With CIA director David Petraeus and International Security Assistance Forces General John Allen enmeshed in sex scandals, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is conducting an ethics review of the nation’s top military leaders to promote “a culture of stewardship” among generals. “This week, the Secretary directed General Dempsey to work with the other members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to review how to better foster a culture of stewardship among our most senior military officers,” Pentagon Press Secretary George Little said in a statement. “Their initial findings are due to the Secretary within the next few weeks.

The Justice Department´s muddled probe of the Benghazi, Libya embassy attack, now caught up in the FBI´s investigation of the CIA sex scandal, was compared Wednesday to Richard Nixon´s Watergate cover up by a lawmaker seeking a select House committee to look into the issues. "There are serious questions surrounding the Justice Department´s integrity, similar to those raised during the second term of the Nixon administration," said Virginia Rep. Frank Wolf in a letter to Speaker John Boehner seeking a select committee to investigate the issues. Wolf said Justice and the administration

Most of Sen John McCain’s opposition to the idea of Susan Rice as Secretary of State comes from her defense of the Obama administration’s response to the attacks in Benghazi. But Rice has criticized McCain repeatedly, especially while serving as Obama’s senior foreign-policy adviser for his 2008 campaign. Rice, a Clinton administration veteran, became Obama’s senior foreign-policy adviser, after she chose him over Hillary Clinton early in the presidential race. That put Rice squarely in opposition of McCain, each time the war veteran tried to challenge

On Tuesday, Grover Norquist walked back his comments about a possible carbon tax swap (which would reduce income taxes while taxing carbon emissions), one day after the staunch anti-tax advocate suggested it would not violate his famed Taxpayer Protection Pledge. Norquist now says there "is no conceivable way to add an energy or VAT tax to the burdens American taxpayers face that would not violate the pledge over time." He added, "it would be [a] foolish and economically destructive thing to do." "The creation of any new tax such as a VAT

Health exchange law gives

A complicated and costly provision in President Obama´s health care reforms has area jurisdictions at odds on how best to move forward as a critical deadline looms. States have until Friday to declare whether they plan to operate a state-run health insurance exchange -- an open market for uninsured residents to purchase coverage -- or let the federal government run one for them. Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell sent a letter Wednesday to Obama asking for an extension and criticized his administration´s timetable for complying with the law since it passed in March 2010.

Saying, “I didn’t get reelected to bask in reelection. I got elected to do work,” President Obama on Wednesday set out his stall for the first months of his second term. But he gave no clear hint about whether he would tack to the left or to the center now that he has run his last election campaign. On several big issues, including the fiscal cliff, immigration reform and climate change, the president’s comments at his first press conference since winning a second term in the Oval Office contained enough to

Actor Daniel Day-Lewis plays the 16th president in the historical film, which chronicles Lincoln’s final months in office. Obama has long voiced his admiration for Lincoln, taking the oath of office at his 2008 inauguration using the same Bible

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Thursday called President Obama’s proposal for $1.6 trillion in new tax revenue a "joke." On the Senate floor, McConnell demanded presidential leadership in discussions on how to avoid the “fiscal cliff” of tax increases and spending cuts that will be reached in January. “The only way we succeed is if the president steps up and leads,” McConnell said. “And an opening bid of $1.6 trillion in tax hikes just isn’t serious. … It’s a joke." (Snip) McConnell said Republicans will only negotiate a fiscal deal if Democrats make major spending cuts and

Sen. John McCain launched a fierce counterattack on Barack Obama yesterday after Obama arrogantly called McCain’s criticism of U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice “outrageous” and said critics of Rice should “go after me.” McCain, speaking on the Senate floor, went straight for the jugular: “This president — this administration — has either been guilty of colossal incompetence or been engaged in a coverup, neither of which is acceptable to the American people. I speak as a friend of Christopher Stevens, I speak as a person who knows something about warfare, I speak as something of an authority —

On Wednesday, November 14, President Obama held his first full-scale press conference and, despite continuing to speak in generalities, Reuters was impressed by the revelation of his second-term agenda. The President was "feisty" yet "conciliatory," Reuters claimed. Reuters led its piece with Obama´s gave a "feisty defense" of U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice. It was Rice who was one of the loudest, early voices claiming that the attacks in Benghazi that killed four Americans was the result of some unknown Youtube video -- a claim solidly proven false soon after the attacks occurred.

Politicians -- and, come to think of it, criminals under interrogation -- are famous for answering the questions they want to answer, which are often not the questions asked. And they frequently attempt to bury a query with words that sound good, but end up revealing very little. Not to mention, consume valuable time, precluding additional questions. Barack Obama has long been reputed as the Real Good Talker, a fellow who says things that sound fine, even at times eloquent to his carefully-picked, eager audiences.

Just in case the unaffordable price tag and rising costs don´t quite do the trick, America´s spiraling dearth of doctors will contribute heavily to the collapse of our re-engineered health care system, according to a new study: The United States will require at least 52,000 more family doctors in the year 2025 to keep up with the growing and increasingly older U.S. population, a new study found. The predictions also reflect the passage of the Affordable Care Act -- a change that will expand health insurance coverage to an additional 38 million Americans.
