That’s the tag line to a tough new ad the Obama campaign is airing in Ohio. But it is one that, ironically, echoes a slogan that has been used as a racial code over the last half century or more. The context of the ad is very different from the one in which the phrase “one of us” was used to divide the country along racial lines, but Conservative commentators quickly seized on it.Obama’s critics said the fact that he would use such loaded language in the hard-fought race to win Ohio shows

We’re just weeks from the most important election in a generation and every single thing Democrats like you and I spent a lifetime fighting for is on the line. David Richter, the president of Hill International (HIL), a mid-sized outfit that manages construction projects, was speaking last year at a private meeting with investors when he was asked about the recent success of his newest subsidiary, HillStone International. How was it that HillStone, a newcomer in the business of home building, landed a massive and potentially lucrative contract to build 100,000 homes in war-torn Iraq? Richter didn’t mince words. It really helps, he said, to have “the brother of the vice president as a partner,” according to a person who was present.

Tehran — Iran has agreed to abandon its nuclear-weapons program in a historic diplomatic achievement certain to dominate tonight’s foreign-policy presidential debate, and dramatically reshape the electoral landscape. “This is an extraordinary breakthrough,” said Deputy Undersecretary of State Jonathan Ebert Jr., lead negotiator for the U.S. “It’s a tribute to the hard work of our diplomatic team and President Obama’s visionary leadership.” According to Ebert, the momentous deal was struck late Sunday night after President Obama called Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and personally apologized for a Madonna video the Iranian leader found offensive.

Last year she was hailed as one of the most influential people in the world - a defender of women's rights as Afghanistan's only female head prosecutor. Ms Bashir has been lauded by both Michelle Obama and Hilary Clinton - and she was one of ten women to receive a 'Women of Courage' Award in Washington last year. But Maria Bashir's reputation is now in doubt after the Times revealed that Ms Bashir is also the most prolific prosecutor of women for Afghanistan's so-called 'moral' crimes, such as adultery. While Ms Bashir campaigns against abuse husbands, more

If Mitt Romney wins the presidency, expect the Democrats to complain that the Republicans bought the election — and to try to outlaw it from ever happening again. The signs are already emerging. A New York Times column earlier this month ran under the headline “Buying the Election?” The New Yorker magazine ran a long article by the editor of Thompson Reuters Digital, Chrystia Freeland, reporting, “the Republican National Committee and Romney .

The Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was planned and “not spontaneous,” a U.S. intelligence official has told The Washington Times. The official’s statement rebuts news reports that there is no evidence the attack was planned, even as the intelligence community says al Qaeda-linked militants carried out the deadly assault. The official, who is not authorized to talk to the news media, asked to remain anonymous. The news reports support the Obama administration’s use of the word “spontaneous” to describe a mob assault that ended in the death of U.S. Ambassador to

The author of a new book is angry at the suppression of politically incorrect views on campus. “On college campuses today, students are punished for everything from mild satire, to writing politically incorrect short stories, to having the ‘wrong’ opinion on virtually every hot button issue, and, increasingly, simply for criticizing the college administration,” writes Greg Lukianoff, the president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), in Unlearning Liberty: Campus Censorship and the End of American Debate. Lukianoff, a first generation American, details the ways that colleges and universities have restricted free speech on their campuses.

Occupied Jerusalem: The former US president Jimmy Carter said on Monday that Washington had “zero” influence over Israel and the Palestinians to resolve their decades-long conflict, and its sway had dropped to the lowest level in 45 years.(snip)“A major change lately has been the withdrawal of American influence” in the Israeli-Palestinian arena, Carter said, estimating it was the first time since the 1967 Six-Day War that Washington had not “played a major role” in trying to resolve the conflict. “This is the first time that we’ve seen since 1967 that an American government hasn’t played a major role,” he said.

On Monday, MSNBC’s Chuck Todd sat down with DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Shultz in Florida, where he asked questions relating to tonight’s presidential debate on foreign policy, including one regarding her thoughts on what Mitt Romney will bring to the table that is different from what Obama has and will propose. Wasserman Schultz told Todd that Obama will “keep our eye on the prize” and protect American from harmful forces — a contrast, she added, to the “backwards cowboy justice Mitt Romney would drag us back to.” At least it’s not reverse cowgirl justice, though.

Russell Means never shunned attention. Whether leading Native Americans in railing against broken federal treaties, appearing in a Hollywood blockbuster or advocating a sovereign American Indian nation within U.S. borders, the activist who helped lead the 1973 uprising at Wounded Knee reveled in the spotlight. But it was only on his terms. Openly critical of mainstream media, the onetime leader of the American Indian Movement often refused interviews and verbally blasted journalists who showed up to cover his public appearances. It gets worse: We just learned that Mitt Romney and the Republicans started this month with a $34 million cash advantage. This election is already extremely close.(snip)It can’t be good. Sen. John Kerry, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and President Obama's debate sparring partner, is now considered the leading candidate to replace Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the beneficiary of United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice's fumbles on the recent Benghazi, Libya assassination. Several sources told Secrets that Rice, while still a favorite of Obama and the West Wing, would face withering questions during a confirmation hearing and could be hit with congressional subpoenas even before Election Day as lawmakers determine if politics played a role in the muddled reports of what happened in Benghazi.

Can we stop pretending that Barack Obama’s candidacy is some grass-roots uprising? Obama’s campaign has outspent Romney’s campaign. The Democratic National Committee has outspent the Republican National Committee. While Romney’s SuperPAC (Restore our Future), has outspent Obama’s SuperPAC (Priorities USA), that $40 million Romney SuperPAC edge doesn’t come close to making up for the Obama campaign’s $180 million edge. There is legally undisclosed spending going on here, and there’s reason to believe Romney benefits from more of it than Obama, but that’s not conclusive, and we don’t know how big Romney’s edge is in that category.

Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) on Monday accused Mitt Romney of trying to exploit the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, for political gain. The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that President Obama was told in his intelligence briefings for a week after the Libya assault that it had been sparked by a spontaneous protest. Van Hollen said the report proves that Obama administration officials were acting in good faith when they initially attributed the attack to anger over an anti-Islam video. "Well, there’s no doubt we should get to the bottom of the intelligence information,

Unrelenting bad news could dog President Obama at tonight’s foreign policy-focused presidential debate. “There’s plenty of ammo,” said Democratic strategist Lou DiNatale. “And the president better be ready to handle some incoming.” Recent headlines include Russian President Vladimir Putin personally overseeing ballistic missile tests, Iran’s nuclear program still under way, a lingering war in Afghanistan, civil war in Syria, a Muslim Brotherhood government in Egypt and shifting stories about what happened in the Sept. 11 Benghazi terrorist attack. It may be harder for Obama to attack Romney’s once-mocked assertion
