Hillary Clinton spent her 65th birthday with her immediate family including Bill, Chelsea and her husband Marc, having a much-needed rest and getting pampered at the luxurious Mayflower Inn in Washington, Conn., over the weekend. The Clintons were spotted strolling the grounds, including the Shakespeare Garden, reading and playing cards. (Snip) Spies said Bill and Hilary enjoyed the inn’s pianist and sax player and played cards until they were the last to retire from the lobby at 12:30 a.m.. The Clinton family enjoyed a vegan, gluten-free cake and ate from the menu.

President Barack Obama may have declared a 'major disaster' in New York and Long Island, but that hasn't stopped waves of Superstorm Sandy-related memes from washing across the Internet. As the fierce weather-front continues to batter the north-east corner, it has already been subjected to widespread Photoshop work. (Snip) Elsewhere, other online jokers posted images of the Statue Of Liberty statue cowering behind her base, while the requisite Titanic still of a drenched Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet trying to make it out of, not a doomed liner, but a New York City subway station.

For the second time during the presidential campaign, a group of African-American ministers in North Carolina has criticized Franklin Graham for challenging the spiritual beliefs of President Barack Obama, accusing the evangelist Monday of promoting a narrow form of Christianity that supports a politically conservative point of view. Meeting in Charlotte, the group read an open letter to Graham that comes in response to a series of full-page ads that bear a photograph of his father, Billy Graham, and ask voters to elect candidates who support “biblical principles.” In comments to the

Details of the murderous terror attack on the Benghazi consulate/CIA safe house that took the lives of four U.S. citizens on September 11, 2012, are cloudy at best.(Snip) We further know there are a number of individuals out there who know the truth or part of the truth about what happened in Benghazi that night. Atlantic City mayor Lorenzo Langford escalated tensions with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie after the mayor said Tuesday he would welcome the chance “to confront the governor mano y mano” over how he handled the city’s evacuation during Hurricane Sandy. A day earlier, Christie had criticized Langford as a “rogue mayor” for supposedly encouraging residents to ride out the storm in designated shelters rather than leave the area entirely. (Snip) Langford strongly denied the characterization of what happened, saying the governor was “either misinformed and ill-advised, or simply just deciding to

Paris - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sought on Tuesday to convince Arab states that an Israeli military strike on Iran would benefit them, removing a potential threat and easing tensions across the Middle East. (Snip) In an interview published on Tuesday with French magazine Paris Match, Netanyahu said such a strike would not worsen regional tensions, as many critics have warned. "Five minutes after, contrary to what the sceptics say, I think a feeling of relief would spread across the region," he said. As Hurricane Sandy battered the East Coast and disrupted the lives of millions of Americans, radio listeners heard President Obama joke about the songs on his iPod. The radio segment demonstrates the perils of pre-taped interviews. Obama made the remarks about his diverse taste in music on Saturday, but he did not realize it would be aired at such a sombre time. ‘I’ve got a pretty good mix. I’ve got old school. Stevie Wonder and James Brown. I’ve got Rolling Stones. Bob Dylan. And then I’ve got everything from Jay-Z to Eminem to the Fugees to you name it,’ he said. Obama has canceled campaign

Canberra — A poll shows that Australians appear to be split over Prime Minister Julia Gillard's judgment that her main political rival is sexist. Gillard's fiery speech to Parliament on 9 October in which she branded opposition leader Tony Abbott a misogynist for a string of allegedly sexist comments has been lauded by feminists around the world. (Snip) A poll by Sydney market researcher Newspoll published on Tuesday in The Australian newspaper found that 45% of respondents said Abbott had behaved in a sexist way toward Gillard recently and 39% said he had not. Two media-tracking sources say Mitt Romney's campaign has started reserving TV time in Pennsylvania for the final two days of the campaign, including Election Day. The initial placements come as the pro-Romney super PAC Restore Our Future is buying over $2 million in time there, and as Crossroads is also going up with a buy over $600,000. The Obama campaign, forced to expend resources there, has responded with a defensive buy of over $600,000. The Romney buy is intended to signal the campaign considers the state, which Republicans have made plays for in past presidential cycles

Remnants of Hurricane Sandy will spark fierce winds and rain across Britain from tomorrow, forecasters predicted last night. One warned of a “horror show” in time for Halloween. Gusts of up to 80mph threaten to wreak havoc while huge downpours are expected to last until the weekend. Forecaster Jonathan Powell, of Vantage Weather Services, said the remnants of Hurricane Sandy will drive the wind and rain. He said: “Britain could feel a nudge from Hurricane Sandy over the next couple of days. “We are bracing ourselves for the backlash of what Sandy could generate in the United States.”

Just over 1 percent were still undecided. In a September Suffolk University/7News poll, Warren led Brown 48 percent to 44 percent, with 8 percent undecided. “Elizabeth Warren is riding a final wave of momentum to the U.S. Senate,”

Two British soldiers have been shot dead by a man wearing Afghan police uniform in what appeared to be the latest “green on blue” attack where a rogue member of the Afghan forces has killed his allies. The soldiers from 1st Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles were shot dead at a police checkpoint in Helmand province. British and Afghan officials confirmed the killer wore police uniform, but it was not immediately clear if he was a genuine member of the force, or an insurgent fighter in disguise. The killer fled and was last night being hunted. Major Laurence Roche, spokesman for British forces in

Washington - President Barack Obama is warning the public that the massive storm that struck the East Coast "is not yet over." The president says there are still risks of flooding and downed power lines. He called the storm "heartbreaking for the nation." The president offered his thoughts and prayers to those affected and told them "America is with you." He said he also told government officials coordinating the response that there was "no excuse for inaction." And he said he told governors in affected areas that if they get no for an answer, "they can call me personally at the White House."

The scale of the devastation left by Superstorm Sandy is mounting today as the death toll continues to rise--currently 33 people across the US and Canada have been reported dead, but the final figure is expected to be significantly higher. President Obama declared a 'major disaster' in New York and Long Island as flooded streets were littered with cars, homes were razed to the ground and tankers washed up on shore. Hundreds of thousands of people are without power in New York and the transit system, schools, the stock exchange and Broadway are all out of action after

Hurricane Sandy's pummeling of the eastern United States has already thrown the presidential campaign off course and disrupted early voting in several states, but could she be the deciding factor in this election? Political scientists have found that bad weather on Election Day typically benefits Republicans, but how much Sandy will affect voter turnout on November 6 remains a mystery. The same can be said of the potential political fallout from the storm. Will President Barack Obama look strong and commander-in-chief-like as he stares down the hurricane, as Sen. John McCain

What is it like to spend your last moments on earth fighting for your life? To have devoted your life, and your life's work, to a great nation -- to serve it well and honorably -- and serve for it with courage and distinction, to all come down to a last, frantic few seconds, spent defending you and your fellow Americans and call for the cavalry to come help, and no cavalry comes--and you die. This is what the two former Navy SEALs, under the employment of CIA, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, faced in their final moments in Benghazi on September 11, 2012. It is not a question of could we have

France's Prime Minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault, has suggested the 35-hour week brought in by his Socialist party in 2000 is open to review. Asked about the possibility of restoring the 39-hour week during a meeting with newspaper readers, he said, "Why not? There is no taboo." His remarks sparked a political storm and Mr Ayrault later appeared to play them down. NEW YORK — Millions of people from Maine to the Carolinas awoke Tuesday without electricity, and an eerily quiet New York City was all but closed off by car, train and air as superstorm Sandy steamed inland, still delivering punishing wind and rain. The U.S. death toll climbed to 38, many of the victims killed by falling trees. The full extent of the damage in New Jersey, where the storm roared ashore Monday night with hurricane-force winds of 80 mph, was unclear. Police and fire officials, some with their own departments flooded, fanned out to rescue hundreds.

New York - The impact of Hurricane Sandy on the lives of residents of the Northeast will be great. Millions are without power, likely for an extended period of time. Businesses -- from the nation's stock exchanges and all the way on down to thousands of corner stores -- have been shut down. The total cost of property damage and lost business is estimated to run between $10 billion to $20 billion, according to Eqecat, which provides loss estimates to the insurance industry. (Snip) But economists surveying the immediate aftermath of the storm say there may be little if any impact on the nation's

Does anyone else find it deliciously ironic that Hurricane Sandy has forced the “suspension” of the Obama campaign while the president play-acts the role of nurturer-in-chief in the aftermath of the storm? Recall that John McCain disastrously suspended his “campaign” four years ago to sit around and look worried about the unfolding financial crisis, and while that alone did not cost him election, it did allow candidate Obama to both eat McCain’s lunch out on the hustings and appear as “no-drama Obama” to an electorate that knew virtually nothing about the nice young man, in

In France, a new youth movement is targeting the negative influence Islam is having on French society. Actually, a video by Generation Identitaire (Generation Identity) has issued a video, Declaration of War, in response to what is perceived to be an Islamist war against Western society: “We are the generation who get killed for glancing at the wrong person, for refusing someone a cigarette, or having an ‘attitude’ that annoys someone.” Meanwhile, the establishment media are declaring the group to be “far right” and ignoring the circumstances which have led to the emergence of such a movement.

Two additional shooting deaths were recorded later Monday, bringing the total to 438. The violent year has grabbed international attention. For Alexander’s family, it brought

We have had ambassadors murdered abroad before, but we have never seen anything quite like the tragic fate of Chris Stevens. Amid all the controversy over Libya, we have lost sight of the human — and often horrific — story of Benghazi: a U.S. ambassador attacked, cut off and killed alone, after being abused by frenzied terrorists, and a second member of the embassy staff murdered, as two American private citizens rushed to the rescue, heroically warding off Islamist hit teams, until they were overwhelmed and also killed. Seven weeks after the tragedy in Benghazi, new government narratives just keep
