Gallup Shows an 11-Point Swing in
Party Affiliation Since 2008
Weekly Standard, by Jeffrey H. Anderson    Original Article

Newly released figures from Gallup show that the demographics of the American electorate ... have changed very little since 2008 except in one way: Party affiliation has swung dramatically toward the Republican party... Gallup’s tallies on the composition of the electorate show that, among likely voters, Democrats held a 10-point advantage over Republicans in party affiliation in 2008 — 39 to 29 percent. Four year later, Gallup’s tallies show that, among likely voters, Republicans hold a 1-point advantage over Democrats in party affiliation — 36 to 35 percent. That’s an 11-point swing in just four years.

With polls showing tight races in battleground states and Mitt Romney taking a narrow lead in the latest national ABC News/Washington Post tracking surveys, President Obama will take his message to young voters today during a half-hour interview on MTV. The MTV special comes a day after parts of Obama's one-on-one with Rolling Stone magazine appeared online, including an exchange in which he offered a colorful assessment of his opponent's relationship with the truth. "You know, kids have good instincts," Obama said, joking that he was "a killer" with the "six to 12" demographic.

Gallup: Mitt Romney Soars

Republican nominee Mitt Romney jumped back out to a 5-point lead over President Barack Obama in Gallup's daily tracking poll of likely voters Friday, and now leads the president 51-46. Obama and Romney are now tied, 48-48, among registered voters, and the president's approval rating dipped to just 48 percent, below the "safe" level for an incumbent's re-election. The results indicate the halting of what had been a pronounced Obama bounce over the past seven days of polling. Obama had climbed back from a 7-point deficit a week ago to just 3 points over the past two days.

Dear Friend, I apologize for my lack of communication of late. So much to be done with what time is left to me. Each day I feel stronger though, which of course contradicts what was told to me mere months ago. Perhaps true purpose has given me the strength to do what must be done? I like to think so as the ledger of my soul leaves much yet to be accounted for. Decades of arrogance and character malpractice have left very deep and regrettable bruising. But enough of that.

Vice President Joe Biden told a Wisconsin crowd that Republicans voted to give a $500 trillion tax cut to the wealthiest Americans. “They voted to extend tax cuts for the very wealthy, giving $500 trillion tax cut to 120,000 families,” Biden said today, emphasizing every syllable of “$500 trillion.” Biden was apparently referring to the Republican effort to extend the Bush tax cuts for all income levels.

Barring some dramatic change in the final ten days or so, Mitt Romney will win the popular vote in the 2012 presidential election. In the 22 national head-to-head polls with Romney conducted in the month of October, Obama has hit 50 percent once, 49 percent four times, 48 percent three times, 47 percent eight times, 46 percent once, and 45 percent five times. (He hasn’t hit 48 percent in a national poll since October 20.) Mind you, in most of these polls Obama has trailed narrowly, with Romney at 48 to 50 percent,

During a 20-minute interview with President Obama aired on Thursday's NBC Rock Center, host Brian Williams devoted a total of 1 minute 36 seconds to the subject of the terrorist attack in Libya. At the same time, four segments of soft coverage of the President's re-election campaign received a combined total of 2 minutes 19 seconds. The promotional fluff included the President stopping by a pizza shop in Iowa (1 min 3 sec), appearing on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno (30 sec), having singer Katy Perry perform at a rally in Las Vegas (31 sec), and

Newt Gingrich is predicting that this election will be a near-landslide victory for Mitt Romney. “I believe the minimum result will be 53-47 Romney, over 300 electoral votes, and the Republicans will pick up the Senate,” the former House speaker said Thursday night on Fox News’s “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.” Gingrich, who vied for the GOP presidential nomination earlier this year, named several swing states where he’s expecting success for Romney and his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, including Wisconsin, Virginia, Florida and North Carolina. Gingrich added that Michigan and Pennsylvania are “starting to be in play.”

There is an old saying that success has a thousand fathers, but failure is an orphan. That gives a lot of insight into the sequestration clause in last year’s debt-ceiling deal, which has not just left Barack Obama’s own Secretary of Defense warning about its “devastating” impact on the military, but also economists warning about the damage it will wreak on the economy. Obama tried to dodge responsibility for the sequestration when Mitt Romney criticized him for it during the final debate, claiming that “[t]he sequester is not something that I’ve proposed. It is something that Congress has proposed.”

Now we know why civil rights groups like the NAACP, ACLU, and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights are so upset about election integrity groups like True the Vote monitoring the polls on November 6. Pat Moran gave us a clue yesterday. Moran revealed on James O’Keefe’s undercover video why these groups have been so dishonest, ugly, and desperate to smear True the Vote and keep them out of the polls. Simply, the “election protection” operation of these civil rights groups was seen, at least to Moran, as the final step in committing voter fraud.

On his show tonight, Sean Hannity highlighted President Obama‘s “R-rated” attack on Mitt Romney when he called his Republican rival a “bullshitter” in a Rolling Stone interview. He asked how the man who used to run on the idea of optimism and away from fear-based campaigning is now distracting from the real issues creating controversy over things like Big Bird. John Sununu said that Obama’s use of profanity showed the president has “no class” and he was trying to “appear… cool” to the magazine’s audience. U.S. economic growth picked up in the third quarter as rising consumer outlays and a surge in federal government spending more than offset weaker business investment, falling exports and drought damage, offering a mixed picture of the recovery just weeks ahead of the presidential election. The nation's gross domestic product—the broadest measure of goods and services produced by the economy—grew at an annual rate of 2.0% between July and September, the Commerce Department said Friday. Economists polled by Dow Jones Newswires had forecast 1.8% growth. Friday's figures are the final GDP reading ahead of November's election
