Hurricane Sandy has resulted in an extraordinary amount of flooding in Manhattan (particularly lower Manhattan) as storm surges have broken all kinds of records. As of the middle of the night on Monday, the water has receded a bit. For example, the Battery area now has no water, after having well more than a foot of water earlier. But the city is far from out of the woods, as another high tide is coming on Tuesday morning.
