Paris - France's foreign minister says Iran appears on track to reach the ability to produce a nuclear weapon by the first half of next year. France is one of six countries that have negotiated with Tehran over its nuclear program, which Iran insists is peaceful. Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius told Europe-1 radio Sunday that unspecified experts "have established in an absolutely indisputable way" that Iran has compiled a full array of centrifuges that "apparently will allow the ability to go toward possession of the nuclear weapon by the first half of next year, the end of the first half."

Bad news sugar lovers: a diet high in fructose won’t just make you fat, it may also make you stupid, according to research out of California. A steady high-fructose diet disrupts the brain’s cognitive abilities, leading to poor learning and memory retention, says a study by Fernando Gomez-Pinilla, a neurosurgery professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and Rahul Agrawal, a visiting UCLA postdoctoral fellow from India. “This type of diet. . . Germany’s Merkel Calls for EU

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is pushing a scheme that would purport to give an unelected official within the increasingly powerful but unpopular European Union the authority to veto the budgets of elected national governments. If approved, the EU would have more power over its formerly sovereign members than even the U.S. federal government has been able to usurp from American states. Speaking to the German Parliament before an EU summit on October 18, Merkel declared that it was time for the emerging Brussels-based super-state to have even more powers. "We have made good progress on strengthening fiscal discipline with the

President Barack Obama’s online donation site has accepted illegal donations from a foreign citizen, while Gov. Mitt Romney’s site rejected a donation from the same man, according to a New York Post article. In 2008, a similar test showed that Obama’s deputies accepted money form unidentifiable an donor. In September, the Obama campaign collected $2,199,204.38 in donations with non-existent or invalid ZIP codes. The Romney campaign’s September total: just $29,620. The revelation comes from a Government Accountability Institute (GAI) report to be issued tomorrow that combed the Federal Election Commission (FEC) data to determine the effectiveness of each campaign’s donation security system. “The use of a robust Address Verification System (AVS) would significantly minimize donations with invalid zip codes from slipping through the net,” said GAI President Peter Schweizer. “When you use your credit card at a pay-at-the-pump gas station, you have to enter your zip code. Republican Mitt Romney has expanded his lead in Gallup's daily tracking poll to 7 points among likely voters, an increase of a point from Saturday. The 52 percent to 45 percent lead matches Romney's largest of the campaign. Other recent polls, including a Wall Street Journal/NBC poll released Sunday, have shown a dead heat between Romney and President Barack Obama. But Gallup continues to trend more in Romney's direction.

Abingdon, Va. - The billboards stand right at the intersection, ugly and jarring in this lovely southern town. “If you voted the last election to prove you weren’t racist, vote this election to prove you’re not an idiot,” reads the largest and most aggressive one. “Our jobs depend on coal. Why does Obama want to take them away?” says another. A third has a smiling Obama cartoon and “His promises = lost jobs” with a picture of a “cancelled” coal miner. Just in case anyone misses the point, a large “Romney/Ryan” sign hangs in the middle.

The undecided New Hampshire voter has just two weeks to answer this question: Why switch from Barack Obama to Mitt Romney? By now the question is easy to answer if one has been listening to the candidates. Barack Obama was in Manchester on Thursday. When he came to Veterans Park in 2008, he sold “hope and change.” He was uplifting, inspiring. Last week, that was gone. In its place was the negativity, the deception, the nastiness that Obama once said he wanted to remove from politics. Obama offered New Hampshire nothing but bitterness and envy. He attacked Romney with a litany

The last U.S. president to attempt transformative social change on the scale attempted by President Barack Obama was Lyndon B. Johnson, who in 1964 launched his Great Society. Times were different then. At the end of Johnson's term, the national debt stood at just $353 billion, representing an annual growth rate during the five-plus years of Johnson's presidency of just over three percent. The nation's debts then were under control. Fair or not, the debt monster since then has grown unimaginably, forcing its harsh reality into every new discussion about federal spending.

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Counter-Terrorism and Human Rights has warned Americans not to elect Republican Mitt Romney in next month’s presidential election, saying that doing so would be “a democratic mandate for torture.” The UN’s Ben Emmerson was referring to Romney’s refusal to rule out the use of waterboarding in interrogating terror detainees, a practice that President Barack Obama has ended. Colin Perkel of The Canadian Press reported Emmerson’s remarks from a symposium in Toronto on the impact of 9/11 on human rights: "The re-introduction of torture under a Romney administration would significantly increase

Given the final two minutes to speak during Tuesday's second presidential debate, President Barack Obama quickly spotlighted what he said was the key distinction between his re-election candidacy and the campaign of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. "There's a fundamentally different vision about how we move our country forward," Obama said. He's right, and "fundamentally different" is what the nation needs. For that reason, Romney should be elected president on Nov. 6. The slow U.S. economy and its discouragingly high unemployment overshadow the other important issues in this election. Economic recovery must be spurred to a faster pace,

Experts Fear Looted Libyan

Security analysts say the armed uprising in Libya poses a long-term security threat — that weapons looted from government stockpiles could circulate widely, including heat-seeking antiaircraft missiles that could be used against civilian airliners. Photographs and video from the uprising show civilians carrying a full array of what were once the Libyan military’s weapons — like the SA-7, an early-generation, shoulder-fired missile in the same family as the more widely known Stinger — that intelligence agencies have long worried could fall into terrorists’ hands.

SACRAMENTO — The wealthy conservatives behind a November ballot measure that would constrain organized labor's ability to raise political money say their initiative, Proposition 32, would help change the balance of power in California's Democrat-dominated Capitol. But the experiences of some states that have passed similar measures suggest that's not always the case. CBS News's Bob Schieffer, who will moderate Monday's foreign policy debate, announced last week that China will be one of topics he will have President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney address. China is a particularly timely topic, given that a recent Government Accountability Institute (GAI) report that found Obama's campaign website may be vulnerable to foreign donations--and deliberately so. In addition, there have been recent reports that the Chinese government may be actively spying on nearly every American industry. That makes China's potential for exploiting loopholes in U.S. campaign laws to influence elections and undermine America's sovereignty

Mitt Romney is the man who can lead the nation out of its lingering economic doldrums and restore faith in the United States. A successful executive in the public and private sector, Romney is a committed capitalist who understands that the nation's prosperity is driven by free enterprise, not government. Under President Barack Obama's liberal and inconsistent leadership, the country has limped along, barely a step ahead of another recession. The deficit soared, government expanded and the prospects of more regulations and taxes chilled corporate investment.

One day before the final presidential debate, Senator Marco Rubio, R-Fla., offered a strong defense of Mitt Romney and panned the president as a leader lacking vision refusing to divulge his plans for the future. "The president has no plans for the next four years," Rubio said on "Face the Nation" Sunday. "Tomorrow is his last chance to tell us what he's going to do in the next four years." The Florida senator said the debates have been an important component of the presidential race because Romney was able to cut through the president's narrative.

Progressive forces are trying to birth into being a neo-pagan kingdom, with all that implies, symbolized by the Democrat National Convention dropping Israel and God from the party platform.
