Sen. Corker: Obama must have

This morning, I spoke with Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), who had just returned from Libya, about the Benghazi debacle. He was animated and clearly flabbergasted at the administration’s reaction. “It baffles me that the vice president of the United States would continue to say things that don’t square with the facts on the ground, “ he said in reference to VP Joe Biden’s remarks in the debate Thursday night. He reiterated, “There was no protest. There was no reaction to the [anti-Muslim video], and they knew it in 24 hours. I don’t understand what they are doing.”

The rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) congratulated the president of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, and his countrymen on the election held on October 7, when he was reelected for his third consecutive six-year term in office. In a statement dated October 8 and and released on Friday on FARC website, the rebel group noted that the Venezuelan vote last October 7 was a "model of democracy," Efe reported. Chávez is to remain in power until 2019, after he won the election with 55.26% of the votes cast (over 8.13 million ballots)

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says the precise details of the deadly Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya are still unclear. But she says the Obama administration is committed to uncovering the truth. One month after the attack that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans, Clinton said Friday that there is still "much" the administration doesn't know about what happened. Clinton said no one in the administration was motivated by anything other than determining the facts of the case

Little noticed in last night’s debate: Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. seemed to go out of his way to alter what has been a high-profile — and unfair — criticism by President Obama of the Romney campaign’s statements about Iraq. On the trail, Mr. Obama has made a talking point of what he characterizes as Mitt Romney’s stated belief that ending the war in Iraq was a tragedy. He even mentioned it in his speech at the Democratic National Convention last month, seen by more than 30 million viewers: “My opponent said that it was ‘tragic’

German Economics Minister Philipp Rösler is standing in the boiler room of a row house in the town of Hönow, near Berlin. He doesn't look at all pleased with what he's seeing: an un-insulated heating pipe. What a waste of money and energy!
The owner of the building, Petra Röfke, 54, and her partner Hartmut, 58, look embarrassed. But the minister has some good advice for them. Wrapping a little foam insulation around the pipe would help save a lot of energy, he says, adding: "I have the same kind of pipe in my house."

The vice presidential debate was uniquely important because if Paul Ryan won it or did well, the Romney-Ryan ticket's momentum would be continued or speed up. If he did not, that momentum would slow or stop. So the night carried implications. The debate, obviously, was the Republican versus the Democrat, a particular kind of conservative versus a particular kind of liberal, one philosophical approach versus another. Beyond that there was some iconic weight to it. It was age versus youth; full, white-haired man versus lean, black-haired man. Youth is energy—new ideas and new ways.

Dems in coal states

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio - Friends of coal are certain they know the enemy. They fault President Barack Obama and his Environmental Protection Agency for new clean air rules they deride as a devastating blow to a multibillion-dollar industry, the lifeblood of Appalachia for generations. The agency standards imposed earlier this year tightened limits on existing coal powered-plant emissions. Guidelines on restricting greenhouse gases could affect new plants as early as 2013. Obama's moves on clean air and fossil fuels have complicated the lives of Democrats in coal-rich states that count on mining for jobs and economic growth.

Families With Heartless Form Letters

President Obama has been sending identically worded, typewritten form letters to the parents of soldiers, Marines and Navy SEALs killed in action. Is "No Drama Obama" cool or ice-hearted? For years now, the commander in chief has sent to families of fallen troops form letters that he's done little more than sign his name to. Is it a gaffe? A symptom of heartlessness? A refrigerator has more warmth. Latent anti-military sentiment? If this is the explanation, it would have to border on contempt for those who wear the uniform. In contrast, according to Ricochet.com's Diane Ellis, Obama's predecessor

Testimony in a congressional hearing Wednesday on the Sept. 11 outrage against the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi fueled a growing suspicion: President Barack Obama’s administration was more concerned about projecting the image of improving stability in Libya, to bolster his re-election chances, than it was about ensuring the security of Americans on the ground there. The fact of a successful terrorist attack against the U.S. on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks — a day, above all others, when security for American officials in volatile countries should be at its utmost — is demoralizing and infuriating.

Even though the mainstream media's Narrative Gatekeepers won't allow for a national discussion on the security failures in Libya and the subsequent White House cover up, that doesn’t mean voters are disinterested or that local media outlets in the individual states aren't covering the September 11 anniversary attacks. This morning, the Columbus Dispatch out of the crucial swing state of Ohio, published a brutal (because it's true) editorial lashing out at Obama's dishonest and incompetent mishandling of Libya: The fact of a successful terrorist attack against the U.S. on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks — a day,

Wisdom from Biden that Ryan evaded: Biden: “War should always be the absolute last resort.” The knock-out punch: Biden on Ryan’s tax cuts: “Mathematically impossible. It has NEVER been done before.” The turning point: At about 40 minutes, Biden’s amusement begins to seem justified. He’s calling Ryan on everything. Getting under Ryan’s skin.

The Libya debacle is not merely a case of inadequate security. It is a case of willful blindness to the progress of al-Qaeda in a locale that the Obama team had boasted was a grand success for its “leading from behind” strategy. The administration despite every available bit of evidence continued to cling to a false narrative, and repeat that narrative to the public, because it refused to recognize that Libya was a terrorist victory, not a U.S. success story. With each passing day, we learn that the administration

Joe Biden deftly defended President Barack Obama’s record at Thursday’s vice presidential debate, swatting down Paul Ryan, who didn’t score playing dodge ball. I’m a bit torn over whether Ryan’s biggest mistake was offering little about Mitt Romney’s vision for the nation or his refusal to answer some major questions about abortion, jobs and when U.S. troops should be sent to war. Ryan, 42, looked very junior to Biden, who turns 70 next month — that he could not help.

Michael Hayden, former CIA director, and Michael Chertoff, who served as Homeland Security chief, today blasted Vice President Joe Biden for making the U.S. intelligence community a scapegoat for 'the inconsistent and shifting response of the Obama Administration'. The tough joint statement was issued via the Romney campaign the morning after Biden stunned many in the intelligence community by insisting that the U.S. consulate in Benghazi did not ask for additional security before it was attacked on September 11, directly contradicting what security officials and diplomats have testified under oath. Liberal pollster John Zogby has joined the parade saying, "Biden was supercilious, gratuitously belittling, and at times disrespectful." Although he declared Biden the winner, Zogby wrote: Biden, for his part, stopped the bleeding from the first presidential debate by being aggressive and by asserting that he was at the President's side when the United States was hit by its worst economic crisis in decades and with two wars. But, frankly, Biden was supercilious, gratuitously belittling, and at times disrespectful.
