Superstorm Sandy inflicted "extensive" damage on the National September 11 Memorial, built at the World Trade Center site in New York to honour those killed in the 2001 attacks, an official said on Wednesday. The memorial's chief executive Joe Daniels said the site had suffered "extensive impacts" due to "serious flooding" at the foundation level of the World Trade Center, where a museum is currently under construction. VIRGINIA BEACH -- Two beach houses owned by Gov. Bob McDonnell's family were broken into as the governor was in Richmond overseeing the state's preparation and response to Superstorm Sandy. The governor's office on Thursday confirmed the thefts at the two Virginia Beach properties but declined further comment. Media outlets report that, according to Virginia Beach police, the homes were broken into sometime between Saturday and Monday and two televisions were taken. Local police are investigating but no arrests have been made.
