Biopsy From a Malignant,
Failed Presidency

Whatever happened to Barack the world’s smartest leader and incomparable statesman? Those days are gone forever. Instead, it would be impossible to catalog the staggering list of ill-advised, mistaken, foolish, naive and utterly inane decisions by Obama and his administration. So, instead—let us use a single Obama catastrophe, the events of Libya—to critique and symbolize his failed tenure. This is reasonable because every bad Barack habit and evil instinct is represented in this new American disaster. In the November 2012 presidential election, America is given an opportunity almost no other country suffering under tyranny

President Obama on Saturday vowed to hold his administration “accountable” for September’s attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, saying he took ultimate responsibility for any security lapses. “What my attitude on this is is if we find out there was a big breakdown and somebody didn’t do their job, they’ll be held accountable,” said Obama in an interview with MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, according to a report on that network’s website. “Ultimately as Commander-in-Chief I am responsible and I don’t shy away from that responsibility," Obama added.

A Virginia company has filed suit after its construction of a monument in Alabama honoring a noted Confederate general, who also was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, was halted. According to the Selma Times-Journal, the federal suit, filed by KTK Mining of Richmond, says the company got the necessary permits to do the work on the monument in Old Live Oak Cemetery honoring Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest, but the city of Selma, Ala., suspended the permits when the project drew protests. The company's suit says the suspension was done without prior notice to KTK Mining.

It’s part of Fox News’ “voice of the voter” campaign “to interview the people who decide the election, not the politicians,” he said.

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama is attending church with his daughters and tracking developments with Hurricane Sandy before traveling to Florida later Sunday ahead of a campaign appearance Monday. Obama and his two daughters walked to St. John's Episcopal Church through Lafayette Park across from the White House on a brisk and overcast morning. The president said "morning, guys" to reporters and photographers as he passed them. First lady Michelle Obama was traveling to Chicago on Sunday

When reading one of the endless stories about a just-released poll Thursday night, a pair of numbers struck my eye: 60 and 37. Those were the percentages of white voters supporting Mitt Romney and Barack Obama in the ABC/Washington Post tracking poll. Overall, the poll showed Romney leading Obama 50 to 47 percent. The reason those two numbers struck my eye is that they are identical to the percentages of white voters supporting Republicans and Democrats in elections for the House of Representatives in the 2010 exit poll.

It’s the Even More Perfect Storm, a hurricane colliding with a massive cold front to create a historic Nor’easter that’s also a Sou’wester. It’ll be like a derecho colliding with a haboob. And terrible humidity. We’ll be in extra huge trouble if there’s also a solar flare thrown into the mix. That’s what they’re thinking right now at the Capital Weather Gang as they sit around in their gang attire flashing their gang signs. They’re thinking: Please don’t hit us with a coronal mass ejection. Because that’s when the Frankenstorm will see pressure readings

Amidst this campaign’s bickering about which candidate is women’s friend or foe, the Obama camp targets young women in an eye-catching web ad intended as feminist but, in fact, profoundly insulting. Its main effect is to show that, while the Republicans have serious “woman problems” of their own making, the Democrats often peddle a pseudo-feminist paternalism that reeks of condescension. The one-minute Obama for America spot features Lena Dunham, 26-year-old creator and star of the HBO show Girls, addressing a college-age female audience. “Your first time shouldn’t be with just anybody. Soon after he took office, President Barack Obama began a process ultimately designed to reestablish full US diplomatic relations with Iran, including a reopening of embassies, an Israeli daily reported Sunday. The initiative, part of a wider shift in America’s diplomatic orientation, aimed at reaching understandings with Tehran over suspending its nuclear program, Maariv claimed, citing “two Western diplomats very close to the administration.” The initiative led to at least two US-Iran meetings, the report said. Israel was made aware of the contacts, and opposed them. But Iran rebuffed the “diplomatic hand” offered by the White House, Maariv reported.

The election-eve mood is tinged with sadness stemming from well-founded fear that America’s new government is subverting America’s old character. Barack Obama’s agenda is a menu of temptations intended to change the nation’s social norms by making Americans comfortable with the degradation of democracy. This degradation consists of piling up public debt that binds unconsenting future generations to finance current consumption. So argues Nicholas Eberstadt, an economist and demographer at American Enterprise Institute, in “A Nation of Takers: America’s Entitlement Epidemic.” This booklet could be Mitt Romney’s closing argument.

The tone of the 2012 campaign might best be captured by the need to begin with an emphasis on what the Republican candidate will not do. Mitt Romney will not raise taxes on the middle class. He will not destroy Medicare. And he will not lie to the American people every time he opens his mouth. Political campaigns exaggerate grossly, play loose with the facts and cast the opposition in the worst light imaginable. Yet it is difficult to recall a campaign less truthful than President Obama's in 2012. Its foundation rests on deeply misleading assertions about Romney,

Don Zimmer is chuckling. Entertaining himself with nothing more than the memories of his youth — the 81-year-old baseball lifer still sees it all so clearly. The championship-deprived Brooklyn Dodgers have finished a Saturday afternoon game against the Phillies, and the Dodgers infielder is heading to Coney Island with pitcher Johnny Podres. It’s a typical night. They walk along the boardwalk, ride the Cyclone and talk with fans, capping the night by playing a ball-throwing game and cleaning out every teddy bear from a game booth, which the duo then distribute at the next day’s game as gag gifts.

In August, the left found it amusing to speculate about Divine judgment when Hurricane Isaac seemed to be approaching Tampa, FL as the Republican National Convention began. Even when Isaac veered west and followed a similar path to that taken by Hurricane Gustav in 2008--which also coincided with the Republican convention, in St. Paul, MN--and Hurricane Katrina in 2005, some on the left celebrated the GOP's misfortune. As Hurricane Sandy bears down on heavily Democratic mid-Atlantic and northeast states, no one, left or right, is joking. To recall: Samuel L. Jackson

For Romney and Obama, suburban

ASHBURN, Va. — With the presidential contest in Virginia teetering on a knife's edge, Mitt Romney is counting on the economic concerns of suburban women to lock up a state that's almost a must-carry for him. Joanie Smerdzinski, 34, is one of them. She voted for Barack Obama in 2008 and still finds him more likable than his Republican rival. "I mean, would I want to hang out with Romney? No," said the political independent, who also disagrees with Romney's opposition to same-sex marriage. But personality and social issues won't secure her vote. "I think the economy is the key issue,"

We invested heavily in hope back in 2008. Our 2012 endorsement of Mitt Romney comes with an imperative for change. The change that we’d hoped would elevate our economy wound up woefully short. The presidential gambit to place health-care reform ahead of economic recovery jeopardized both. President Barack Obama expended all of the presidential leadership on muscling through health care reform, leaving little for implementation and none for significant economic recovery. We support many aspects of the president’s health care reform. But
