Detroit was once the industrial capital of the nation. But, decades of economic decline and a ruinous recession have turned the Motor City into America's crime capital. For the fourth year in a row, Forbes.com has rated Detroit, Michigan, as the most dangerous city in the country -- with a violent crime rate of 2,137 per 100,000 residents. Many of the other places on the list are also declining industrial powerhouse cities that have been left ravaged by dwindling blue-collar jobs and rising unemployment.Baltimore, Maryland, ranked number seven; Cleveland, Ohio, number nine; and Buffalo, New York, number ten;

The Obama administration appears to be mounting yet another version of its campaign to push back on claims that it misled on the intelligence related to the attacks in Benghazi on 9/11/12. But the new offensive by the administration, which contradicts many of its earlier claims and simply disregards intelligence that complicates its case, is raising fresh questions in the intelligence community and on Capitol Hill about the manipulation of intelligence for political purposes. (Snip) The administration's new line takes shape in two articles out Saturday, one in the Los Angeles Times and the other by Washington Post columnist David Ignatius.

WILLOW BEACH, Ariz. — A charter bus carrying tourists back from the Grand Canyon careened off a northwest Arizona highway late Friday night and crashed, killing the driver and injuring more than 20 passengers, six of them seriously, authorities said. The bus was northbound on Highway 93 and nearing the Nevada state line when the driver suffered a physical problem and lost control shortly before 8 p.m., the Arizona highway patrol said. The vehicle hit a ravine, tore up a small hill, and then bounced and lurched over rough terrain for more than 700 feet before stopping, damaging

With Friday's Gallup tracking poll showing Mitt Romney with a 51-45 lead over Barack Obama, the crew at NBC's Today decided to focus on a much more reliable method of predicting the next President of the United States: Halloween mask sales. Co-host Matt Lauer announced: "...there's some science behind this when it comes to the election. For example, according to the Huffington Post, this year Obama masks are out-selling Romney masks by more than 30%." [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump] Lauer detailed how the candidate with stronger mask sales has won the past

The ongoing collapse of President Obama's campaign may lead to some extraordinary stunts during Monday's last debate, but no matter what he tries, it is very unlikely that the president can reverse the enormous momentum behind Mitt Romney's campaign. (One data point. Congressman John Campbell, a frequent guest on my radio show, polled his district this week. It is California's 45. John McCain carried it by 4.7 points in 2008. Mitt Romney is almost 20 points ahead in this cycle. Campbell reports that this sort of result is showing up across the country.) The nation is simply finished with a president

You could see the pained expression on President Obama's face worsen as a 61-year-old undecided voter told the president during the second presidential debate that he and some co-workers... became aware of reports that the State Department refused extra security for our embassy in Benghazi.[Snip]The Obama administration was refusing to provide... adequate security for a U.S. ambassador... but the administration also committed to spending millions of dollars a year to provide a six-person, round-the-clock Secret Service detail to protect the assistant to the president for public engagement and intergovernmental affairs.

Washington, Oct. 20 (ANI): Former US President Bill Clinton has said that President Barack Obama is facing a tough re-election race because "impatient" Americans haven't fully recognized an economy on the mend. Campaigning for Obama in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Clinton urged voters to judge Obama on the past three years since he took office, in which private sector job growth has made up for lost ground. "This shouldn't be a race. The only reason it is, is because Americans are impatient on things not made before yesterday and they don't understand why the economy is not totally hunky

'I try to forget I had a good life," Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson wistfully quips about his career before being elected in 2010—or as good a life as could be had running a business in the midst of an unrelenting regulatory and rhetorical assault from Washington. Mr. Johnson jumped into the fire two years ago when he toppled progressive Democrat Russ Feingold in one of the year's marquee Senate races. He met with Journal editors this week to discuss what he has learned during his first two years in office and what he hopes to accomplish in the next four.

Having a president who perpetuates a falsehood to the American people about the cause of a terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that resulted in the deaths of four Americans. Having a president who uses $70,000 of taxpayers’ money to promote that falsehood on Pakistani television. Having a president who broadcasts that falsehood to the world using the megaphone of a speech before the U.N. General Assembly. Having a president who repeats the falsehood in front of the caskets of the four Americans killed in Benghazi. Having a president who will casually wreak havoc on the life

Cover-Up: America's slain ambassador in Libya repeatedly sought security which went unheeded, new documents show. The CIA, meanwhile, told Washington within 24 hours that the Benghazi attack was terrorism. So where was our president? The sorry answer is that it's starting to look as though he and his team knew all along that the attack in Libya was a terrorism from the start. That hasn't been what he's presented to the public. But instead of owning up to it, the White House has perpetrated the red herring that a old YouTube video depicting Islam

Pontiac — Several Metro Detroit police agencies have set up a task force to cope with a rash of 16 roadway shootings in Oakland, Livingston and Ingham counties over the past three days. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard in a news conference Friday told reporters that law enforcement officials in the three counties and the Michigan State Police have formed a task force to catch the person or people involved in shooting at random motorists before somebody dies. Bouchard asked the public to report suspicious activity on the road, no matter how insignificant it might seem.

Hi, everybody. In recent weeks, you might have noticed something. Or maybe even heard the sound of it if you live close enough. New homes are going up. In fact, construction workers are breaking ground on new homes in America at the fastest pace in more than four years. At the same time, more homes are being sold. Home values are back on the rise.

A meteor shower spawned by history’s most famous comet will peak this weekend, and the show could be dazzling for observers with clear skies, experts say. The Orionid meteor shower will reach its zenith overnight from Saturday to Sunday (Oct. 20-21) as Earth plows through debris shed by Halley’s Comet on its path around the sun. The most impressive display should come a few hours before dawn Sunday, when our planet hits the densest patch of Halley’s detritus. "Flakes of comet dust hitting the atmosphere should give us dozens of meteors per hour," Bill Cooke,

I had no idea this video would be so powerful before I started watching it. In fact at the moment I’m filled with anger after having heard the stories of those who survived, that Hasan is still alive 3 years after his ruthless massacre – but even more so that they are currently arguing in court whether he can keep his beard! And then on top of that I’m reminded that this administration labeled this Islamic terrorist attack as “workplace violence” which means those who survived it are ineligible for the purple heart and the families of those

Seattle – A Seattle school has banned students from celebrating a new holiday this year: Halloween. Lafayette Elementary School has decided to not allow students to dress up in costume for Halloween this year. And there is still some discrepancy between parents and the administration as to why the ban has been implemented this fall. The decision was first reported by the district (Seattle Public Schools) as being a preventative measure in the event that Halloween costumes could offend and upset students who come from other cultures. Dozens of parents complained to the school

DAYTONA BEACH — If Mitt Romney wanted an environment to loosen an uptight corporate image, he found it Friday night at the Bandshell. Steps away from the World's Most Famous Beach, at a venue surrounded by tens of thousands of leather-clad bikers, Romney made his pitch to replace Barack Obama as the next president of the United States. He didn't need long -- about 12 minutes -- with a crowd of 10,000 or so supporters who, judging from their reaction, had long ago made up their minds about how to vote Nov. 6.

Whether or not Mitt Romney makes it to the White House, his candidacy signals that Mormons have arrived in American political life. Just as President Obama’s nomination and election marked a sea change in the country’s tortured racial history, so Romney’s nomination has changed religious boundaries that have persisted for more than 160 years. No religious group has been more persecuted by the U.S. government, or more derided by other faiths present in the country, than the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (or the LDS Church, as many Mormons refer to it).

Hello, I’m Jeff Flake, congressman from Arizona’s Sixth District.Last week, the Obama Administration confirmed that the budget deficit for fiscal year 2012 will be $1.1 trillion dollars. This will mark the fourth year in a row that the federal government has spent more than it has taken in to the tune of over a trillion dollars. With the school year under way across the country, it is not comforting to think that the class of 2012 who were freshmen along with this President graduated without knowing what it was like to be in high school without the term ‘trillion dollar deficit’ being ever present in the news.

RealtyTrac, which advertises itself as the “leading online marketplace of foreclosure properties,” released its Foreclosure Market Report for September and Q3 2012 on Oct. 11. In the report, RealtyTrac reported that foreclosure activity dropped to a 5-year low in September. This week, President Obama’s campaign officials and surrogates adopted the report as a new talking point. On MSNBC, Obama Deputy Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutter credited Obama with producing “the lowest foreclosure rate in the last five years.” Obama surrogate Jennifer Granholm and campaign press secretary Jen Psaki used the same talking point over the past week.
