New York - This year was supposed to be the year of the plug-in car but, as 2012 draws to a close, it looks like the electric car market still isn't fully charged. By the end of 2012, most major automakers will have a plug-in car of some type on the market, but plug-in cars still make up just one tenth of one percent of all cars sold in America. So have automakers gotten ahead of themselves and produced too many? (Snip) Despite their lock on the EV market, the Leaf and Volt are failing to meet Nissan and General Motors' respective sales goals. GM had once hoped to sell 45,000 Volts in 2012,

What does Barack Obama really think about Israel? The evidence makes it obvious; he has contempt for the Jewish State in every way, and his nurturing of Islamist takeovers around the Middle East only adds to the perception that the safety of Israel is not of concern to him. (Snip) How about the repeated efforts by Obama to publicly humiliate Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu? And the time Obama stated that Israel should return to the suicidal pre-1967 borders? Or the elision from the 2012 Democratic platform of some key elements from the 2008 platform, namely that Israel was the

BEIRUT — Angry Sunnis burned tires and blocked roads around Lebanon on Saturday to protest the assassination of a senior Lebanese intelligence official in a bombing widely blamed by the country’s anti-Syrian factions on the government in Damascus. The assassination brought the violence threatening to engulf the region to the heart of Lebanon’s capital after several years of relative calm, heightening fears that the sectarian tensions already aggravated by the Syrian conflict would erupt into outright war. Maj. Gen Wissam al-Hassan, who headed

However else Campaign 2012 is chronicled, there is little doubt it will be remembered as the Year of Debates. Never have candidate debates played as important a role, from the start of the Republican primaries through the general election, as they have in this election. Debates shaped the Republican presidential field during the fall of 2011 and played a critical role in determining the outcome of that contest last winter. Ask Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum about that. The general election debates have shaken up the race and last week provided the most confrontational encounter of the

Winners act like winners. Losers act like losers. And according to members of the same media elite who have spent months protecting him, Barack Obama is now looking like a loser in the closing days of his reelection campaign. This morning, a few members of the elite "Gang of 500," including Time's Mark Halperin, The National Journal's Ron Fournier, ABC's Terry Moran, and Politico's Roger Simon, publicly voiced their disapproval of a campaign they describe as "belittling," "not confident," "peevish" and worse: Terry Moran@TerryMoran - The Obama campaign's tone right now--

Friday's Rasmusssen Reports poll not only found Mitt Romney with a three-point lead (50%-47%) over Obama in Virginia but also with a two-point lead (49%-47%) among women voters. Romney hit the critical 50% mark in Virginia, but it is even more significant that he beats Obama among women voters while the Obama campaign has insisted women voters, especially those in Northern Virginia, would be his greatest firewall. Kabul, Afghanistan - A diminished but resilient al-Qaida, whose 9/11 attacks drew America into its longest war, is attempting a comeback in Afghanistan's mountainous east even as U.S. and allied forces wind down their combat mission and concede a small but steady toehold to the terrorist group. That concerns U.S. commanders, who have intensified strikes against al-Qaida cells in recent months. It also undercuts an Obama administration narrative portraying al-Qaida as battered to the point of being a nonissue in Afghanistan as Western troops start leaving. While we were all enjoying the ride while it lasted, I don't know of anyone who expected Romney to still hold a six-point, 51-45%, lead in the Gallup poll when today's numbers rolled in. But he did. This is the fifth day in a row where Romney's been at 50 or above and the fourth day in a row he's been ahead of Obama by six points or more. Lefties are comforting themselves with the fact that for right now this is an outlier poll -- which is true -- but a steady outlier with the name Gallup on it is my mind of outlier. Romney supporters still need to prepare themselves, though, for a tightening before election day.

United Nations-affiliated election monitors from Europe and central Asia will be at polling places around the U.S. looking for voter suppression activities by conservative groups, a concern raised by civil rights groups during a meeting this week. The intervention has drawn criticism from a prominent conservative-leaning group combating election fraud. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), a United Nations partner on democratization and human rights projects, will deploy 44 observers around the county on Election Day to monitor an array of activities,

Survivors of the Fort Hood massacre released a new video this week calling on the government to classify the November 2009 shooting as a terrorist attack rather than "workplace violence," a change that would make them eligible for specific combat-related benefits. In the video, uploaded on YouTube Wednesday, witnesses to the shooting, some of whom were wounded in the attack, voiced their frustration with the government's labeling of the attack in which 13 people died and 32 others were wounded in a shooting rampage allegedly carried out by a fellow soldier, Maj. Nidal Hasan.

For the first time, Gov. Romney has moved into the lead in Real Clear Politics' projection of the electoral votes. The national polls now range from Obama +3 to Romney +7 with an average of Romney +1. President Obama's once unstoppable reelection effort has not only stumbled, it is collapsing in key states, with the Obama campaign reportedly releasing assets from North Carolina and cutting ad buys in Florida. So I can see why the Democrats are in the middle of a group freak-out. But behaving like ninnies will do them no good. If I could get voters to believe

Cincinnati - Four years after Barack Obama’s historic triumph, the paradox of black America’s crushing reality flows from Kurt Crews in nine simple words and a shrug that conveys equal parts frustration and forgiveness. “It’s getting worse — and I’m voting for Barack Obama,” said Crews, 48, a part-time night watchman. “It took George W. Bush eight years to completely mess things up. It’s going to take eight for Obama to make it right.” (Snip) Obama has twice tempted backlash by speaking out on race since he was sworn in. Florida - Mitt Romney mocked President Barack Obama Friday for his "petty attacks" on the Republican challenger, saying the incumbent was playing word games instead of justifying his bid for a second term. Romney took the stage in the political battleground of Florida, quickly berating Obama for comments early Friday when he branded his rival an untrustworthy flip-flopper suffering from "Romnesia". "They've been reduced to petty attacks and silly word games," Romney told a crowd of more than 8,500 people at the Daytona Beach Bandshell, as the two candidates stumped for votes just 18 days

Us Magazine had a little tidbit of gossip when it discovered who made Ann Romney's and Michelle Obama's hot pink dresses worn to the recent presidential debate. In its headline Us blares that Ann Romney's dress cost "$1,690." But Michelle Obama's ensemble was priced at $3,290 despite the silence of the headline. Us gives the world the following headline: "Ann Romney Wears $1,690 Oscar de la Renta Dress to Presidential Debate." The Navy took control of a Swedish ship carrying pro-Palestinian activists towards Gaza on Saturday, and towed the vessel to Ashdod instead. The activists refused all Israeli requests to divert their course, and had declared that their intention was to violate Israel's naval blockade on the Gaza Strip. "When those onboard made it clear they had no intention of cooperating or accepting the invitation to arrive at Ashdod Port, it was decided to take control of the ship and bring it to Ashdod," the IDF said. Gallup's latest tracking numbers put Mitt Romney ahead of Barack Obama 52% to 45%, the largest lead for Romney since the race began. Historically at least, no one has ever lost with numbers like these, at this stage in the race. According to past Gallup polls, Obama was ahead of Sen. John McCain 52% to 41% in October, George W. Bush had John Kerry beat 52% to 44%, and Bush was up 3% on Al Gore in 2000. (Snip) White voters, in fact, have eluded Obama and the Democratic Party in increasing numbers. A California man arrested on child pornography charges has been linked to the foiled plot by a young Bangladeshi to blow up the New York Federal Reserve, the New York Times reported Friday. The Times said Howard Willie Carter II was arrested after an FBI agent found 1,000 images and three video files containing child pornography on a laptop and hard drive in the trash near his San Diego apartment. After tracing the computer back to Carter, investigators found emails on it addressed to "Yaqeen," a name that had surfaced in the investigation of the bomb plot.

The federal government has quietly ended a 433-year-old historical controversy by officially recognizing a cove on the Point Reyes Peninsula as the site where Sir Francis Drake landed in 1579 and claimed California for England. The mystery of where England's most famous and feared sea captain landed has long intrigued maritime scholars. Many of them claimed Drake landed in a cove near Point Reyes in what is now Marin County, but others cited what they said was evidence that Drake put ashore in spots ranging from San Francisco Bay to Alaska, Oregon, British Columbia or

CHICAGO— It's legal to get an abortion in America, but in many places it is hard and getting harder. Just this year, 17 states set new limits on abortion; 24 did last year, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion rights nonprofit whose numbers are widely respected. In several states with the most restrictive laws, the number of abortions has fallen slightly, pleasing abortion opponents who say the laws are working. Some of the states with the toughest laws are spread across a big middle swath of the country, stretching from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.

It was the latest case of violence against women at the epicenter of Egypt's restive protests. The news channel said in a statement that Sonia Dridi was attacked around 10:30 p.m. Friday after a live broadcast on a protest at the square and was later rescued by a colleague and other witnesses. France 24 did not give further details about the attack, but it said its employees were safe and sound, though "extremely shocked,"

Bill Burton, a former Obama spokesman who runs Priorities USA Action, suggested in a Saturday memo that the best way to stop Romney from rising in the polls is to remind voters of his “time in the private sector and the devastating impact he had on middle class Americans.” “Polling data clearly illustrates that Mitt Romney’s business

PHILADELPHIA— A survey of about 1,100 Americans finds that more than 4-in-10 respondents admit they don’t have more than $500 in readily accessible savings. The survey is a kind of departure for CreditDonkey.com, a website that compares credit card deals. Not respondents all were poor. Some had big houses, big mortgages or 401(k)s, but still no more than five Benjamins to rub together right now. Jill Michal, president and CEO of the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, reacts to the lack of liquid assets.
