The Two Polls That Have Chicago Terrified
National Review Online, by Josh Jordan    Original Article
Posted By: brianod1- 10/28/2012 12:01:20 AM     Post Reply
For all of the polls that are flying out almost hourly now, there are two common trends emerging: Mitt Romney is leading independents by healthy margins, and who holds the overall lead is entirely dependent on the party split within the sample. As of last night, Romney has a razor thin lead of eight tenths of a point nationally against an average Democratic partisan advantage of 4.4 points. In 2008, Barack Obama won the election by 7.2 points (52.9–45.7) and Democrats outnumbered Republicans by eight points.

There have been two shootings today on I-96 in Livingston County that law enforcement officials believe are connected to 22 other shootings that occurred during a three-day period earlier this month. One man was struck in his buttocks, marking the first injury in the shootings, which police believe is the work of one man firing a handgun, mostly at motorists, while he drives.(Snip) He said preliminary findings indicate the gunman may have been on westbound 96 shooting across the expressway. He said it’s unclear whether the man was stopping to shoot, shooting from a field or shooting

LAND O'LAKES, Fla.—Mitt Romney won a major newspaper endorsement on Saturday, as the Des Moines Register's editorial board formally backed the GOP candidate's bid for the presidency. It was the first time in 40 years the influential battleground state paper endorsed a Republican in the general election, dating back to its support of Richard Nixon in the 1972 election. The Register previously backed Romney in the 2012 GOP primary.(Snip) it determined Romney was better positioned to "forge the compromises in Congress" necessary to turn the economy around, create jobs and get the federal budget back on track.

Accusations against generals
cast dark shadow over Army

The accusations leveled against three Army generals over the past six months are as varied as they are striking, the highest-profile of a growing number of allegations of wrongdoing by senior military officials. A one-star general was flown home from Afghanistan this spring to face criminal charges, including sexual assault. A four-star general formerly in charge of the increasingly vital Africa command was accused of financial mismanagement, accepting inappropriate gifts and assigning staff personal tasks. And a three-star general who oversees the U.S. Missile Defense Agency was described in an inspector general report as an abrasive and verbally abusive boss.

The New York Times endorsed President Obama for reelection on Saturday in an editorial that touts the president's record on issues ranging from civil rights to healthcare to foreign policy. In its endorsement, the Times editorial board admitted that "we have criticized individual policy choices that Mr. Obama has made over the last four years, and have been impatient with his unwillingness to throw himself into the political fight," but expressed optimism that he is "ready for the partisan battles" that will come after the election.

Mitt Romney has opened up a clear lead over Barack Obama in their presidential race. That owes a great deal to the candidates’ debate performances, of course. But something else is going on, too. In recent days, Obama’s approval rating has taken a perceptible hit. Via the Weekly Standard, we see that in the Rasmussen survey, only 47% approve of Obama’s job performance, while 52% disapprove. There are two plausible explanations for Obama’s current slide: voters may be disgusted by the mean, petty campaigning he is running, or they may disapprove of his handling of the Benghazi crisis. Or both.

Shakespeare said that “what’s past is prologue,” and the older you get the longer your prologue becomes, so you have to forgive me — as I edge inexorably closer to 60 — for seeing portents and omens of our country’s willful blindness today in my own callow youth. Transport yourself back 40 years, and consider the lessons to be learned from another presidential election year — 1972 — when America had to choose between squeaky-voiced war hero George McGovern and the incumbent presidential sociopath, Richard Nixon.[SNIP] We have another president who has reneged on his promises, and another imperfect challenger.

More than 3,000 young illegal immigrants are applying daily to take part in the administration's new deportation reprieve policy, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said last week. Napolitano said a total of roughly 200,000 people have applied since the agency began accepting applications two months ago. She made the announcement Wednesday to a panel of educators from across the country who serve on the Homeland Security Academic Advisory Council, as reported by The Hill newspaper. The agency began accepting applications after President Obama in June made the policy change --

ASBURY PARK, N.J. -Just about every New Jersey Democrat who's been mentioned as a potential candidate in next year's gubernatorial election will be in Asbury Park for a rally for President Obama. Monmouth County Democratic Chairman Vin Gopal says Saturday's 11 a.m. event is attracting a who's who of possible gubernatorial challengers. Gopal says Democrats recognize the importance of doing well in Monmouth and Ocean counties to have a chance statewide. The traditionally Republican central Jersey counties helped Chris Christie upset Gov. Jon Corzine three years ago. Confirmed speakers include

President Obama found time to joke about his birth certificate as he visited the swing state of New Hampshire on Saturday. In between slamming Mitt Romney for upping taxes and fees in neighboring Massachusetts, the President joked that his rival was to blame for the scandal about his birth certificate. 'He raised fees to get a birth certificate which would have been expensive for me,' said the president to laughter and cheers. It was a veiled reference to so-called 'birthers' who doubt he was born in America and question the authenticity of his Hawaiian birth certificate.

(ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE) President Barack Obama will continue to push for middle-class tax cuts as part of his economic agenda, but the White House is not considering a specific new tax cut plan at this time, a spokesman for Obama said on Saturday. It is something he'll continue to push for," White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters. He denied a Washington Post report that said the Obama administration is considering a tax cut

An overarching consideration was which of the party’s candidates could we see occupying the White House, and there was no question that Romney was qualified for the job. Jay Leno had a great idea Friday night for an inexpensive Halloween costume. Early in his Tonight Show monologue on NBC, the host said, “Wear a re-elect Obama button and go out as a journalist” (video follows with commentary): It really is saying something when the media are so in the tank for an incumbent president's reelection that late night hosts are making jokes about it. So-called "journalists" around the country must be so proud of themselves.

Iowa's largest and most important newspaper backs Mitt Romney over President Obama — the first time they have endorsed a Republican since 1972: The president’s best efforts to resuscitate the stumbling economy have fallen short. Nothing indicates it would change with a second term in the White House. The president’s prescription upon entering office was a dose of government stimulus, which was the right call because it put cash in the pockets of consumers, made investments in vital infrastructure and kept millions of teachers and police officers on the job. That stimulus was necessary

ALTA LOMA— A case of campaign vandalism is under investigation Friday in Alta Loma. Someone keyed the word “Obama” into two cars and slashed seats in another outside a residence that had Mitt Romney campaign signs. CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Rob Schmitt spoke to Ken Slown, owner of one of the keyed vehicles. Slown actually supports President Obama! He explained to Schmitt that he and his wife — both currently unemployed — are staying with her parents and it’s her parents who support Romney.

President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney campaigned feverishly in closely contested battleground states on Saturday but changed travel plans to avoid Hurricane Sandy, the massive storm approaching the U.S. East Coast. With just 10 days before Election Day and polls showing the national race a dead heat, Romney was holding three rallies in Florida, whose 29 electoral votes are the biggest prize among states considered too close to call. He told supporters that Obama was focusing his campaign on small things, and swore he would win the election, to chants of

A reader, relying on publicly available information, has reconstructed what we know and can infer about what happened in Benghazi. I haven’t tried to verify all of his facts nor do I necessarily vouch for his inferences, although in general they seem reasonable. But his analysis is, I think, a valuable contribution to our understanding, and I reproduce it here in slightly edited form: This last week may have finally broken the protective wall around the POTUS. Between the comments of Hillary Clinton, Gen. Petraeus, Defense Secretary Panetta and the FOX News report, the picture of what really transpired

President Barack Obama took heat this week for calling his Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, a "bullsh***ter" while speaking with a writer from Rolling Stone magazine, but the president on Friday said he didn't use the comment until the interview had finished. "You know, this was a conversation after an interview, a casual conversation with a reporter," Obama told a reporter with KUSA, a local CNN affiliate based in Denver. Douglas Brinkley, who penned the article, wrote that while he and the magazine's executive editor, Eric Bates, were at the White House for the interview,

Five years after their cancers were diagnosed, 97 percent of the aspirin users were still alive versus 74 percent of those not taking the drug. Aspirin seemed to make no difference

The full extent of the blackout can be disclosed following an investigation by The Sunday Telegraph--which comes on the day that clocks moved back an hour, making it dark earlier
