The Romney campaign reached another milestone this afternoon. For the first time in the campaign, Romney now leads in RealClearPolitic's electoral map. Previously, Obama had a 10-vote edge, but RCP has now moved North Carolina from toss-up to "lean Romney." Romney now edges Obama 206-201 in the electoral college. The other 131 votes are rated "toss-up." Remember that the Democrats had high expectations for being competitive in North Carolina. They even convened their national convention there, confident

America's two top pollsters, Gallup and Rasmussen, both increased Romney's lead over Obama in the wake of the second presidential debate. With a one-third post-debate sample, today's Rasmussen has Romney up 49-47% and Gallup's 7-day tracker has Romney up 52-45%. Romney gained a point in both. Most everyone was expecting Gallup to tighten today, including me. And you just know the Democrats and the media prayed to Gaia for a little movement their way. Yesterday, I offered one possible explanation

At a campaign rally in Las Vegas this afternoon, Vice President Biden unveiled the second act of the GOPs plan for the middle class – the first, of course, being to “put y’all back in chains.” According to the pool report of the event, Biden told the crowd: Ryan has written a book called ‘The Young Guns’ with two other fellas, members of the House, Republican leaders in the House and you had unfortunately the bullets are aimed at you. These guys talk — they use phrases —

It has taken more than four weeks, but the facts of the assault on the American consulate in Benghazi are slowly emerging. It is now known that on the evening of September 11, 2012, Ambassador Christopher Stevens conducted a scheduled meeting with a Turkish diplomat. At approximately 8:30 PM, the ambassador saw his visitor out the gate. There were no protesters in front of the consulate then, nor did any of the survivors of the attack report the presence of demonstrators prior to the initial assault. Videotapes recovered from the compound show, at least partially, what happened.

This Pew Research Center poll was conducted the weekend after the first debate, but the overview was just released today. It found that Mitt Romney has significantly cut into President Obama’s 15-point lead on foreign policy, and now trails by just four points: The national survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, conducted Oct. 4-7, 2012 among 1,511 adults, including 1,201 registered voters, finds that Barack Obama and Mitt Romney run about even on most foreign policy issues. On the question of who can do a better job making wise decisions

If authentic, CNN’s memo explaining why Candy Crowley permitted President Obama to speak four minutes more than Mitt Romney during Tuesday’s presidential debate is devastating to that network: On why Obama got more time to speak, it should be noted that Candy and her commission producers tried to keep it even but that Obama went on longer largely because he speaks more slowly. We’re going to do a word count to see whether, as in Denver, Romney actually got more words in even if he talked for a shorter period of time.

Economic sanctions on Iran have failed in their “principal objective” of preventing Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons, according to a nonpartisan study by the Congressional Research Service (CRS). Sanctions “have not stopped Iran from building up its conventional military and missile capabilities, in large part with indigenous skills,” according to the report, which was released earlier this week. (Snip) “Iran is also judged [to be] not complying with U.N. requirements that it halt any weapons shipments outside its borders, particularly with regard to purported Iranian weapons shipments to help the embattled Asad [sic] government in Syria,” the report states.

PARMA, Ohio - Former President Bill Clinton says Republicans have tried to keep the nation's unemployment rate high for political gain. Campaigning in Ohio for President Barack Obama, Clinton says the GOP was "crushed" when the jobless rate fell to 7.8 percent last month. He says Republicans nearly managed to keep it above 8 percent "all the way to the election. But they failed." Clinton didn't say specifically what he thought Republicans had done to try to keep unemployment above 8 percent. The former president also criticized some Republicans who suggested the most recent unemployment figures were rigged.

Planned Parenthood marked its 96th anniversary on October 16, and Jim Sedlak of the American Life League noted that over the past 42 years the abortion giant has been responsible for the deaths of over six million pre-born babies, all the while collecting millions of dollars in federal funding. “In 2010, Planned Parenthood did 27 percent of all the abortions in the United States,” (Snip) “Minority communities are the number one targets of Planned Parenthood,” said the Rev. Arnold Culbreath, director of Protecting Black Life. “It’s no wonder abortion remains the leading cause of death among African-Americans, higher than all

The failed solar-panel maker generated about $117 million from assets sales (Snip) The company incurred about $46 million in costs to achieve those sales, giving it about $71 million in net distributable assets. At a campaign event for Barack Obama's reelection campaign, Bill Clinton said that Mitt Romney's argument "is true, we're not fixed": "Governor Romney's argument is, we're not fixed, so fire him and put me in," said Clinton. "It is true we're not fixed. When President Obama looked into the eyes of that man who said in the debate, I had so much hope four years ago and I don't now, I thought he was going to cry. Because he knows that it's not fixed." Headline split by staff.

Illinois Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin, the second-ranking Democrat in the Senate, told The Daily Caller that “several” areas of President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act could be “improved” and acknowledged that a “bad result” of the law is that companies are cutting workers’ hours to avoid paying for their health insurance. For example, Darden Restaurants, which operates the Olive Garden and Red Lobster restaurants, is reportedly limiting employees’ hours due to the health care law’s regulations on businesses.

Tripoli, Libya - Medical officials say clashes between pro-government militias and fighters in a former stronghold of the late Libyan leader, Moammar Gadhafi, have killed at least six people. The officials said Thursday that nearly 80 people also have wounded in the fighting that began Wednesday in Bani Walid, some 140 kilometers (90 miles) southeast of Tripoli. The town was the last to fall to revolutionary fighters during Libya's civil war last year. But residents later expelled government forces and the town has since remained outside of state control.

Harry Belafonte has grudgingly decided to support President Obama’s reelection because he believes Mitt Romney will bring in an era of “unbridled capitalism.” “If unbridled capitalism prevails with the current electoral process, and Mitt Romney makes it, then I think we’re in for a terrible, terrible future,” Belafonte told The Huffington Post on Tuesday. “If he doesn’t make it, then I think we have a chance to look at the democratic institutions and be more sensitive to poverty, women’s issues, children, etc.” The optimism about Obama apparent at the end of that statement must have recently returned to Belafonte.

As “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg demonstrated on Thursday, sometimes it is a good idea to brush up on subject matter when you want to pose a “gotcha” question in the heat of a political campaign. Mistakenly believing that Mormons are forbidden from fighting, Goldberg asked Mitt Romney’s wife Ann Romney how she would comfort the families of fallen American soldiers should her husband become president. (Snip) “No, that’s not correct.” Ann Romney replied. “We have many, many members of our faith that are serving in armed services.”But that didn’t deter Goldberg, who said that she understood that Mitt Romney

St. Louis - The St. Louis Zoo will change a Halloween display of about 10 ghosts with black faces hanging from trees after complaints that it resembled lynchings. KMOV reported an outside vendor made and installed the decorations, which includes faceless ghosts with a light in the head. At night, the light shines through but during the day, the black faces are all that's visible. Spokesman Wyndel Hill says zoo officials decided after hearing some complaints to take the display down. He says the zoo did not intend to offend anyone.

AUSTIN, Texas—A judge says an East Texas school district policy barring cheerleaders from quoting biblical scripture on banners at high school football games appears to violate their free speech rights. KFDM television in Beaumont reports that District Judge Steve Thomas issued an injunction allowing the Kountze (KOONTZ) High School cheerleaders to continue displaying such banners pending the outcome of a lawsuit about the matter. He previously granted a temporary restraining order allowing the practice to continue. The school district ordered the cheerleaders to stop quoting Bible verses after receiving a complaint from the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Link repaired by staff.

Lawyers for Chicago rapper Chief Keef sparred with Cook County prosecutors Wednesday over whether to jail the Chicago rapper for probation violations stemming from three earlier delinquencies. Following a meteoric rise and a successful single (“I Don’t Like”) through Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. label, Keef was just signed to Interscope Records and has been in California recording tracks for a debut hip-hop album. Would jail time stall a promising career before it starts? Serving time hasn’t exactly slowed down some rappers’ careers. Hip-hop stars cycle in and out of jail, releasing albums while incarcerated. Before he did time for weapons charges,

President Barack Obama has been onstage with Mitt Romney now for a collective three hours and has yet to enunciate anything within hailing distance of a second-term agenda. He wants to “win the future,” he just doesn’t have a very clear idea about how to do it. His slogan is “forward,” but his campaign is unmistakably backward-looking. His case for reelection has about as much to do with the last four years of the Bush administration as the next four years of the prospective second Obama administration.
