Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has finally cleared what many aides have long seen as his biggest hurdle: A majority of voters now like him. According to multiple polls, Romney's favorability rating has surged since the Republican National Convention and in most he equals or bests President Obama's favorables. And late Thursday, the Pew Research Center, the poll that has been toughest on Romney's favorability, released results showing that Romney is ahead of Obama by a point, 50 percent to 49 percent. That is a stunning turnaround from March, when Obama's favorable rating in Pew

On the Kelly and Michael morning show today, First Lady Michelle Obama explained that it was difficult to sit silently during a presidential debate. “I compared it to the Olympic parents watching their kids on that balance beam,” she said. “Lots of clenching.” The First Lady said that she was really “moving around” in her seat during the second debate. “They really caution you to be be quiet and I try to follow the rules, so I don’t get in trouble,” she said. The First Lady was captured on camera during the second debate applauding with others in

After re-tweeting a tweet that declared as "stupid" any and all minorities and women who support a "racist/misogynist tw*t" named Mitt Romney, and then attempting to cover it up Anthony Weiner-style with a bizarre tweet blaming Twitter for "things in my timeline" -- actress and Obama campaign co-chair Eva Longoria is now learning something about accountability. This morning, Longoria was forced to tweet out an apology. Now her resignation from the Obama campaign has been called for. For high-profile Obama supporter, Alan Colmes, it looks as though Longoria's apology was too little and way too late. Link repaired by staff

Simple questions about the Benghazi attack and a US Ambassador dead. The story has been all over the news for 5 weeks. They know nothing. (Video follows)

Among likely voters surveyed, 51 percent support West and 42 percent back Murphy. Eight percent are undecided. The same poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling (PPP), found Mitt Romney leading President Barack Obama in District 18 by a 50 percent to 45 percent margin. The battle for the 18 th congressional district, which includes Martin, St. Lucie and northern Palm Beach counties, is one of the closest watched races in the country. The race has been characterized by a flood of advertising--most of which is coming from West who has outspent his Democratic challenger by 4-1.

WASHINGTON- Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan, responding to President Barack Obama's description of the response to a deadly attack in Libya as "not optimal," on Friday accused the White House of stonewalling in the face of mounting questions about its response. Obama promised to provide answers. "If four Americans get killed, it's not optimal," the president said Thursday during an appearance on "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central. "We're going to fix it." Obama's GOP rival, Mitt Romney, has been criticizing the administration for saying the attack was a spontaneous mob reaction to an anti-Muslim video on YouTube

BENGHAZI, Libya — Witnesses and the authorities have called Ahmed Abu Khattala one of the ringleaders of the Sept. 11 attack on the American diplomatic mission here. But just days after President Obama reasserted his vow to bring those responsible to justice, Mr. Abu Khattala spent two leisurely hours on Thursday evening at a crowded luxury hotel, sipping a strawberry frappe on a patio and scoffing at the threats coming from the American and Libyan governments.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hopes to be “cheering” for the country’s first female president, but said it absolutely will not be her. She said, as she has on numerous occasions, that she has no desire to remain in politics following her retirement this January in an interview with Marie Claire magazine that was published Thursday. “I hope to be around when we finally elect a woman president,” she said. “That would be a great experience for me, to be up there cheering." You can take the Southie out of Boston, but you can’t take the Boston out of the Southie, if Thursday night’s The Last Word is any indication. In what can only be described as a masterful hybrid of political essay and one-man dramatic character study, host Lawrence O’Donnell delivered an epic rebuttal to Tagg Romney‘s violent impulses toward President Obama, and indeed, to the entire Romney family. O’Donnell began the segment as the erudite man of letters his viewers know him to be, and ended it as an amalgam of several of

President Obama is taking heat from his Republican rivals and some members of his own party for being vague about his agenda for a second term. On Thursday, Republican vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan told a crowd at a campaign event in Florida that Obama “is not telling you what his second-term plan would be.” “He's not saying that he is offering anything new,” the Wisconsin lawmaker said during a town hall. “All he is offering is four more years of the same.” Republicans are using the critique to parry Democratic

Two days after his lackluster first debate performance, President Barack Obama's re-election hopes got a timely boost. The government's monthly jobless report for September showed the nation's unemployment rate fell below 8 percent for the first time since he took office. If that were the only metric that mattered, the president might credibly argue that the U.S. economy was finally on the right track. Unfortunately for him, and for the American people, he can't. It appears Alec Baldwin better keep his day job. According to a new NY1-Marist College poll, almost two thirds of New York City voters don't want the actor to run for mayor: Just six months ago, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn appeared to be breaking away from the pack of likely mayoral contenders. Now, her poll numbers are falling back to earth. 23 percent of the city’s registered Democrats support Quinn, according to the latest NY1-Marist College poll. That’s just eight points ahead of former City Comptroller Bill Thompson.

It is always stunning to learn the truths about certain elected officials in our government. In a startling revelation from Media Trackers Wisconsin, Rep. Tammy Baldwin co-sponsored legislation to block funding of body armor and medical supplies to our troops in combat. She did this during each of her terms in congress from 2003-2009. It was only in 2011 when Baldwin was considering her possible run for the U.S. Senate that her name does not appear as a co-sponsor on this legislation. Add it to the annals of stimulus waste. A local Michigan television station reports that workers at LG Chem, a lithium-ion battery plant that received over $150 million stimulus dollars, have so little to do that they spend their days playing cards and board games, reading magazines and watching movies. And they have yet to make a single battery. An LG Chem employee told the station, “there would be up to 40 of us that would just sit in there during the day.” That’s funny, because President Obama told those same workers back in

It is no secret that President Obama’s and green-energy supporters’ (from both parties) foray into venture capitalism has not gone well. But the extent of its failure has been largely ignored by the press. Sure, single instances garner attention as they happen, but they ignore past failures in order to make it seem like a rare case. The truth is that the problem is widespread. The government’s picking winners and losers in the energy market has cost taxpayers billions of dollars, and the rate of failure, cronyism, and corruption at the companies receiving the subsidies is substantial.

It was arguably Ronald Reagan’s favorite joke. In one version, two kids — one an optimist, the other a pessimist — rush downstairs on Christmas morning. The pessimistic kid gets a new bike and weeps that he’ll probably break it soon. The optimistic kid is presented with an enormous pile of manure and squeals with delight: “There’s got to be a pony in here somewhere!” In fact, the joke took on a life of its own in the Reagan White House. Whenever bad news came in, someone would remark, “There’s got to be a pony in there somewhere.” Barack Obama

The expanding food stamp program that now "feeds" nearly 47 million Americans is rife with fraud, abuse and cronyism, according to a new study as reported by Breitbart: Understaffed food stamp fraud prevention units and lax anti-fraud security on Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards have created a thriving underground market where food stamp recipients illegally sell and trade their taxpayer-funded benefits, often using online websites like Backpage.com, Craigslist, or social media. That is one of the findings of a new report by the Government Accountability Institute (GAI) examining how the poverty industry has become a massive profit center

The debate was another win for Governor Mitt Romney, but it also broke down President Barack Obama’s character and showed America a little bit behind the mask. He does not do well when he loses control. Cracks started at the beginning, but it finally broke during the assault weapons question. Governor Romney had the nerve to bring up Operation Fast & Furious, the government gun walking operation that placed 2,000 weapons into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. These guns are linked to the deaths of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and 300+ Mexican citizens. There was

Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D) criticized Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) for the tightening race he's found himself in, repeating statements other Democrats have more privately made that Casey has allowed Republican Tom Smith into the race by not campaigning hard enough "Casey? He hasn't run a campaign. He's run one ad, a stupid Tea Party ad," Rendell told the Scranton Times-Tribune. "The Tea Party ad isn't bad, but that's all they've run. They've run a non-campaign up until now and Smith has put a lot of money into the campaign. ... You start spending money, that'll change."

At 10:30 this morning on the World Trade Center grounds, a memorial will be dedicated — a statue commemorating a unique and proud chapter in our nation’s response to 9/11. Eleven years ago today, 36 US Special Forces soldiers landed at night in a blizzard in Afghanistan. They proceeded to rendezvous with Northern Alliance forces under Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum and in 30 short days to overthrow the Taliban. In radio contact with the Pentagon, the Americans were asked what goods they needed. The answer: saddles. For the first time in generations, these US troops were waging war on horseback.

The Obama team is showing signs if stress. VP Joe Biden is out gaffe-making again. The president goes on Jon Stewart’s Daily Show and says, “When four Americans get killed, it’s not optimal.” (Oh. My. Goodness.) He is falling behind in state and national polls. So is it time for Democrats to panic? Well, many signs point that way. Mitt Romney is now leading President Obama nationally in the RealClearPolitics average. He is over 50 percent in Gallup. No candidate over 50 percent in Gallup

The $831,000,000,000 economic “stimulus” that President Obama spearheaded and signed into law requires his administration to release quarterly reports on its effects. But “the most transparent administration in the history of our country” is now four reports behind schedule and has so far not released any reports whatsoever in 2012. Its most recent quarterly report is for the quarter than ended on June 30, 2011.

Cuba: The media were quick to praise Cuba's "liberalizing" move to scrap exit visas for Cubans who want out. In reality, all the signs are pointing to a Cuba raring to dump a new wave of refugees onto U.S. shores. The communist government announced Tuesday that an exit visa would no longer be required for most Cubans to leave the country as of Jan. 14. The media's instant reaction was that the move was another sign of liberalization under the helm of Raul Castro, who wants to patch things up with Cuba's vast diaspora of emigres.
