Charlotte, NC - Federal agents are inside the home of the Charlotte author at the center of a scandal involving CIA Director David Petraeus, who resigned Friday. The Federal Bureau of Investigations confirms that it has agents inside Paula Broadwell´s Dilworth home. While agents on scene would not confirm what they were looking for, nearly a dozen agents were seen carrying boxes and taking photographs inside the home. Broadwell, the biographer who wrote a book about retired four-star general Petraeus, 60, has not been seen at her home since the news connecting her to an extramarital affair

Petraeus Scandal: An affair that was known to the FBI for months and kept from congressional oversight committees might explain his complicity in a false narrative of the Benghazi terrorist attack and the order to "stand down." The addition of sex to Benghazigate adds a dimension sure to keep the scandal going and one that does indeed make Watergate seem like a third-rate burglary. The affair admitted to by Gen. David Petraeus, now our former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, might have attached blackmail or the potential for blackmail to a scandal

President Obama is considering asking Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) to serve as his next defense secretary, part of an extensive rearrangement of his national security team that will include a permanent replacement for former CIA director David H. Petraeus. Although Kerry is thought to covet the job of secretary of state, senior administration officials familiar with the transition planning said that nomination will almost certainly go to Susan E. Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. John O. Brennan, Obama’s chief counterterrorism adviser, is a leading contender for the CIA job if he wants it,

NASCAR pledged it wouldn´t render immediate judgment on Jeff Gordon for his role in wrecking Clint Bowyer and upending the end of Sunday´s Phoenix race. But officials didn´t wait much longer, handing down a decision on Monday evening: a fine of $100,000 and a 25-point penalty. It was not a surprising penalty, but it will certainly disappoint those who believed Gordon deserved suspension for his actions. Gordon not only ignored a black flag, he altered the championship battle by taking out one of the final contenders. However, unlike Kyle Busch, suspended last year for a similar incident

WASHINGTON—A federal agent who launched the investigation that ultimately led to the resignation of Central Intelligence Agency chief David Petraeus was barred from taking part in the case over the summer due to superiors´ concerns that he had become personally involved in the case, according to officials familiar with the probe. New details about how the Federal Bureau of Investigation handled the case suggest that even as the bureau delved into Mr. Petraeus´s personal life, the agency had to address questionable conduct by one of its own—including allegedly sending shirtless photos of

In a round of year-end belt tightening, NBCUniversal is cutting about 500 employees, or about 1.5% of its total workforce. The cuts are distributed throughout the media company, which boasts nearly 30,000 employees, according to a person close to the situation who asked not to be identified discussing the sensitive topic. Some of the layoffs have already occurred. Two months ago, "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" eliminated about two dozen of its crew in an effort to reduce the late-night program´s budget. A large percentage of the cuts came from the tiny G4 cable channel,

A Shell station in the tourist area near Lake Buena Vista was selling gasoline for $6.44 a gallon Monday — more than $3 above what most motorists are paying. A clerk at the station at 8788 Vineland Ave. declined to comment. The manager could not be reached. But a Windermere man who drove by the station was astounded by the price. "It is horrible what they are doing," said Dave Vanz, a 36-year-old sales and marketing professional.Orange County zoning manager Mitch Gordon said the station is not breaking any laws because the price

Nothing says class and glamour quite like comparing voting for the first time to losing your virginity. And nothing says grace and style like winning a national award for doing so. Now, the epitome of class, glamour, grace and style – Lena Dunham, who cut the infamous Obama campaign commercial suggesting that sleeping with Obama and voting for him were one and the same – has won Glamour’s “Woman of the Year Award.” In fact, Glamour labels her The Voice of a Generation. To which the American people reply: we’ll sell our bonds. Other winners include

Unnamed sources tell Fox News that the CIA Annex in Benghazi held three Libyan militia members for days and that retrieving these detainees may have been a motive for the September 11th attack on the nearby US consulate. The new reporting builds on details previously published by Fox´s Jennifer Griffin and information apparently leaked by ex-intelligence officer Paula Broadwell last month. Speaking on Fox News Monday, Griffin indicated new sources suggest the CIA annex may have been a detention site for local militia forces and even for some prisoners from other parts of Africa.

House Democrats are beginning their push for an extension of expanded federal unemployment benefits before more than 2.1 million workers lose them at year´s end. Ways and Means panel ranking member Sandy Levin (D-Mich.) and Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) released a committee report on Monday arguing for quick action to extend benefits before they expire Dec. 29. “We cannot forget the human cliff looming for more than two million Americans scheduled to lose their economic lifeline during the upcoming holidays," Levin said. Less than a week after President Obama´s reelection, an online petition calling for Texas to secede from the Union has gained enough signatures to prompt a response from the White House. The petition is posted on "We the People," the White House´s website for petitions. The White House has pledged to provide a formal response to all petitions that receive more than 25,000 signatures within 30 days. The Texas secession petition was posted on Nov. 9 and already has more than 27,000 signatures. People have posted similar petitions for dozens of other states to secede, but the Texas petition

Schweich says the audit will focus on Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and the Electronic Benefit Transfer process, which is used to access food stamps. The audit has been added to the 2013 schedule for Schweich’s office. Schweich pointed to recent reports of benefits being accessed from casinos, gentlemen’s clubs and locations around the world. He says the assistance programs are not intended to finance recipients’ entertainment

Although America carried President Obama confidently into a second term last Tuesday - not everyone is jumping for joy at the prospect of four more years. Tens of thousands have put their names to secession petitions in 20 states, asking that they peacefully become independent from the rest of the country. The documents have been lodged on a government website We The People - and Texas has almost enough people behind its petition to warrant an official White House response. Along with the Lone Star state, petitions were filed from Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky,

It is official. The US will overtake Saudi Arabia to become the world´s top oil producer by 2017. The International Energy Agency (IEA) said in its world outlook for 2012 this morning that the US will be a net exporter of gas by 2020, with all the vast implications of abundant cheap gas for its chemical, plastics, glass, and steel industries. "The United States, which currently imports around 20 per cent of its total energy needs, becomes all but self-sufficient in net terms – a dramatic reversal of the trend seen in most other energy importing countries," it said.

As they say in politics, timing is everything, and the shock resignation of David Petraeus as CIA director raises serious questions about whether this was genuinely a resignation caused by his affair with his biographer, or whether it was a hatchet job by Barack Obama´s administration to prevent him giving evidence this Thursday to the Senate Intelligence Committee. There is no doubt that General Petraeus made a monumental error of judgement by embarking on an affair with Paula Broadwell, the author of the recent hagiography of America´s most celebrated soldier of modern times, All In:

Washington - Your emails are not nearly as private as you think. The downfall of CIA Director David Petraeus demonstrates how easy it is for federal law enforcement agents to examine emails and computer records if they believe a crime was committed. With subpoenas and warrants, the FBI and other investigating agencies routinely gain access to electronic inboxes and information about email accounts offered by Google, Yahoo and other Internet providers. "The government can´t just wander through your emails just because they´d like to know what you´re thinking or doing," said Stewart Baker,

The 2012 election has made one thing perfectly clear. Americans who strongly identify themselves as individuals, who do not believe that it is better to, as Obama once put it, “spread the wealth around” through enforced government redistribution, and who believe our spending is out of control, are going to have to take matters into their own hands. It is no longer enough to plan for your future, to merely work towards your personal hopes and dreams. You must now start actively defending those hopes and dreams from 61,170,405 irresponsible people who think economic decline is a winning

When historians look back on Mitt Romney’s bid for the Presidency, one trend will be clear: no Republican candidate ever ran a similar campaign again. For four decades, from Richard Nixon to Ronald Reagan through the two Bush Presidencies, the Republican Party won the White House by amassing large margins among white voters. Nixon summoned the silent majority. Reagan cemented this bloc of voters, many of whom were former Democrats. Both Bushes won the Presidency by relying on broad support from Reagan Democrats. In that time, Republicans transformed the South from solidly Democratic to solidly Republican,

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo plans to ask the federal government for at least $30 billion in disaster aid to help New York City and other affected areas of the state recover from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, according to top administration officials. In making the case for federal aid, the governor’s advisers provided a staggering inventory of need as the city and state continued to rebuild in the storm’s deadly wake: $3.5 billion to repair the region’s bridges, tunnels and subway and commuter rail lines; $1.65 billion to rebuild homes and apartment buildings; $1 billion to reimburse local governments

Soul-searching is not in the GOP’s blood. Many Republicans see themselves as stoic, rugged and hardworking individuals. But after twice losing the White House to an ex-community organizer and failing to mobilize the base, Republicans need to take a trip to a mountainous valley, sip some tea and meditate. In the quiet of nature, I think Republicans would find that the solutions to winning lie within themselves. #1 Keep an open mind - Early on, talking heads like Ann Coulter disparaged Romney and endorsed other candidates. In February of 2011, Coulter said: "If we don't run Chris Christie,

President Obama will give the proposed Keystone XL oil sands pipeline a green light, Moody’s predicts in a new report. The fate of TransCanada Corp.’s proposed Alberta-to-Texas pipeline is shaping up as a major post-election battle. Environmentalists oppose Keystone and will stage a Nov. 18 demonstration at the White House, while a number business groups and unions want the State Department to permit the project. “We believe the White House will reverse course and approve the Keystone XL pipeline, which would ship crude from Canada’s western oil sands to the Gulf Coast,”

IRVING, Texas — Hostess Brands Inc. is permanently closing three bakeries following a nationwide strike by its bakers union. The Texas-based maker of Twinkies and Ding Dongs says the strike has prevented it from producing and delivering products. Hostess warned earlier this month that the strike, by about 30 percent of its workforce, could lead to bakery closures. It said Monday that it will close bakeries in Seattle, St. Louis and Cincinnati that collectively employ 627 workers. The company has about 18,300 employees. Obamacare’s coming. Love it or hate it, President Barack Obama’s re-election Tuesday cleared the last major hurdle toward implementing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Businesses are being forced to take a fast and hard look at how to handle the shift in health-care benefits and potential costs that are part of the law that goes fully into effect in 14 months. “This is here to stay,” said J.D. Piro, a senior vice president at Aon Hewitt who leads the company’s health law consulting group.

The man who voices Sesame Street´s popular character Elmo is denying he had gay sex with a minor, as Sesame Street honchos try to assure fans that the high-pitched puppet is "bigger than one man." (Snip) Clash admitted to TMZ he and the individual had sex, but only after he was above the age of consent. "I had a relationship with [the accuser]," Clash said. "It was between two consenting adults and I am deeply saddened that he is trying to make it into something it was not." The popular children´s show acknowledged the relationship and their involvement

Hiding an object from view isn´t just a trick for science fiction storytellers — researchers are getting closer to being able to hide a solid object from sight, new research suggests. Study researcher David Smith, from Duke University, and his graduate student, Nathan Landy, have created a structure that can guide electromagnetic waves around an object and have them converge on the other side. To an outside observer, these waves look like they passed right through the object.

The U.S. is set to increase oil production so much that it will overtake Saudi Arabia and become the world’s biggest producer by around 2017, the International Energy Agency said today. The reaction from “peak oil” theorists? Not a chance. They continue to argue that the surge in U.S. production coming from shale oil and shale gas is a flash in the pan. Before long, they say, U.S. output will start falling again—as will global output. The price of oil will skyrocket and the industrial economy will be brought to its knees, they argue.
