Obama’s Big Reason
for Going Small

Why is President Obama casting aside the dignity of his office and sacrificing his likeability (his real firewall) with such a silly and tawdry closing campaign? Big Bird, binders, bayonets, bulls*****r, Romnesia, Lena: Why triple-down on triviality when it seems so counterproductive? It’s as if Obama were flashing a great big Biden-sneer at half the country. Is this any way to win an election, much less govern a nation afterwards? Actually, from Obama’s point of view, the answer is emphatically yes. The president’s campaign may look small, yet its ambitions are large.

Barack Obama stood at the podium, trying to figure out what to say — or at least how to say it. He started speaking, then stopped, then started again, each time searching for the right tone, the right cadence, the right words. The audience was a small group of advisers, including two African American scholars who were counseling him on how to get his message across most effectively with black voters.(snip) “He recognizes that little black children can see their possibilities through his accomplishments.” Massachusetts Gov. The secretary of defense in his best grown-up voice says: “(The) basic principle is that you don’t deploy forces into harm’s way without knowing what’s going on; without having some real-time information about what’s taking place,” Panetta told Pentagon reporters. “And as a result of not having that kind of information, the commander who was on the ground in that area, Gen. Independents’ Day
Romney’s advantage with

With a week to go until the 2012 presidential election, Mitt Romney has a decided leg up on President Barack Obama. The polls are clear. Since the fallout from the first debate in Denver on October 3, Romney has enjoyed a relatively durable lead over the president in the Real Clear Politics average of the national polls. While the lead is small, it has persisted over time, and, more important, history suggests that this is trouble for an incumbent. The only sitting president to mount a last-minute comeback against his challenger was Gerald Ford in 1976,

Biden Heads to Pennsylvania

Today, the Obama campaign announced that, with the threat of the approaching Hurricane Sandy, Dr. Jill Biden was canceling scheduled events in Pennsylvania. But, they slipped something far more intriguing into their statement. The campaign reported that Vice-President Joe Biden would travel to the Keystone State on Thursday, attending "grass roots" events. If Biden is going to PA ahead of the final weekend of the campaign, it can only mean that Obama is increasingly worried about keeping the state in his column.

Burkha-clad women are being trained to fight by terrorists in the volatile Russian Republic of Chechnya. This film, posted online by extremists, shows women in the traditional clothes being taught how to wield Kalashnikov assault rifles, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and sniper rifles with deadly results. It is believed the all-female group of fighters was recruited by a group linked to Al-Qaeda that has bases in Pakistan and Afghanistan. A massive and historic storm is barreling towards the beltway this weekend. The entire DC-NYC axis, headquarters of the left media complex, will suffer the effects of three storm-fronts, converging at the same time. Evacuations may be ordered, but it is likely too late. No, I'm not talking about Hurricane Sandy. The storm I mean is the growing realization that Obama is on the cusp of losing the election. At 4:22 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2010, President Barack Obama stepped into the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room at the White House and announced some startling news: Two bombs, hidden inside printer cartridges, had been detected the previous day on a cargo plane heading from Dubai to Chicago. The detection was obviously good news--but did it really have to be news? That is, wasn’t there much to be gained by staying mum on the news, with an eye to catching the culprits? Israel has destroyed a Sudanese weapons factory in a bombing raid, it was claimed yesterday. Sudan vowed to take ‘decisive steps’ in retaliation against Israeli interests, which it said are now ‘legitimate targets’. The Yarmouk arms factory, in the south of the capital Khartoum, was destroyed in a series of explosions on Wednesday last week, in which two people died. Sudan immediately pointed the finger of blame at Israel, while an American monitoring group said satellite images of the aftermath of the explosion suggest the site was hit in an airstrike.

Though Romney rallies may not have an explicit dress code, Iowa City residents Chase Gunderson and Adam Peters found out firsthand that looking a certain way can still get you banned from the event. After the two gay 20-somethings were kicked out of the rally without explanation, Peters wrote a Facebook note that is now being shared across the Internet. Peters expresses confusion, writing, "Mr. Romney- I may not support you... but my friend Has and Did for the last 5 years ... yet, we weren't allowed to attend? Why? As the presidential race tightens across the country, a new Star Tribune Minnesota Poll has found that it is narrowing here as well, with President Obama holding a 3-point lead and Republican Mitt Romney making gains in the state. The poll shows Obama with support from 47 percent of likely voters and Romney earning backing from 44 percent -- a lead within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. Last month, Obama had an 8-percentage point advantage in the Minnesota Poll. Romney has apparently cut into the Democrat's advantage among women since then

Doctors in Germany say they have successfully removed a 28 kilogram tumour big enough to fill a wheelbarrow from a 60-year-old woman. The woman, named as Irmtraud Eichler, had previously been diagnosed as obese after piling on weight as the tumour attached to her ovary rapidly grew. Doctors prescribed a course of anti-obesity medicine to combat Ms Eichler's alarming weight gain, but when the swelling left her barely able to stand, her daughter insisted on a second opinion and an ultrasound scan revealed the growing tumour. Lately a simple question has been coming to mind: just how did Mitt Romney get elected governor of heavily Democratic Massachusetts ten years ago? Romney could have run for governor of Utah instead, which would have been not only easier but would have spared us the egregious Jon Huntsman. Saying that he ran as a moderate, pro-choice Republican is not a fully adequate explanation. Nor is a weak Democratic opponent (Shannon O’Brien), or the strange fact that Democratic Massachusetts had elected three Republicans in a row before Romney.

What was President Obama doing Tuesday evening, September 11, while Americans were under assault in Benghazi? Which of his national security team did he meet with, whom did he speak with, what directives did he issue? So far, the White House won't say. But we do know one thing the president found time to do that evening: He placed a call to Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in order to defuse a controversy about President Obama's refusal to meet with Netanyahu two weeks later at the U.N. General Assembly, and, according to the White House announcement that evening,

In the last week, there have been two consistent themes being sounded by the Democrats. One is their assertion that Mitt Romney’s momentum has been halted and even reversed. The other is that their ground game is so good that the president is bound to win the election no matter what the polls say. These two talking points are closely related, since the polls that liberal analysts cite in order to assert that the president is edging back into the lead are based on assumptions about the composition of the electorate that are only possible if the Democrats match

Hurricane Sandy isn’t the only storm approaching Washington. So is an electoral storm. President Obama’s job approval has fallen a stunning seven points in just three days. Overnight, Sandy’s minimum central pressure plunged to a staggering 951 mb. That’s lower than the snow bomb that wrecked the East Coast in 1993. Other ominous signs have appeared. The polls show a president on the run. Romney is ahead or pressing hard in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and even Michigan. Virginia and North Carolina seem lost to Obama. So does Florida. Olympia, Wash. - Republicans are in position to extend their recent gains among governors as they compete for seats they haven't won in a quarter-century. Of the 11 states with gubernatorial elections in November, eight are now led by Democrats, and each of the most competitive races is a GOP pickup opportunity. The numbers suggests that Republicans soon will claim 30 to 33 governorships after holding just 22 a few years ago -- an advantage not reflected in the divided Congress or competitive presidential race. "It says that when people are choosing the government closest to the people,
