It is always stunning to learn the truths about certain elected officials in our government. In a startling revelation from Media Trackers Wisconsin, Rep. Tammy Baldwin co-sponsored legislation to block funding of body armor and medical supplies to our troops in combat. She did this during each of her terms in congress from 2003-2009. It was only in 2011 when Baldwin was considering her possible run for the U.S. Senate that her name does not appear as a co-sponsor on this legislation. From Media Trackers: The Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate co-sponsored legislation in every session

Add it to the annals of stimulus waste. A local Michigan television station reports that workers at LG Chem, a lithium-ion battery plant that received over $150 million stimulus dollars, have so little to do that they spend their days playing cards and board games, reading magazines and watching movies. And they have yet to make a single battery. An LG Chem employee told the station, “there would be up to 40 of us that would just sit in there during the day.” That’s funny, because President Obama told those same workers back in

It is no secret that President Obama’s and green-energy supporters’ (from both parties) foray into venture capitalism has not gone well. But the extent of its failure has been largely ignored by the press. Sure, single instances garner attention as they happen, but they ignore past failures in order to make it seem like a rare case. The truth is that the problem is widespread. The government’s picking winners and losers in the energy market has cost taxpayers billions of dollars, and the rate of failure, cronyism, and corruption at the companies receiving the subsidies is substantial.

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney had some harsh words for the media at the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation dinner Thursday. "I recognize that they have their job to do, and I have my job to do. My job is to lay out a positive vision for the future of the country, and their job is to make sure no one else finds out about it" (video follows with transcript and commentary): MITT ROMNEY: Of course rules of fairness have to be enforced, because what other safeguard do we have, besides the press

It was arguably Ronald Reagan’s favorite joke. In one version, two kids — one an optimist, the other a pessimist — rush downstairs on Christmas morning. The pessimistic kid gets a new bike and weeps that he’ll probably break it soon. The optimistic kid is presented with an enormous pile of manure and squeals with delight: “There’s got to be a pony in here somewhere!” In fact, the joke took on a life of its own in the Reagan White House. Whenever bad news came in, someone would remark, “There’s got to be a pony in there somewhere.” Barack Obama

The expanding food stamp program that now "feeds" nearly 47 million Americans is rife with fraud, abuse and cronyism, according to a new study as reported by Breitbart: Understaffed food stamp fraud prevention units and lax anti-fraud security on Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards have created a thriving underground market where food stamp recipients illegally sell and trade their taxpayer-funded benefits, often using online websites like Backpage.com, Craigslist, or social media. That is one of the findings of a new report by the Government Accountability Institute (GAI) examining how the poverty industry has become a massive profit center

The debate was another win for Governor Mitt Romney, but it also broke down President Barack Obama’s character and showed America a little bit behind the mask. He does not do well when he loses control. Cracks started at the beginning, but it finally broke during the assault weapons question. Governor Romney had the nerve to bring up Operation Fast & Furious, the government gun walking operation that placed 2,000 weapons into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. These guns are linked to the deaths of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and 300+ Mexican citizens. There was

Regular readers here will know of our fascination with political history, and the lessons it often offers for the present and beyond. The unlikely and yet strangely appealing coincidental appearance Thursday evening of both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama at the 67th annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner in New York City is too tempting to pass up a recollection of this Smith fellow. And share the candidates' crisp one-liners.

Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D) criticized Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) for the tightening race he's found himself in, repeating statements other Democrats have more privately made that Casey has allowed Republican Tom Smith into the race by not campaigning hard enough "Casey? He hasn't run a campaign. He's run one ad, a stupid Tea Party ad," Rendell told the Scranton Times-Tribune. "The Tea Party ad isn't bad, but that's all they've run. They've run a non-campaign up until now and Smith has put a lot of money into the campaign. ... You start spending money, that'll change."

At 10:30 this morning on the World Trade Center grounds, a memorial will be dedicated — a statue commemorating a unique and proud chapter in our nation’s response to 9/11. Eleven years ago today, 36 US Special Forces soldiers landed at night in a blizzard in Afghanistan. They proceeded to rendezvous with Northern Alliance forces under Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum and in 30 short days to overthrow the Taliban. In radio contact with the Pentagon, the Americans were asked what goods they needed. The answer: saddles. For the first time in generations, these US troops were waging war on horseback.

The Obama team is showing signs if stress. VP Joe Biden is out gaffe-making again. The president goes on Jon Stewart’s Daily Show and says, “When four Americans get killed, it’s not optimal.” (Oh. My. Goodness.) He is falling behind in state and national polls. So is it time for Democrats to panic? Well, many signs point that way. Mitt Romney is now leading President Obama nationally in the RealClearPolitics average. He is over 50 percent in Gallup. No candidate over 50 percent in Gallup

The $831,000,000,000 economic “stimulus” that President Obama spearheaded and signed into law requires his administration to release quarterly reports on its effects. But “the most transparent administration in the history of our country” is now four reports behind schedule and has so far not released any reports whatsoever in 2012. Its most recent quarterly report is for the quarter than ended on June 30, 2011.

Cuba: The media were quick to praise Cuba's "liberalizing" move to scrap exit visas for Cubans who want out. In reality, all the signs are pointing to a Cuba raring to dump a new wave of refugees onto U.S. shores. The communist government announced Tuesday that an exit visa would no longer be required for most Cubans to leave the country as of Jan. 14. The media's instant reaction was that the move was another sign of liberalization under the helm of Raul Castro, who wants to patch things up with Cuba's vast diaspora of emigres.

WASHINGTON — The CIA station chief in Libya reported to Washington within 24 hours of last month's deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate that there was evidence it was carried out by militants, not a spontaneous mob upset about an American-made video ridiculing Islam's Prophet Muhammad, U.S. officials have told The Associated Press. It is unclear who, if anyone, saw the cable outside the CIA at that point and how high up in the agency the information went. The Obama administration maintained publicly for a week that the attack on the diplomatic mission in Benghazi that killed U.S.

Ambassador Susan Rice has been roundly criticized of late for her comments made on five Sunday morning talk shows the weekend after the Benghazi tragedy in which four Americans lost their lives to a terrorist attack. Because Rice stated her belief that the violence was the result of a mass demonstration gone bad, rather than the planned extremist attacks we now know them to be, some have even gone so far as to demand her resignation from her current cabinet position as United States ambassador to the United Nations.

The presidential debates this year have been more consequential than such debates have ever been. They've been historic, shifting the mood and trajectory of the race. They've been revealing of the personalities and approaches of the candidates. And they've produced a new way in which winners and losers are judged. It's a two-part wave now, the debate and the postdebate, and you have to win both. In a way this has always been true. That's why there are spin rooms. But this year it's all more so—more organic, more spontaneous and powerful. And everyone knows what spin is.

At least one person has been killed and several others injured in a suspected car bomb attack in the centre of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, reports say. The explosion badly damaged several buildings in Sassine Square, in the city's Ashrafiya district. It is not clear if an individual was targeted. Several ambulances have been seen rushing to square and witnesses spoke of seeing at least one body. Tensions in Lebanon have been rising as a result of the conflict in Syria.

"Ghazi" means "great warrior" in Arabic. The name "bin ghazi" means "the tribe of ghazi."(snip)Obama is in denial of what every Muslim knows. The message is clear, but Washington just hopes it will go away if we pretend hard enough, like little children. That is why our administration and media have been lying about Benghazi and Cairo for the last month, and why those assaults by battalion-size AQ forces equipped with mortars, RPGs, and possibly anti-aircraft MANPADS are so important.

President Obama's stump speech Thursday at Veterans Memorial Park in Manchester, N.H., was much like the speeches he's given across battleground states in the last few weeks. Listen to it, and you'll hear the short version of what the president promises to accomplish in a second term. It's not much. "I will not be satisfied until everybody who wants to work hard can find a job," the president told the crowd. To make that happen, he promised to do five things. First, he would "send fewer jobs overseas [and] sell more products overseas."

The attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi may have been part of a broader campaign to drive the U.S. and western presence -- and particularly a growing CIA contingent -- out of eastern Libya, two military sources told Fox News. The Sept. 11 attack was preceded by hundreds of security incidents in Libya over the past year. Several of them involved western targets in the Benghazi area, which could indicate a pattern. The attack on the U.S. Consulate in June 6 with an improvised explosive device,

President Barack Obama says his friendship with hip-hop royals Jay-Z and Beyonce is nothing out of the ordinary. "They’re good people,” Obama told Colby Colb of Cleveland Z107.9. “…Obviously they’re unbelievably successful, but they really are down-to-earth folks. And we talk about the same things I talk about with all my friends."That includes offering first-time dad Jay-Z parenting advice, POTUS said: "They just had a new baby. …I made sure that Jay-Z was helping Beyonce out and not leaving it all to mom and the mother-in-law." Obama befriended the stars when "they were supporters back in '08," he explained.

Perhaps it’s because many of us watched the Disney classic Dumbo as a child that we all seem to have a special place in our hearts for elephants, especially baby ones. That’s what makes this latest video from elephant research and conservation project Amboseli Trust for Elephants--which has now started to trend on the internet--so special. An eight-month-old calf became stuck in a shallow well in the parched grounds of Amboseli national park in Kenya--while its increasingly anxious mother, Zombe, looked on, powerless to help. Luckily, the Trust got word of the incident and sent two jeeps

Sometimes the President can be very odd indeed. In a pre-recorded interview with The Daily Show on Thursday night, host Jon Stewart asked Obama what he thought about the deaths of 4 Americans during the September 11 attack on the US embassy in Benghazi, Libya. The President replied that it was “not optimal.” He was picking up on a sound bite used earlier by Stewart, but he could just as easily have stolen it from a Dalek. It’s an incredibly cold, robotic and insensitive way to describe a human tragedy.[Snip] Is this Obama’s Dukakis moment? During the 1988

Shortly after Obamacare was passed and signed by the President, Michael Tanner of the Cato Institute noted a sudden plethora of articles that had begun to appear in a wide variety of MSM outlets about the probable ill-effects of "reform." This prompted him to ask, "Where were these reporters before the passage of the health care bill?" The answer to this question is now pretty obvious. They were colluding, via JournoList and other such forums that we don't know about, to make sure that no one screwed up and told the truth
