reagan was in the White House, and says he´s not stepping down until he is 90. Hun Sen is known as one of Asia´s most Machiavellian politicians, with a knack for making sure his rivals end up in jail or in exile. A laudatory biography is subtitled "Strongman of Cambodia," and some would say that´s putting it mildly.

Groups backing an extension of unemployment benefits have launched a new round of lobbying to convince Congress to extend federal benefits to the long-term jobless. A coalition of advocates including the National Employment Law Project (NELP) held more than 40 meetings with lawmakers on Capitol Hill during the first week of the lame-duck session to make their pitch for a $30 billion extension of the program. The assorted labor union, civil rights and anti-poverty groups face a tough path to winning the extension at a time when lawmakers are looking for ways to reduce the budget deficit.

Hostess set a 5 p.m. Nov. 15 deadline for workers involved in a union-organized strike to return to work. The company warned that if the ongoing labor strike continued it would force the company into liquidation, and it wasn’t bluffing — having announced plans to liquidate and lay off 18,000 employees. But now those that are out of work, including nearly 200 in Jacksonville, are hoping that someone will buy the

It´s rare that we take on liberal newspaper columnists. They´re entitled to their opinions and no one expects them to adhere to a standard of objectivity. But on those occasions when a columnist transgresses the bounds of decency, we have to take note. The Miami Herald´s Leonard Pitts Jr. is one such opinion writer. Naturally, because this is Hollywood, we all knew where this was going from the start, and now it´s confirmed that Ms. Reagan´s going to be portrayed as "mean": "I thought the part was too mean," Fonda told NBC 4 anchor Robert Kovacik in a Q&A at the Millennium Biltmore hotel,

N.J. Gov. Chris Christie is having his John McCain moment in the media. It´s hard to forget how eagerly the press and entertainment outlets like "Saturday Night Live" cozied up to Sen. McCain not too long ago. He was a maverick, a war hero who repeatedly butted heads with the GOP establishment. For that, the Arizona Senator received favorable coverage, an invitation to appear on "SNL" and generally more positive press than most of this peers. Then McCain dared to make a run for the White House. And the media love fest screeched to a halt.

In our memories, however, the iconic snack will forever be identified with the 1950s, when Hostess popularized the brand by sponsoring “The Howdy Doody Show.” And the demise of Hostess has unleashed a wave of baby boomer nostalgia for a seemingly more innocent time. Needless to say, it wasn’t really innocent. ... in the 1950s incomes in the top bracket faced a marginal tax rate of 91, that’s right, 91 percent, while taxes on corporate profits were twice as large, relative to national income, as in recent years. At the start of a three-nation tour of southeast Asia, President Obama joked Sunday with a Buddhist monk in Thailand that he could use some prayer to help reach a budget deal with Republican lawmakers to avert a fiscal crisis back in the U.S. "We´re working on this budget, we´re going to need a lot of prayer for that," Mr. Obama told a monk while touring the Wat Pho Royal Monastery. Later, at a joint press conference with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, the president tried to explain his quip. "I always believe in prayer," Mr. Obama said.

The Church of Scientology spent at least $30million to have a criminal investigation into the death of one of its members in Florida dropped by local authorities, a former church leader alleges in a new lawsuit. Marty Rathbun claims the church used its influence to sway judges and the medical examiner in Clearwater, Florida, to stop investigating the 1995 case of Lisa McPherson. Her family claims church leaders watched her die after they took her to a hotel room following a minor car crash. Scientology leaders have not commented on the allegations.
