Secretary of State Hillary Clinton fell on her sword on Monday and took "responsibility" for the lack of security in Libya leading up the terrorist attacks. In response, Republican Senators John McCain (AZ), Lindsay Graham (SC), and Kelly Ayotte (NH) said while Clinton made a "laudable gesture" with her remarks, the buck still stopped with President Barack Obama at the White House. The Senators, in a statement, said if Obama had not been aware of the rising threat level in the Middle East, especially in Libya, then they have "lost confidence" in the administration's national security team.

HAVANA — The Cuban government announced Tuesday that it will no longer require islanders to apply for an exit visa, eliminating a much-loathed bureaucratic procedure that has been a major impediment for many seeking to travel overseas. A notice published in Communist Party newspaper Granma said Cubans will also not have to present a letter of invitation to travel abroad when the rule change takes effect Jan. 13, and beginning on that date islanders will only have to show their passport and a visa from the country they are traveling to.

During an Oct. 14 appearance on Meet the Press, former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D) tried to take the heat off Obama/Biden by claiming that the requests for security in Libya were not made for Benghazi but for Tripoli. One day later (October 15), retired U.S. Army Major Mike Faessler responded to Granholm's inaccurate claim with the following email: Gov Granholm: Just so you know - you are 100% incorrect in your statement. That's a polite way of saying that a) you have your head up your ass..and b) you either have no clue what you are talking about,

Tonight’s town hall-style presidential debate will ostensibly feature questions from undecided voters, but the evening’s agenda will really be decided by the moderator, as CNN’s Candy Crowley will select which of the more than roughly 80 voters in the room will actually get a chance to talk to the candidates. Reviewing the five previous town hall debates, the journalist-moderators have tended to skew the agenda of these so-called citizen forums to the liberal side of the spectrum, but not always. In 2004, ABC’s Charles Gibson selected a balanced menu of questions, with questions from the left matching those

The entire Power Line team has noted here before (several times, in fact) the similarities (and differences) between the 1980 election and this year, especially how Ronald Reagan blew open a close race in part because of a strong debate performance. There’s one other parallel that might take shape over the next few days, especially if Obama has another weak debate performance tonight: the media might start to turn on him. This happened in 1980, when the media turned on Jimmy Carter for his campaign mis-steps, especially his “meanness,” that is, Carter’s nasty side

Documents detailing multiple legal threats from the AFL-CIO and Florida Democratic Party operatives indicate a new effort to keep citizens from acting as election observers and assisting in the maintenance of their local voter rolls. Two Florida voters were in receipt of a letter last week threatening legal action should they “frivolously” challenge voter registration records, or as election workers in the polls. Unfortunately for the union, no justification for the threats could be given. Worse, Florida election code and federal law gives clear guidance for citizens to offer challenges to voter rolls keeping dead, duplicate, or

Savitz at Forbes relays news this morning that "A123 Systems has filed for bankruptcy protection in federal court ... Late yesterday, the battery company had warned that it was about to default on several loan issues, noting that a bankruptcy filing was a possibility; but it still seems startling to see them file just hours later." What does (or did) A123 do? It "makes rechargeable lithium-ion batteries for electric cars." Savitz can't resist casting the bankruptcy in political terms in his third paragraph: Don’t be surprised to see this turn into a Solyndra-style political football;

NEW YORK- A Republican-leaning independent group supporting Mitt Romney's presidential bid is spending $11.1 million on new television ads aimed at women. The ad campaign, set to begin Tuesday and run for a week in eight closely contested states, is part of a big push in the final three weeks before the Nov. 6 election. Polls have shown President Barack Obama with a wide lead over Romney among women, but some surveys suggest that gap has narrowed recently. The ad, "Sack It," shows a woman watching one of Obama's campaign commercials. "Mr. President, here's what I want to know,"

The Barack Obama administration has been engaged in non-stop global bungle-buffoonery. And that’s giving them the benefit of the doubt – it may be that these horrific anti-American Interest results are their intention. An example: Allegedly, President Obama — given his partial upbringing in Islamic Indonesia – was going to have a better understanding of and relationship with the Muslim World. But a year after the Obama-backed “Arab Spring,” at least twenty U.S. Embassies were attacked on this year’s 9-11 anniversary. In Benghazi, Libya, Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were brutally murdered.

On the eve of the second of the presidential debates all hell broke loose. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, from Peru no less and safely after the evening news broadcasts here in the United States, announced that she takes “responsibility” for the Benghazi security debacle. It was intentionally left vague for what part of the fiasco she was taking responsibility (e.g. refusing to send Marine guards, not alerting the president that Libya had become an al-Qaeda-infested, non-functioning state). In one fell swoop she

WASHINGTON — The State Department said Tuesday it never concluded that the consulate attack in Libya stemmed from protests over an American-made video ridiculing Islam, raising further questions about why the Obama administration used that explanation for more than a week after assailants killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans. The revelation came as new documents suggested internal disagreement over appropriate levels of security before the attack, which occurred on the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks on the U.S.

Billionaire businessman and one-time presidential candidate H. Ross Perot on Tuesday endorsed GOP candidate Mitt Romney. Perot, whose 1992 independent bid for the presidency captured close to 19 percent of the vote, praised Romney in an op-ed in the Des Moines Register, saying the GOP nominee would restrain the growth of government and “keep it from acting as a brake on economic growth.” The national debt has been a signature issue for the 82-year old Perot and his endorsement comes after an interview earlier this month

Malala Yousafzai can't speak for herself, and it remains to be seen whether she ever will again. For the crime of going to school -- and blogging about it -- she was shot in the head by a Taliban assassin while in her school bus. Yousafzai, now 14, knew the risk she was taking when at the age of 11 and under a pen name ("Gul Makai") she began posting an online diary which then appeared on the BBC's website under the banner "Diary of a Pakistani schoolgirl." This followed the Taliban's 2007 overrunning of the Swat Valley where she lives,

The White House and Obama's media cohort believe they now have the Benghazi consulate attack story under control. They have, they think, established two foundation points of the narrative that relieve Obama of any responsibility for the events and their aftermath. The two points are, first, that the deaths of Ambassador Stevens and three others were the result of bad decisions by low-level people in the State Department, not bad policy choices by Obama. The second point is that by doing nothing about the attack -- leaving it to the FBI to investigate and Libya to prosecute the perpetrators

Four years ago, a friend, head of HR for a major media company, called me. She sounded agitated. “I’ve never missed a vote,” she said, “and I always vote Democrat, but this guy [Obama] is just absurd. I doubt I’d offer him a job as a management trainee for one of our mid-size companies. How am I supposed to vote for him to be President?” Four years later, millions of Americans without the HR experience are asking the same question. Under the Obama Administration, Americans have come to feel embattled, helpless and leaderless.

Hillary Clinton has said she takes full responsibility for the security failures that led to the death of the US ambassador to Libya, an admission designed to draw criticism away from Barack Obama in the final weeks of the election. The US Secretary of State said she was determined not to allow the murder of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans to be used as "some kind of political gotcha" and that her department, not the White House, was responsible for their protection. Mrs Clinton, herself a former presidential candidate, rarely strays into domestic politics but her intervention

The big story this evening is that Hillary Clinton has “taken responsibility” for what happened in Benghazi. According to CNN reporter Elise Labott, Clinton said that it is “her State Department”; that the buck stops with her; and that she “take[s] responsibility.” Similarly, Clinton reportedly told Fox News that she is “responsible for the State Department, for more than 60,000 people around the world.” But she added that “the decisions about security are made by security professionals.” This statement appears to shift blame to these professionals. And Clinton again invoked them when she said that the June explosion in Benghazi

Perhaps you thought the Solyndra scandal amounted to a $535 million government loan that will never be repaid. No such luck. In the latest twist, Solyndra's investors could be rewarded for their failure, thanks to a tax benefit the Administration handed out in a bid to evade political accountability. The Internal Revenue Service exposed this double Solyndra debacle last week in the U.S. bankruptcy court for the district of Delaware, which is unwinding the defunct solar-panel maker. The IRS formally objected to Solyndra's Chapter 11 reorganization plan, claiming its "principal purpose is tax avoidance." ***

Before the first presidential debate, President Obama was riding high in the polls. Now, he finds himself tied or even behind Mitt Romney, both nationally and in key states. But what happened may not be as simple as a good debate for Romney and a bad one for Obama. The president was showing signs of weakness before the two candidates met up in Denver -- everyone was just too distracted by a run of terrible news for Romney to take notice. Obama had two prominent public outings prior to the Oct. 3 debate in Denver, and both should have been alarming
