The world needs a global capital and it should be the capital of Islamic Turkey, Istanbul, according to a UN special representative. Richard Falk, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Palestinian human rights, wrote a Nov. 1, 2012, opinion piece for the controversial al Jazeera English site calling for a "global capital" because of integration "by markets, by globally constituted battlefields, by changing geopolitical patterns." (Snip) Falk recommended what al Jazeera called a "modest proposal" that should move the world past "the persisting tendency is to view the hierarchy of global cities from a West-centric perspective: London, New York, Paris,

President Barack Obama is poised on the precipice of defeat. 2008’s Obama idolatry has evolved into 2012’s Obama fatigue. The enthusiasm, bordering on adulation, has withered; the “hope” has diminished; and the “change we need” is now the object of derision. Obama is, at best, a well-intentioned but clueless blunderer who needs 8 years to accomplish what Ronald Reagan did in four; or, at worst, an incompetent. (Snip) In all likelihood, the next president will be a colossal failure, beset by intractable debt and revenue deficiencies. For each party, losing now is winning later. On the eve of the 2012 elections, The Associated Press interviewed dozens of Americans to try to gauge the economic mood of the nation. People were asked about jobs, housing, gas prices, retirement and other issues. Among them were: - Adrienne Cragnotti, 46, and Mike Eiler, 41, of Chicago. She's a self-employed photographer; he's an unemployed former copy editor. Despite career setbacks and a declining living standard, Cragnotti and Eiler remain optimistic. - Hilda Mitrani, 51, of North Miami Beach, Fla. The Great Recession and slow economic recovery have devastated her public relations and marketing business. But Mitrani says positive

New York - Sometimes, an increase in the unemployment rate is good news for the economy. October was one of those months. The rise, to 7.9% from 7.8% in September, was due to more people entering the job market. Many of those who had stopped searching for work were encouraged enough by the economy to start looking once again. In determining the unemployment rate, the Labor Department surveys households to see how many people are in the labor force -- either on the job or looking for work. October's survey showed 578,000 more people than in September. About 170,000 of

West Allis, Wis. Four days before the presidential election, with 10 Wisconsin electoral votes up for grabs, Mitt Romney spent Friday morning at State Fair Park rallying the faithful to make one last Badger blitz to get Republicans to the polls. “We are four days away from a fresh start,” Romney said. “Four days away from the first day of a new beginning. My conviction that better days are ahead is not based on promises and hollow rhetoric but solid plans and proven results.” (Snip) A variety of polls show that Obama and Romney are either in a dead heat

An illegal immigrant from Mexico is challenging the constitutionality of the state’s driver license law in a case the Georgia Supreme Court is set to hear Monday. Fernando Castillo-Solis says the law — which requires motorists who have lived in Georgia for 30 days or more to get a state-issued license before driving — discriminates against illegal immigrants. At issue is a part of the law that says motorists can’t be convicted of driving without a license if they can later present their licenses in court. Since illegal immigrants are ineligible for Georgia licenses, they don’t have the same protection.

Not long ago, the Romney campaign announced it had recruited more than 300 retired military generals for a special advisory board. Now the campaign boasts the endorsement of 150 of the nation’s most revered military heroes. 150 former prisoners of war have now endorsed the Republican challenger, according to a campaign announcement made this week. The list includes well-known figures, such as Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Rep. Sam Johnson (R-Texas) and former Federal Trade Commissioner Orson Swindle, all of whom were held captive in North Vietnam during the Vietnam war. Other names are more obscure.

On a typical work day in San Francisco, at least 27 private employers are picking up workers in shuttle buses — complete with cushioned seats and WiFi — at more than 200 stops across the city. The transit option is a booming private enterprise that reduces traffic congestion and air pollution. Some in the city want to snuff it out, San Francisco-style, with government regulations and fees. San Francisco Supervisor John Avalos wants to eliminate the cushy private shuttles and charge employers to use the Municipal Transit Agency's spartan buses, according to the San Francisco Examiner. According to a new study by the liberal group Third Way, pollster assumptions in the swing states may be very, very wrong. While many pollsters — like CBS/NYT/Quinnipiac and PPP, just to name two — assume that the electorate model for Tuesday will be similar to 2008, the Third Way study on partisan registration in eight states shows something very, very different. In each of these states, Democratic registration has trailed that of independents and Republicans by significant amounts — and in six of the eight states, Democratic registration has declined, sometimes dramatically (Snip) In 6 states—Colorado, Florida, Nevada, New

Today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pledged to stonewall any attempt by Mitt Romney to pass his agenda if elected. “Mitt Romney’s fantasy that Senate Democrats will work with him to pass his ‘severely conservative’ agenda is laughable,” spat Reid. Of course, when Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) suggested two years into President Obama’s presidency (after the stimulus package and Obamacare) that Obama’s failures to lead in bipartisan fashion made his defeat his first political priority, the left went insane; they still cite the line as evidence that

Issa also released a video titled "All the President's Parties" comparing President Obama's promises to cut wasteful federal spending with examples of extravagance drawn from the dinners for foreign dignitaries. Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers are still suffering black-outs, with wide swathes of the city still without electricity. But the media centre for this Sunday's New York Marathon - which is still going ahead despite the widespread devastation landed on the city - will no suffer such problems. For organisers have installed two emergency generators, as well as a back-up, to keep news of the event flowing. The three generators could provide power for 400 homes - and the revelation has prompted outrage in a city which, in parts, has suffered four nights without heat or electricity.

President Obama on Friday blasted Mitt Romney for using “scare” tactics in claiming that U.S. car companies are moving jobs to China, and the Republican challenger warned in another battleground state that reelecting the president would lead to another showdown in Congress next year over the debt ceiling. Obama, speaking in this town about 12 miles northwest of Columbus, accused Romney of frightening Americans with false claims of job losses “just to scare up some votes.”

On a cold, dark Thursday night at 10:00 p.m., a blue and white Con Edison van is parked across the street from the substation on East 13th street, off the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Drive in Manhattan. Two workers in sky blue hard hats get out. They walk over to a manhole and remove the cover. Without a word, one of them grabs a hose from the van and lowers it down. The rest of the hose flops over the ground, extending to the sewer drain at the corner of the street. Steaming hot water slowly streams out.

A new survey released by Pew examined the negative coverage both President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney have received in the mainstream news as well as in social media. While MSNBC and Fox News are often seen as two sides of the same partisan coin, the survey found one network to be notably more negative toward a candidate. Seventy-one percent of MSNBC’s coverage of Romney, from August 27 to October 21 of this year, was negative (with three percent being positive). By contrast, Fox News’ negative coverage of Obama during the same period came in at 46 percent

Angry residents pelted utility crews with eggs as they tried to restore power in Bridgeport, Conn., after the mayor claimed the local power company had "shortchanged" the state's largest city as it tries to recover from superstorm Sandy. United Illuminating workers reported eggs and other objects being thrown at them a day after Mayor Bill Finch said the utility was taking care of wealthy suburbs while his constituents suffered. The unrest caused United Illuminating to pull its workers out until the city agreed to provide police protection.

"Mitt Romney's fantasy that Senate Democrats will work with him to pass his 'severely conservative' agenda is laughable," Mr. Reid said in a statement on Friday, trying to puncture Mr. Romney's closing election argument that he'll be able to deliver on the bipartisanship President Obama promised in 2008 but has struggled to live up to.

The mainstream media is doing all that it can to avoid reporting on the Obama administration’s cover-up of the Benghazi scandal, where President Obama may have abandoned up to 32 Americans to die. Fox News is the only mainstream media outlet to undertake a concerted effort into sorting through the spin coming from the White House, and they’ve uncovered some maddening claims — including the latest bombshell, a classified cable from the consulate in August wherein the Regional Security Officer (RSO) warned they were understaffed and under-gunned: “RSO (Regional Security Officer) expressed concerns with the ability to defend Post

According to the Media Research Center, the last time Benghazi was discussed on one of the flagship network evening news casts was the October 25 edition of CBS Evening News. Since then, ABC News and CBS News have relegated coverage of the Benghazi terrorist attack to their websites.
