Miles-long traffic jams and intersections choked with cyclists greeted commuters trying to get to work in New York as the most populous U.S. city struggled back to its feet amid the devastation of superstorm Sandy. Drivers from New Jersey faced hour-plus delays at bridges to Manhattan today as police checkpoints turned away cars with fewer than three passengers. Lincoln Tunnel approaches backed up past the Turnpike Exit 16 toll booths and beyond the western spur entrance on Route 3. Lines of more than 100 cars and trucks waited at gasoline stations on Route 46 leading to the George Washington Bridge

Donald Trump blasted President Obama for not taking up his offer to release his college records, saying the president’s failure to do so was hard evidence he wasn’t born in the U.S. “For President Obama not to accept $5 million (or much more) for his favorite charity can only mean one thing – the records are very bad," Trump wrote on his Facebook page. “Obviously he wasn’t born in this country, or, if he was, he said he wasn’t in order to receive financial aid and in order to have a clear and very easy path into a

Rep. Edward Markey (Mass.), the top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee, said Tuesday that "super-storm Sandy" is the latest evidence that climate change will continue to lead to "extreme weather" conditions in the United States. "For this super-storm to occur so late in the storm season, reach such fury and have the kinds of flooding impacts that we are seeing is fully consistent with what scientists have told us we should expect due to global warming," Markey said. "It's time to admit the obvious fact that

State troopers have been deployed at all gas stations along the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway, where dwindling gasoline supplies are causing frayed nerves as the region endures its third full day with massive power outages. Frustration with gas supplies topped the list of issues causing tensions to boil over in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, the states hardest hit by power outages in the wake of superstorm Sandy. Residents jockeyed for fuel at the few stations still pumping, searched store shelves in vain for batteries, struggled with sporadic cell phone service and found themselves unable to

You've heard about Mitt Romney's problems with the women's vote, the black vote, the Hispanic vote, the union vote and the young Democrats vote. But there's one major voting group that's fallen off the map since the primaries. The evangelical vote. When Mitt Romney's 2012 candidacy was gaining traction in the primaries, the conventional wisdom instantly conveyed that the evangelical vote, skeptical of Mormonism, would sink him. What if in Ohio next week the opposite is true? There and in other swing states—Wisconsin, Iowa, North Carolina, Florida—the evangelical vote is flying beneath

He said the National Guard, with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, will deliver the meals and bottled water door-to-door to parts of Lower Manhattan, the Rockaways and other affected areas in Brooklyn and Queens starting today. “After days without powers, the most immediate need for many New Yorkers is food and water and the state is working aggressively to address this need.”

Superstorm Sandy inflicted "extensive" damage on the National September 11 Memorial, built at the World Trade Center site in New York to honour those killed in the 2001 attacks, an official said on Wednesday. The memorial's chief executive Joe Daniels said the site had suffered "extensive impacts" due to "serious flooding" at the foundation level of the World Trade Center, where a museum is currently under construction. Flooding also hit the visitor centre and other facilities. Daniels vowed to perform the necessary repairs and reopen the memorial "as soon as possible."

While Napolitano sounded the alarm about the attacks at a cybersecurity event hosted by The Washington Post, she declined to provide any details about them. A fired-up Mitt Romney rallied a crowd of just under 3,000 in Roanoke County this morning at the first of three stops in Virginia. Romney played off one of President Barack Obama’s slogans of four years ago – “Hope and change” -- by arguing that he offers “real change.” After a few days of relative political truce for Hurricane Sandy and its fallout, Romney was back on the offensive while speaking at Integrity Windows in the Bonsack area of Roanoke County, contrasting what he sees as two different paths for the American people. If Obama is re-elected,

The governor's office on Thursday confirmed the thefts at the two Virginia Beach properties but declined further comment. Dear Undecided Voter: Given that you’re an undecided voter, you probably don’t believe those who keep saying that this is “the most important election of our lifetime.” I’m sure that sounds like political hyperbole to you. It isn’t. This is indeed the most important election of our lifetime, and I say that with confidence without even knowing how old you are. In a nutshell: Re-electing President Obama will lock us into a course that will lead us to fiscal collapse, place unimaginable burdens on our children and destroy the ability of government to protect our interests

PJMedia contributor Ringo came across these intriguing Obama campaign signs yesterday in front of a house in Hollywood: Now, you’re likely thinking to yourself: “That Obama portrait looks vaguely familiar. Have I seen it somewhere before?” And the answer is Yes. Because this particular Obama campaign sign portrait was apparently modeled after various iconic portraits of Fascist leader Benito Mussolini. Not possible? Judge for yourself: This 1920′s Fascist propaganda painting of Mussolini also seems to have been an inspiration for the Obama portrait, including the deep-set eyes. Here are a couple more Fascist

Former Penn State President Graham Spanier has been charged with several counts in the Jerry Sandusky child rape scandal at the university, including perjury, conspiracy, and endangering the welfare of children. The scandal, which erupted nearly a year ago, led to the firing of Spanier (pictured) and longtime head football coach Joe Paterno, who died in January. Sandusky, the 68-year-old former Penn State assistant football coach, was convicted in June of sexually abusing 10 boys and was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison in October. Jurors determined that Sandusky, who retired from Penn State in 1999,

"I really believe, having read it, that it is the smoking gun warning here. You've got this emergency meeting in Benghazi, less than a month before the attack. At that briefing, the people are told that there are ten, ten, Islamic militias and al-Qaeda groups in Benghazi. The consulate can not sustain a coordinated attack and they need extra help. This information goes directly to the office of the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. So, again, you have the culpability of the State Department. This is a very specific warning that they're in trouble, they need help

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER TO JUAN WILLIAMS: You think that the administration is withholding information that could serve them? This is an administration that when they did the raid on bin Laden, SEAL Team Six, and they had a ton of information -- a lot of that should never have been released, which served them well -- they released it almost immediately in a scandalously open way because it exposed a lot of methods and a lot of our people. This is not an administration which has shown itself to be a keeper of secrets that

Geraldo Rivera is bucking the Fox News trend on criticizing the Obama administration’s handling of the death of four Americans at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and is criticizing the criticism. Fox News has been keeping focus on the story, and some of the network’s personalities have taken to criticize the media for ignoring the story. Rivera rebutted the criticism, arguing that it is a “cruel myth” to suggest the deaths of the four Americans killed might have been prevented, and said, “Life is not an action movie.”

Sixteen Fisker Karma electric vehicles caught fire and burned to the ground after being submerged by saltwater from Hurricane Sandy's storm surge. The $100,000 cars were parked in Port Newark, N.J., prior to the storm's arrival, according to Jalopnik. The vehicles were submerged when Hurricane Sandy's storm surge beached the port, flooding the luxury electric vehicles and other cars parked in the port. Jalopnik reported the cars "then caught fire, exploded." The website showed several photos of what remains of the vehicles.

NEW YORK/WASHINGTON- New York state on Wednesday asked the U.S. federal government to pay all the costs of cleaning up and repairing damage from massive storm Sandy that tore through the Northeast this week and crippled New York City. Governor Andrew Cuomo said he is asking fellow Democrat, President Barack Obama, to pay 100 percent of the estimated $6 billion bill, at a time that state and local government budgets remain constrained by a weak economic recovery. That would be a significant change from last year when the federal government covered about 75 percent of the $1.2 billion cost

Rep. It doesn't matter if early voting is the hot new trend. Companies must still give their employees in Texas at least two consecutive hours off on Election Day in which to cast their ballots. That's not an issue for someone who works 9 to 5 because the employee has two consecutive hours on either side of the regular workday, since the polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to the Texas Secretary of State's Office. But in this world of 12-hour shifts and 9/80 schedules, complying with state election law can get complicated.

In 2008, Barack “No Drama” Obama was the coolest presidential candidate America had ever seen — young, hip, Ivy League, mellifluous, and black, with a melodic and exotic name. Rock stars vied to perform at his massive rallies, where Obama often began his hope-and-change sermons by reminding the teary-eyed audience what to do in case of mass fainting. Money, like manna from heaven, seemed to drop spontaneously into his campaign coffers. Ecstatic Hollywood stars were rendered near speechless at the thought of Obama’s promised Big Rock Candy Mountain to come — peace, harmony, prosperity,

The Health and Human Services (HHS) Department has deployed teams of medical professionals from around the country to assist hurricane victims in New York and New Jersey, according to the announcement. The emergency declaration allows HHS to waive certain rules for Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP beneficiaries at states' request with the goal of ensuring continuous care throughout the crisis.

Seven weeks later, the White House still hasn't explained what President Obama did and didn't do during the seven hours of the attack on Benghazi on September 11. And there's been no response from the White House to questions asked by senators or THE WEEKLY STANDARD or David Ignatius in the Washington Post. We have, to be sure, heard from some government officials. But the information they've provided raises still more questions. CIA director David Petraeus authorized a statement pointedly saying that "No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need;
