How to explain this budding “bromance,” as first lady Michelle Obama puts it, between her husband and Bill Clinton? The 44th president and the 42nd president are indeed having a whirlwind affair in the closing days of the campaign. President Obama takes Clinton on three campaign stops next week, stopping in Orlando, Youngstown, Ohio, and Northern Virginia to kick off the last full week of the race. An ad Clinton cut, defending Obama against all “the stuff some folks are saying,” is set to run in those states and in Nevada, Colorado and Iowa.

Myriad are the failures of the Obama administration, but none is more tragic, or more frightening, or more foreboding of catastrophe than the appalling mishandling of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi. Details continue to leak, but it’ll be hard to top the bombshell from Fox News at week’s end reporting that repeated urgent requests for military help during the attack were summarily denied — for hours. In those hours, former Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods was killed after he chose to disobey an order to “stand down” — and rushed to aid his fellow Americans.

When 21-year-old, sealed testimony by the Republican presidential nominee from his friend’s heated divorce case is unsealed 11 days before a presidential election, interests are understandably piqued. Gloria Allred, the attorney representing Romney’s friend’s ex-wife, said the 430 pages of Romney testimony wouldn’t mean much without her client’s context to explain what is hidden. Those secrets will apparently stay secret, because the judge who unsealed Romney’s testimony in the divorce case between Staples founder Tom Stemberg and Maureen Sullivan Stemberg did not remove the confidentiality agreement surrounding the case.

Yesterday, the CIA insisted that "No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate." The denial is in reference to the report that the CIA held back forces from helping the Americans who were under attack in Benghazi, Libya on 9/11. And today, the White House is making a similar claim. "Neither the president nor anyone in the White House denied any requests for assistance in Benghazi," an Obama administration spokesman tells Yahoo's Olivier Knox. Knox reports:

A few days ago, I participated in a debate with the legendary antiwar dissident Daniel Ellsberg on Huffington Post live on the merits of the Obama administration, and what progressives should do on Election Day. Ellsberg had written a blog post arguing that, though Obama deserves tremendous criticism, voters in swing states ought to vote for him, lest they operate as dupes for a far more malevolent Republican Party. This attitude is relatively pervasive among Democrats, and it deserves a genuine response. As the election is fast approaching, this piece is an attempt at laying out the progressive case

Do you wonder what the hell happened in Libya? Right after our ambassador and three other Americans were murdered by that “spontaneous” uprising in Benghazi by people who just happened to be armed with RPGs, know the layout of our safe house, and who congregated on — let’s see, oh, right, it was on September 11, what do you know! — right after that, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressed surprise: after all, hadn’t we helped “liberate” the Libyans from the monster Gaddafi and made way for . . . for what? Oh, right, for the “Arab Spring”!

Hawaii is under a tsunami warning after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake rocked an island off the west coast of Canada late Saturday night. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center originally said there was no tsunami threat to Hawaii, but then issued the warning late Saturday. It remains in effect until 7 p.m. Sunday and a small craft advisory is in effect until Sunday morning. Officials are estimating a wave between 3-6 feet for certain locations in Hawaii.

About the two Navy SEAL’s killed in Libya: Quite an astounding tribute to the courage and bravery of the two former Navy SEAL’s that went to the aid of Ambassador Stevens and Embassy staff. Courageous! (snip) But the stunning part of the story is that Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty killed 60 of the attacking force. Once the compound was overrun, the attackers were incensed to discover that just two men had inflicted so much death and destruction. As it became apparent to these selfless heroes, they were definitely going to lose their lives unless some reinforcements showed up in a hurry.

Who denied the Navy Seals’ pleas for help in Benghazi? Mitt Romney has led Barack Obama in the Gallup national tracking poll for nearly three weeks. He has led the Rasmussen national tracking poll for about the same time. And now that the Washington Post and ABC News are publishing their own tracking poll, he’s leading in that one, too. It seems reasonable to conclude that, at this moment in late October, Romney is leading the presidential race. Those results have led to a lot of nervousness among Democrats and a number of reassuring analyses from party operatives and left-leaning journalists. No matter what the national polls

Citing “sources who were on the ground” in Benghazi, Libya, Fox News is reporting that an urgent request for military help during last month’s terrorist attack on the US consulate there “was denied by the CIA chain of command.” (snip) former Marine Corps officer and Reagan administration senior Pentagon official Francis “Bing” West outlined much the same scenario as Fox News, including a timeline of events in Benghazi. “Fighter jets could have been at Benghazi in an hour; the commandos inside three hours,” Mr. West wrote. “If the attackers were a mob, as intelligence reported, then an F-18

Each time I mention that I voted for Barack Obama in 2008, I get a blast from some who didn’t. “How could you be so dumb?” is a typical response to my confession. It is certainly a confession — of error. Obama fooled me once, but not twice. I’m voting for Mitt Romney Nov. 6th. (Snip) He failed as president because he is incompetent, dishonest and not interested in the actual work of governing. His statist policies helped consign millions of Americans to a lower standard of living and his odious class warfare further divided the nation. He had no

There is only one Issue before the public, one grand recognition that defines our time — the sense, drummed into our heads during the bank bailouts of 2008 and 2009, that the fix is in. Regardless of which party holds the majority, we now know, Washington is in the hands of the oligarchy. Arguments over this issue are well-nigh everywhere on the nation’s streets. In general, however, the men at the top of the tickets do not go there. Only one of the national candidates is willing to acknowledge what’s on the public’s mind, and this is what makes Republican vice-presidential

TRIPOLI, Libya -- It began around nightfall on Sept. 11 with around 150 bearded gunmen, some wearing the Afghan-style tunics favored by Islamic militants, sealing off the streets leading to the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. They set up roadblocks with pick-up trucks mounted with heavy machine guns, according to witnesses. The trucks bore the logo of Ansar al-Shariah, a powerful local group of Islamist militants who worked with the municipal government to manage security in Benghazi, the main city in eastern Libya and birthplace of the uprising last year that ousted Moammar Gadhafi

The Republican senator was notified of the accident while coming off stage after a rally with GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney Saturday afternoon. The senator campaigned with Romney at two Florida rallies on Saturday and was scheduled to attend a third before being picked up by a state police cruiser along Romney's motorcade route. Vancouver - A tsunami warning was issued last Saturday for the coastal areas of British Columbia following a 7.7 magnitude earthquake off the waters near Prince Rupert. People in coastal areas were told to move inland to higher ground while residents in low-lying coastal areas were ordered to be on alert for instructions from their local emergency officials after the tsunami warning was issued just before 8 p.m. local time. President Obama remains at least an even bet to win reelection. Democrats are favored to hold on to the Senate — an outcome few prognosticators envisioned at the beginning of the year. And yet, with a little more than a week to go, the party holds almost no chance of winning back the House. “They called the fight. It’s over. We’re going to have a House next year that’s going to look an awful lot like the last House,” Stuart Rothenberg, the independent analyst who runs the Rothenberg Political Report, said. The outlines of a comeback for Democrats seemed possible.

For all of the polls that are flying out almost hourly now, there are two common trends emerging: Mitt Romney is leading independents by healthy margins, and who holds the overall lead is entirely dependent on the party split within the sample. As of last night, Romney has a razor thin lead of eight tenths of a point nationally against an average Democratic partisan advantage of 4.4 points. In 2008, Barack Obama won the election by 7.2 points (52.9–45.7) and Democrats outnumbered Republicans by eight points.

LAND O'LAKES, Fla.—Mitt Romney won a major newspaper endorsement on Saturday, as the Des Moines Register's editorial board formally backed the GOP candidate's bid for the presidency. It was the first time in 40 years the influential battleground state paper endorsed a Republican in the general election, dating back to its support of Richard Nixon in the 1972 election. The Register previously backed Romney in the 2012 GOP primary.(Snip) it determined Romney was better positioned to "forge the compromises in Congress" necessary to turn the economy around, create jobs and get the federal budget back on track.

The accusations leveled against three Army generals over the past six months are as varied as they are striking, the highest-profile of a growing number of allegations of wrongdoing by senior military officials. A one-star general was flown home from Afghanistan this spring to face criminal charges, including sexual assault. A four-star general formerly in charge of the increasingly vital Africa command was accused of financial mismanagement, accepting inappropriate gifts and assigning staff personal tasks. And a three-star general who oversees the U.S. Missile Defense Agency was described in an inspector general report as an abrasive and verbally abusive boss.

The New York Times endorsed President Obama for reelection on Saturday in an editorial that touts the president's record on issues ranging from civil rights to healthcare to foreign policy. In its endorsement, the Times editorial board admitted that "we have criticized individual policy choices that Mr. Obama has made over the last four years, and have been impatient with his unwillingness to throw himself into the political fight," but expressed optimism that he is "ready for the partisan battles" that will come after the election.

Mitt Romney has opened up a clear lead over Barack Obama in their presidential race. That owes a great deal to the candidates’ debate performances, of course. But something else is going on, too. In recent days, Obama’s approval rating has taken a perceptible hit. Via the Weekly Standard, we see that in the Rasmussen survey, only 47% approve of Obama’s job performance, while 52% disapprove. There are two plausible explanations for Obama’s current slide: voters may be disgusted by the mean, petty campaigning he is running, or they may disapprove of his handling of the Benghazi crisis. Or both.

Shakespeare said that “what’s past is prologue,” and the older you get the longer your prologue becomes, so you have to forgive me — as I edge inexorably closer to 60 — for seeing portents and omens of our country’s willful blindness today in my own callow youth. Transport yourself back 40 years, and consider the lessons to be learned from another presidential election year — 1972 — when America had to choose between squeaky-voiced war hero George McGovern and the incumbent presidential sociopath, Richard Nixon.[SNIP] We have another president who has reneged on his promises, and another imperfect challenger.

More than 3,000 young illegal immigrants are applying daily to take part in the administration's new deportation reprieve policy, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said last week. Napolitano said a total of roughly 200,000 people have applied since the agency began accepting applications two months ago. She made the announcement Wednesday to a panel of educators from across the country who serve on the Homeland Security Academic Advisory Council, as reported by The Hill newspaper. The agency began accepting applications after President Obama in June made the policy change --
