An executive producer at New Hampshire Public Radio said Monday he made a mistake by editing the word “tax” out of a key answer given by Democrat Maggie Hassan during a September debate in a recent partial rebroadcast. Hassan supported RGGI, saying, “I was proud to be a sponsor of that tax — eh — the energy efficiency program because it has saved businesses millions and millions of dollars and created over 400 jobs.”

DENVER - A top campaign aide says that President Barack Obama takes responsibility for the consulate attack in Libya that killed four Americans. Deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter tells The Associated Press in a phone interview Tuesday that, quote, "every time an American dies abroad, everybody takes responsibility, from the top down." Asked whether that includes Obama, Cutter says, quote, "Absolutely ... He's the president of the United States." Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday that she was responsible for security at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi.

The Obama campaign, realizing that they are trailing in the national polls, is trotting out a new meme: Romney may be ahead nationally, but he’s losing in the swing states, particularly Ohio. Really? That’s curious. In every presidential election since 1980 except one, the state of Ohio has voted in higher numbers for the Republican candidate, sometimes significantly higher, than the national average. The only exception was in 2004, when George W. Bush had a 3.5% edge nationally, and a 2.1% edge in Ohio.Let’s look at the numbers: 2008: National average: Obama 52.87, McCain 45.60. Obama ahead 7.27 Ohio: Obama

Police have been forced to step in to break up a cat fight between Larry the Downing Street cat and Freya, First Moggy of the Treasury. The two felines were separated after engaging in a full-scale cat fight outside No 10, and retreated spitting to their respective political fiefdoms. Freyer the silver tabby appeared to have the best of the confrontation, when Larry, who has white and tabby markings, was ordered back inside No 10 to consider his behaviour, leaving the street free for his rival to stalk. It is not known what caused fur to fly between the feline

Anonymous has named a man it claims posted topless pictures of a 15-year-old girl online and harassed her so relentlessly that she killed herself. Amanda Todd, from Vancouver, Canada, was found hanged in her home on October 10, just weeks after she uploaded a video to YouTube detailing her horrific treatment at the hands of cyber bullies. (Snip) Now in a vigilante move, Anonymous, the world's largest hacking group, has named the man allegedly responsible for the picture. The group claims that he is a 32-year-old from British Columbia, but MailOnline has chosen not to identify him for legal reasons.

The Ukrainian navy is to deploy specially trained dolphins equipped with "pistols fixed to their heads" against possible enemy frogmen, according to reports. Russian newswire RIA Novosti broke the news last week, reporting from the naval base of Sevastopol on the Black Sea. This was formerly home to the Soviet Black Sea Fleet, which was acrimoniously divvied up between Russia and the new Ukrainian government on the fall of the Soviet Union. (Snip) RIA Novosti tells us: The killer-dolphins will be trained to attack enemy combat swimmers using special knives or pistols fixed to their heads Several exercises have reportedly

President Obama said Tuesday he is feeling “fabulous” about the prospects of the second presidential debate — a far cry from before the first debate, when he described preparations as “a drag.” During a photo-op with reporters just hours ahead of his face-off with GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, Obama was much more upbeat about their second showdown. “I feel fabulous,” Obama said, standing between his senior adviser David Plouffe and his former communications director, Anita Dunn. “Look at this beautiful day.”

About half of all likely voters would pick Mitt Romney for president if the 2012 presidential election were held today, while a little less than half would reelect President Obama, according to Gallup's daily tracking poll. In a new poll released Tuesday, Gallup found 50 percent of those polled said they would vote for Romney if the election were held today, and that 46 percent would vote for Obama. The pollster noted that Romney has consistently kept a small lead over the president in the Gallup seven-day rolling average in the aftermath of the first presidential debate at the beginning

During the vice presidential debate last week, Vice President Joe Biden seemed to significantly overstate his role in the 1983 negotiations over Social Security. Asked about Medicare reform, the vice president said, “Look, I was there when we did that with Social Security in 1983. I was one of eight people sitting in the room that included Tip O’Neill negotiating with President Reagan. Mel Gibson played a chauvinistic advertising executive in the movie “What Women Want” who had an accident that gave him the power to hear women’s thoughts and feelings. I don’t have that power, but I am going to speculate on what many women might want in a man — in this election cycle and more broadly. Again, this is just the humble opinion of one man (and I emphasize man) who grew up with four sisters, has a daughter, two ex-wives and three sons who have dated a broad variety of women. Figuring out what women want isn’t

Is Pennsylvania for the taking for Republicans next month? Tightening independent polls are giving hope to the GOP in Pennsylvania, although the presidential campaigns show no signs of bringing their candidates or TV ads back to the state. Instead, Pennsylvania's highest-profile politicians are finding themselves increasingly busy on the campaign trail, including Gov. Tom Corbett and U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, both Republicans, and former Gov. Ed Rendell, a Democrat. In State College on Monday night, Toomey made time for a crowd of several dozen at a Centre County Republican Party dinner

Proving Mitt Romney's momentum in the swing states is real, a new American Research Group (ARG) poll found Romney and President Obama tied at 48% in Iowa in a D+1 poll. Last month, before Romney dominated Obama in their first presidential debate, Obama led by 7 points in the ARG poll of Iowa, a state Obama won by nearly 10 points in 2008. Romney leads by 4 points among independents in the new poll, which surveyed 600 likely voters October 11-14 and has a margin of error of +/- 3.5%.

If Romney wins, will lobbyists defile the White House that Obama has kept so clean and so pure? That’s what Politico suggests with this piece today headlined “Lobbyists ready for a comeback under Romney.” President Barack Obama’s gone further than any president to keep lobbyists out of the White House — even signing executive orders to do it. In crafting and signing those executive orders, I wonder if Obama relied on the help of White House deputy counsel Cassandra Butts (1), White House special assistant Martha Coven (2), or the chief of staff or the White

“The situation is very serious. Some business leaders are in a state of quasi-panic,” said Laurence Parisot, head of employers’ group MEDEF. “The pace of bankruptcies has accelerated over the summer. We are seeing a general loss of confidence by investors. Large foreign investors are shunning France altogether. It’s becoming really dramatic.” MEDEF, France’s equivalent of the CBI, said the threat has risen from “a storm warning to a hurricane warning”, adding that the Socialist government of François Hollande has yet to understand the “extreme gravity” of the crisis.

Hempstead, N.Y. — Before that memorable Denver showdown with President Barack Obama, Mitt Romney spent hours holding mock debates. He’d put on a dark suit, stand at a lectern in a hotel ballroom, and play-act with Senator Rob Portman of Ohio, who has been impersonating Democratic nominees in debate preparation since the Clinton years. To the surprise of Romney insiders, those sessions were inspired. Romney was good, and he thoroughly enjoyed the 90-minute run-throughs. Instead of merely reviewing material with his aides, as he did before the Republican-primary debates, Romney had a live foil,

LYNCHBURG, VA -- Amid questions and criticisms related to Paul Ryan’s visit this weekend to an Ohio soup kitchen, the charity’s president said the Republican vice presidential candidate did, in fact, scrub dirty dishes though his visit wasn’t officially sanctioned. The question of whether the Wisconsin congressman cleaned dishes that were actually dirty – as opposed to re-washing already clean dishes so as to get a good photo opportunity -- Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society President Brian Antal clarified that Ryan did clean soiled dishes. This differs from what Antal had told The Washington Post Monday.

A few weeks ago, I inveighed against the increasingly Orwellian psychological tactics being employed by the Obama campaign. It didn't seem like things could get much worse than asking you to upload photos of your personal pledges to the president, and smart phone apps that show maps telling you the political affiliation of your neighbors. I was wrong. So very, very wrong. Here's the email I recently got from the Obama campaign: According to our records associated with this email address -- hopefully it's yours if you're reading this! --

For a political perspective that claims to love peace and tolerance, left-wing Democrats sure seem to be a rather angry lot. History repeated itself just a few days later when outraged Democrats lashed out at journalist and author Buzz Bissinger for doing the same thing. Things were a bit different this time because in addition to people savaging him on Twitter, Bissinger also found himself being called a “traitor” by his supposedly objective media industry colleagues.
