“He is very gentle and devoted to his studies,” says the father of Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis, who was arrested after trying to detonate what he thought was a 1,000-pound bomb at the New York City Federal Reserve Bank. And it could be true: he could be a gentle, studious soul. His studies of Islam could have led him to the conviction that he needed to wage jihad against Infidels. Nafis explained his action in clear Islamic terms. He told undercover agents, whom he thought were his fellow plotters: “I don’t want something that’s like, small.

Will last Tuesday’s big debate moment become Monday night’s big debate topic? Tuesday’s moment came when the candidates focused on the recent attack that killed the US ambassador to Libya and three others. As the Wall Street Journal’s conservative editorial page wrote: It was Mitt Romney’s “weakest moment.” The New York Time’s liberal editorial page concluded that Romney’s fumbling handling of the Libya issue was “the most devastating moment for Mr. Romney.” Now as the campaigns ready for the foreign policy debate, to be held Monday in Florida, the question is whether Romney returns to the question of Libya. One of my favorite movies of all time is Frank Capra's “It's A Wonderful Life,” starring Jimmy Stewart. (Snip) Like FDR, Obama has walked us back from the brink. He averted a depression, ended one war and put us on the path ending the other, rescued the auto industry, slowly building the sound footing necessary to have a sustained recovery — better, smarter regulation of those that brought this upon us, tax breaks to save a dwindling middle class,

A fire destroyed Big Tex this morning at the State Fair of Texas. The blaze was reported shortly after 10:30 a.m. at the fairgrounds in Dallas. “It’s a very sad day for all fair-goers,” fair spokeswoman Sue Gooding said. “We did lose the clothes, his hat and head,” she said. Allen Ferrell, who was visiting the fair with a church group from North Richland Hills, said the fire was short-lived. “Big Tex was done in about 10 minutes,” he said. Gooding said smoke was first seen coming from Big Tex’s neck, and she suspects the fire was electrical in nature.

President Obama is losing. So says the latest Gallup poll, and so do those swelling numbers in key states like Wisconsin, Florida, Virginia and Ohio. Democrats say wait, he won the second debate. They are holding their breath, hoping polls next week will show that this week's debate brought the herky-jerk of the campaign back full swing, with Obama back to his September lead in the swing states and poised to win. But with two weeks to go, a sudden surge in voter support for a president as unpopular as this one, in an economy this weak,

Analysts at the Media Research Center -- the parent organization of NewsBusters -- have found that both ABC and NBC continue to cover up President Obama’s lie about Libya during Tuesday night’s debate. In fact, neither network covered Libya at all during their evening broadcasts last night. Instead, both ABC and NBC followed the Obama campaign's theme of the day in emphasizing the effort to win over women voters. ABC touted Barbara Walters' "pointed question" about abortion posed to Ann Romney on The View, while NBC's Andrea Mitchell talked about Mitt Romney's "'binders full of women'

Bill Clinton has conceded that Mitt Romney is correct that the economy is 'not fixed' and said he thought Barack Obama was going to cry during Tuesday's debate 'because he knows that it's not fixed'. Former president Clinton, speaking in Parma, Ohio, during a campaign event with Bruce Springsteen, immediately added that Obama offered a better plan than Romney for getting out of the rut during the next four years. But his frank admission about the state of the economy was immediately seized on by the Romney campaign as bolstering the republican argument that a change of

A left-wing magazine contends Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential nominee, and his wife, Ann, made at least $15.3 mil- lion from the auto bailout and federal loans given to Delphi. The Nation, a liberal magazine, published a lengthy online article Thursday outlining what it contends are benefits Romney collected from a hedge-fund company that received bailout money. Democrats were quick to pounce on Romney.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says in a new interview that she can’t stand “whining” by women who are unhappy with the work and family choices they’ve made in life and complain that they have no options. Clinton, in the interview with Marie Claire, was discussing Anne-Marie Slaughter, a former director of policy planning at the State Department who left in 2011. This summer, Slaughter wrote a much-discussed cover story in the Atlantic — “Why Women Still Can’t Have It all” — about leaving her job because of the difficulty of balancing her work at State with the

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released its monthly Regional and State Employment and Unemployment report today showing a weakening economy in some key swing states. According to the BLS the key battleground state of Ohio lost 12,800 jobs in September while neighboring Michigan lost 13,000. The new data undercuts President Obama’s new claim that the economy is finally entering recovery. “We were losing 800,000 jobs a month,” Obama said in Athens, Ohio, Wednesday. “Now we’ve added more than 5 million new jobs, more manufacturing jobs than any time since the 1990s.”

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has finally cleared what many aides have long seen as his biggest hurdle: A majority of voters now like him. According to multiple polls, Romney's favorability rating has surged since the Republican National Convention and in most he equals or bests President Obama's favorables. And late Thursday, the Pew Research Center, the poll that has been toughest on Romney's favorability, released results showing that Romney is ahead of Obama by a point, 50 percent to 49 percent. That is a stunning turnaround from March, when Obama's favorable rating in Pew

After re-tweeting a tweet that declared as "stupid" any and all minorities and women who support a "racist/misogynist tw*t" named Mitt Romney, and then attempting to cover it up Anthony Weiner-style with a bizarre tweet blaming Twitter for "things in my timeline" -- actress and Obama campaign co-chair Eva Longoria is now learning something about accountability. This morning, Longoria was forced to tweet out an apology. Now her resignation from the Obama campaign has been called for. For high-profile Obama supporter, Alan Colmes, it looks as though Longoria's apology was too little and way too late. Link repaired by staff

Among likely voters surveyed, 51 percent support West and 42 percent back Murphy. Eight percent are undecided. The same poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling (PPP), found Mitt Romney leading President Barack Obama in District 18 by a 50 percent to 45 percent margin. The battle for the 18 th congressional district, which includes Martin, St. Lucie and northern Palm Beach counties, is one of the closest watched races in the country. The race has been characterized by a flood of advertising--most of which is coming from West who has outspent his Democratic challenger by 4-1.

WASHINGTON- Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan, responding to President Barack Obama's description of the response to a deadly attack in Libya as "not optimal," on Friday accused the White House of stonewalling in the face of mounting questions about its response. Obama promised to provide answers. "If four Americans get killed, it's not optimal," the president said Thursday during an appearance on "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central. "We're going to fix it." Obama's GOP rival, Mitt Romney, has been criticizing the administration for saying the attack was a spontaneous mob reaction to an anti-Muslim video on YouTube

BENGHAZI, Libya — Witnesses and the authorities have called Ahmed Abu Khattala one of the ringleaders of the Sept. 11 attack on the American diplomatic mission here. But just days after President Obama reasserted his vow to bring those responsible to justice, Mr. Abu Khattala spent two leisurely hours on Thursday evening at a crowded luxury hotel, sipping a strawberry frappe on a patio and scoffing at the threats coming from the American and Libyan governments.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hopes to be “cheering” for the country’s first female president, but said it absolutely will not be her. She said, as she has on numerous occasions, that she has no desire to remain in politics following her retirement this January in an interview with Marie Claire magazine that was published Thursday. “I hope to be around when we finally elect a woman president,” she said. “That would be a great experience for me, to be up there cheering." President Obama is taking heat from his Republican rivals and some members of his own party for being vague about his agenda for a second term. On Thursday, Republican vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan told a crowd at a campaign event in Florida that Obama “is not telling you what his second-term plan would be.” “He's not saying that he is offering anything new,” the Wisconsin lawmaker said during a town hall. “All he is offering is four more years of the same.” Republicans are using the critique to parry Democratic

Two days after his lackluster first debate performance, President Barack Obama's re-election hopes got a timely boost. The government's monthly jobless report for September showed the nation's unemployment rate fell below 8 percent for the first time since he took office. If that were the only metric that mattered, the president might credibly argue that the U.S. economy was finally on the right track. Unfortunately for him, and for the American people, he can't. It appears Alec Baldwin better keep his day job. According to a new NY1-Marist College poll, almost two thirds of New York City voters don't want the actor to run for mayor: Just six months ago, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn appeared to be breaking away from the pack of likely mayoral contenders. Now, her poll numbers are falling back to earth. 23 percent of the city’s registered Democrats support Quinn, according to the latest NY1-Marist College poll. That’s just eight points ahead of former City Comptroller Bill Thompson.

It is always stunning to learn the truths about certain elected officials in our government. In a startling revelation from Media Trackers Wisconsin, Rep. Tammy Baldwin co-sponsored legislation to block funding of body armor and medical supplies to our troops in combat. She did this during each of her terms in congress from 2003-2009. It was only in 2011 when Baldwin was considering her possible run for the U.S. Senate that her name does not appear as a co-sponsor on this legislation.
