President Obama dropped by The Daily Show earlier today for an interview scheduled to air later tonight. One of the exchanges that has been already highlighted by news reports was Jon Stewart bringing up the attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and the administration’s mixed responses to it. Obama told Stewart that “four Americans get[ting] killed… is not optimal,” and pushed back on the idea that there was any confusion over the cause of the attacks. (Snip) Stewart argued that the way the administration handled the issue was “not the optimal response.” Obama acknowledged that

Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill’s husband used the U.S. Senate Dining Room to cut business deals selling tax credits tied to stimulus money, a whistle-blowing executive inside his company alleged on an audio recording exclusively obtained by The Daily Caller. “The thing that irritated me about this was he [McCaskill’s husband Joseph Shepard] entertained these outside investors in the Senate Dining Room,” the whistle-blower said. “That’s where he closed the deal.” The whistle-blower, Craig Woods, was a longtime high-ranking official within Shepard’s business empire, serving first as chief financial

President Barack Obama joked that his vice president looked good in a swimsuit and said screw-ups can happen in government as he discussed the Libya controversy, mixing comedy and serious issues in an appearance on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart." In a appeal to young voters, Obama largely played it straight in his sixth appearance on the liberal-leaning comedy show, which enjoys a broad following among younger viewers. He touted the steps he had taken to lower college costs and expand rights for gays and lesbians and warned

In a memo obtained by TMZ, CNN Managing Editor Mark Whitaker has taken to defending CNN anchor Candy Crowley’s performance as the moderator of the second presidential debate by attacking her critics. Whitaker said “Romney supporters” are just upset that “their man,” GOP nominee Mitt Romney, had a less decisive debate performance than he did in Denver. (Snip) Crowley’s critics primarily objected to the State of the Nation anchor defending President Barack Obama during Tuesday’s debate when she said that the president had declared the 9/11/12 attack in Libya an act of terror the day after the event.

Critics have tried to make something out of nothing regarding Mitt Romney's "binder" statement regarding women. (Snip) According to blog site Boker tov, Boulder!, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) passed on a collection of 45 Muslim potential hires to President Obama. The effort to match these 45 individuals with jobs inside the administration was moving slowly and quietly until White House officials recently sped the process up. Said J. Saleh Williams, program director for the Congressional Muslim Staffers Association: "It was mostly under the radar. We thought it would put the president in a precarious position. We didn't know

The two presidential candidates took a break from the caustic criticism of the campaign trail to score political points with biting humor last night in New York City. President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney peeled off the stump Thursday to attend the annual Al Smith Dinner at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. During presidential election years, the event brings the candidates to the same stage to trade barbs and self-deprecating zingers as the race enter its final weeks. The white-tie affair raises millions for the Gov. Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation and is organized by the Catholic Archdiocese of New York

Athens - Vanna Mendaleni is a middle aged Greek woman who until now has not had vehement feelings about the crisis that has engulfed her country. But that changed when the softly spoken undertaker, closing her family-run funeral parlour, joined thousands of protesters on Thursday in a mass outpouring of fury over austerity policies that have plunged ever growing numbers of Greeks into poverty and fear. "After three years of non-stop taxes and wage cuts it's got to the point where nothing has been left standing," she said drawing on a cigarette. "It's so bad families can no longer

Two days after his lackluster first debate performance, President Barack Obama's re-election hopes got a timely boost. The government's monthly jobless report for September showed the nation's unemployment rate fell below 8 percent for the first time since he took office. If that were the only metric that mattered, the president might credibly argue that the U.S. economy was finally on the right track. Unfortunately for him, and for the American people, he can't. Economic growth, three years into the recovery, is anemic. Family incomes are down, poverty is up.

In Tuesday’s debate, President Barack Obama proclaimed he was offended by any suggestion that politics influenced his administration’s account of the attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya. Well, Obama can shout his anger to the rooftops, but that doesn’t relieve him of accountability for his handling of the Benghazi incident. The U.S. ambassador there and three other Americans are dead. The account of what happened and why offered by administration officials was obviously wrong virtually from day one. This should be an important area for full discussion — prompted not just by Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s questions

Thursday’s Gallup tracking poll giving Republican nominee Mitt Romney a seven-point lead over President Barack Obama sent shock waves throughout the political world. It also may have dampened the outlook of a few Democrats just weeks before the presidential election. On Fox News Channel’s “The Five” on Thursday, Bob Beckel, the show’s lone liberal, said the election is over if the poll is accurate. “If I were looking at the numbers and managing the campaign, I would be upset,” Beckel said. “I’m not sure panic. But if the numbers are correct, it’s over. It is over.

Washington - For lovers of canine companions, one may be getting more than just unconditional affection from those sloppy dog kisses. A new study published in the journal Archives of Oral Biology found that dog owners had a higher rate of a certain disease-causing bacteria in their mouths. So those who are turned off by the sticky mess may have more evidence to back their stance. Japanese researchers examined dental plaque from 66 dogs and 81 people who came to an animal clinic or training school in 2011. They found "periodontopathic bacteria" -- the microscopic little guys

The National Republican Congressional Committee on Thursday launched a contest for people to come up with a taunting message for Nancy Pelosi that will be driven around her downtown San Francisco district office all day on a roving billboard before the election. “Yes, we’re serious. What do you want to tell Nancy?” the committee says on its website for the contest, #LOLaPelosi, targeting the Democratic House leader. The way the contest works, according to the NRCC, is that they will measure the popularity of each 100-character submitted message through social media and their website.

Manchester. N.H. - As Mitt Romney gains ground in crucial states like Florida and Virginia, President Barack Obama is taking steps to shore up support in smaller battlegrounds that could prove decisive in a razor-close race. That’s because if Romney can’t put Ohio in his column — the Buckeye State has so far proved stubbornly immune to the Republican’s gains elsewhere — he’ll need to win most of the remaining swing states to capture the presidency. (Snip) The president is essentially adding mortar to his firewall. “We think we have a lead in New Hampshire,” said David Plouffe, one of

Mitt Romney has all but erased President Obama's lead on foreign policy issues in the aftermath of the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya, according to a Pew poll released Thursday. Obama's lead on foreign policy has plummeted by 11 points since the outbreak of violence in the Middle East that culminated with the death of four Americans in Libya on Sept. 11, according to Pew. The president holds a slim 47 percent to 43 percent edge over his GOP rival on the issue of who would do a better job on foreign policy, down from a 15-point advantage

When it comes to the presidential candidates' pensions, size matters in more ways than one.Retirement packages sparked one of a series of confrontations during the Tuesday debate between President Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney. The exchange took place during a discussion of China policy, with the president accusing the former Massachusetts governor of hypocrisy when it came to tough talk against the nation that boasts the world's second-largest economy.

A new poll shows Republican Mitt Romney leading in Pennsylvania, a state that Republicans had all but written off just weeks ago but which is now listed as a toss up by the Real Clear Politics website. Susquehanna Polling and Research provided The Washington Examiner with a poll it conducted for state party officials that shows Romney with a 49 percent to 45 percent lead over President Obama. It's the first poll to show Romney leading among likely voters in the Keystone State. "The polling is very clear that the race is certainly up for grabs and Republicans

Coal miners in southeastern Ohio are blasting an ad from President Obama that claims they were forced to "be props in (Mitt) Romney's commercial." (Snip) A group of 500 miners has now penned a letter and released a video insisting that no one was forced to attend the rally and demanding that the Obama campaign disavow the ad. Republican Rep. Darrell Issa plans to press ahead with a subpoena for health department documents on a program he claims is being used to "buy" the election by hiding the effects of ObamaCare. The Department of Health and Human Services handed over reams of material just minutes before a 5 p.m. ET deadline Thursday in response to Issa's demand 24 hours earlier. However, Issa's office called the cache "embarrassing," insufficient and not responsive to the congressman's request. The subpoena is expected to go out Friday morning.

Most observers seem to agree that the Barack Obama–Mitt Romney–Candy Crowley debate over whether the attack on our Benghazi consulate resulted from terrorism was the low point for the Republican candidate. While Romney turned out to be right on the substance, he was clearly flustered by Crowley’s intervention in Obama’s favor on the question of the president had called the attack an act of terror the day after. An old-time political hand in D.C., whom I know and who has advised and worked on many campaigns, is utterly convinced that the exchange was a setup

SANA, Yemen — A drone fired on a group of people preparing to attack Yemeni troops on Thursday, killing at least nine, including a man identified as a leader of the local branch of Al Qaeda, according to Yemeni and security officials, who said the aircraft was American-operated. The strike took place less than a mile from a Yemeni brigade’s position in the southern province of Abyan, the officials said, adding that troops from the brigade found and defused an explosive belt that was wrapped around the waist of one of the dead, identified as Nader al-Shaddadi,
