Tiger Woods easily accounted for world number one Rory McIlroy in the first ever matchplay showdown between the pair to reach the semi-finals at the World Golf Final in Belek, Turkey on Thursday. Woods was always ahead in his match, shooting a seven-under-par 64 to McIlroy's one-under-par 70 on the Sultan course at the Antalya club, to advance to a showdown with England's Justin Rose. Rose defeated reigning US Open champion, Webb Simpson with a new course record of nine-under-par 62, compared to Simpson's 67. South African Charl Schwartzel posted a 63 to defeat American Matt Kuchar,

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: It's beyond a disconnect, it is utterly damning. There are two scandals going on. The first is the coverup. We now know, and they knew earlier there was no mob, there was no demonstration, there was no incentive about the video. It was all a completely false story. This was simply an attack of our men who infiltrated and killed our people. So everything that Susan Rice said was a confection, it was an invention. And as you showed, it was repeated again and again. You had Hillary Clinton speaking of the video as the body

Last week, after the first presidential debate, I spoke at an architecture school in downtown Los Angeles. One of the questions the moderator asked was about American exceptionalism. The foam flecked to his lips at the very phrase. What, pray tell, was American exceptionalism, he asked? I answered by referencing the Founding Fathers and the freedoms they guaranteed us via the American Constitutional System of checks and balances. What makes us unique guardians of liberty, I said, is that our system is designed to counterbalance interest against interest — we only act together with the full

The BBC to investigate its

Chris Patten wants to launch an inquiry into BBC bias. This is about as convincing as King Herod launching an inquiry into the mysterious disappearance of first-born children from Judea. Fat Pang, as most of us were aware long before his appointment as BBC chairman, is very much part of the problem, not the solution. He is the very embodiment of bien-pensant, metropolitan, gag-makingly politically correct BBC values. Patten has said that he wants the inquiry to concentrate on the BBC's coverage of religion, immigration and Europe. Gosh, that's lucky for him. That means he won't have to address the

NEW YORK -- Wendy's pigtails are getting a tweak. For the first time since 1983, the Dublin, Ohio-based fast food company is updating its logo in a move intended to signal its ongoing transformation into a higher-end hamburger chain. Instead of the boxy, old-fashioned lettering against a red-and-yellow backdrop, the pared down new look features the chain's name in a casual red font against a clean white backdrop. An image of the smiling, cartoon girl in red pigtails floats above — though this girl looks more vivid and not quite as childlike. In an interview with The Associated Press

As Gary Jenkins from Swordfish says this morning: Spain is junked if it does, and junked if it doesn’t. A key reason for Standard & Poor’s two-notch downgrade of Spain to near junk last night is the refusal of premier Mariano Rajoy to bite the bullet on a rescue. His "hesitation" is "potentially raising the risks to Spain’s rating". By contrast, Moody’s said earlier that it will cut Spain to junk if it DOES request a bail-out. What a marvellous mess. Here is S&P’s rationale: A severe and deepening economic recession that could lead to increasing social

MORGAN: "It is pretty un-American to be putting out completely false statements before you know the facts. Isn't it?" WASSERMAN SCHULTZ: "Piers, it is not okay for you to be saying that the administration was putting out completely false statements. They put out information that they had at the time based on the intelligence they were given..." MORGAN: "That turned out to be completely wrong--" WASSERMAN

The presidential campaign has Candy Crowley seeing blue — literally. The “State of the Union” anchor is awash in TV blue cards, colored notes she uses to write down potential subjects and talking points as she prepares to moderate the next debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney on Oct. 16. “I have blue cards on my bedside table. I have them in my bathroom. And I have them at work. And I have them in my kitchen,” Crowley says. Despite her more than 25 years in journalism, CNN’s chief political correspondent

Of all the “Star Wars” characters, Mark Hamill thinks President Obama is most like Obi-Wan Kenobi. "Well he's very wise. He's got a sort of, probably, a cross between Obi-Wan and Yoda," the actor, who played Luke Skywalker, said on “The Young Turks”. “I so revere him, I'm going to have to go with the Sir Alec Guinness character, Obi-Wan." Hamill has previously described Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney as “not actually human” and “a snake oil salesman.”

Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter argued Thursday that the presidential race was "roughly the same as where it was before" Mitt Romney's consensus victory over President Obama in the first presidential debate. "I think that Romney made modest gains, there's no doubt about that," Cutter told MSNBC. "But the race is essentially the same as it was." The argument drew criticism from the "Morning Joe" panel, which dismissed Cutter's claim as "spin" and insisted repeatedly that the president was "hemorrhaging" after his performance. "What I was trying to say is that this election,

HOUSTON - Project Veritas, the group headed by James O'Keefe and known for undercover video operations, has released a new investigation that exposes Obama campaign workers, including a Regional Field Director at Organizing for America (OFA), engaged in election fraud. Announcing the release, James O'Keefe said, "These individuals showed no concern whatsoever when our investigators declared their intention to vote multiple times for President Obama. In fact, they were happy to help, even going so far as to provide the forms necessary to commit the fraud and offering advice on how to avoid getting caught."

As the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a case that could decide the future of racial preferences in college admissions, The Daily Caller obtained one of the oldest known audio recordings of President Barack Obama: an October 28, 1994 NPR broadcast in which Obama described opponents of affirmative action and certain welfare programs as favoring racism. Obama’s remarks came as part of a broadcast review of American Enterprise Institute scholar Charles Murray’s controversial 1994 book, “The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life.” Obama accused Murray of racism,

Since about the beginning of President Obama’s tenure, the Gallup poll has generally been one of the least positive polls for the Democratic party. This has prompted outrage and pressure from the left--even from presidential advisor David Axelrod. (Snip) Alan Abramowitz of Huffington Post and The Democratic Strategist noticed that Gallup has increased its share of nonwhites from 27 percent the week of the convention to 32 percent last week, a nearly 20 percent boost. The number of Americans seeking unemployment aid plummeted last week to seasonally adjusted 339,000, the lowest level in more than four years. The sharp drop offered a hopeful sign that the job market could pick up. The Labor Department said Thursday that weekly applications fell by 30,000 to the fewest since February 2008. The four-week average, a less volatile measure, dropped by 11,500 to 364,000, a six-month low. Weekly applications are a proxy for layoffs. They can fluctuate sharply from week to week. If they stay near last week's level, it would likely signal better hiring ahead.

The pressure tonight is intense on Joe 'Big #$%&)@# Deal' Biden at the vice presidential debate with Rep. Paul Ryan. After Barack Obama so totally destroyed his own chances of dispatching Mitt Romney with the incumbent's somnolent debate performance last week, the entire fate of the Democrats' campaign could hang on Joe's gaffe-prone tongue. Joe's got to change the momentum. If he bombs too, treats Ryan condescendingly, gets into his chains rhetoric again, it could be all over.

While some may roll their eyes at Libertarian Party presidential nominee and marijuana-legalization champion Gary Johnson, recent polling shows that his presence on the ballot could have an effect on the presidential race, at least in Nevada. A Public Policy Polling (PPP) survey released Wednesday found President Barack Obama has a four-point lead over Republican nominee Mitt Romney in Nevada (51-47 percent). But when Johnson is thrown into the mix, the former New Mexico governor garners three percent of the vote, largely pulling voters from Obama. “When Gary Johnson’s included he gets 3 percent and actually takes

President Obama’s reelection campaign has settled on two primary criticisms of Republican challenger Mitt Romney: His policy proposals are too vague and he is lying about the details he puts forward. However, experts insist that it is the president who suffers from a lack of policy details and has failed to offer a clear agenda for a possible second term. When it comes to contentious issues such as tax reform and deficit reduction, President Obama has failed to provide a detailed view of what he hopes to accomplish in a second term. “I don’t think we’ve

President Obama's senior adviser, David Axelrod, denied on "CBS This Morning" that Mr. Obama is sliding in the polls and that Mitt Romney is gaining momentum. "I don't think there's a slide in the polls; I think there was a bump after the debate," Axelrod said Thursday. "I don't think there's big momentum" for Romney, he said, allowing that the Republican challenger "collected a couple of points." A new Quinnipiac/CBS News/NY Times poll shows Mr. Obama's lead tightening in Wisconsin and Romney with a slight advantage in Colorado.

Americas: Knocking off the kingpin of a monstrous drug cartel won't end the war in Mexico. But the Mexican navy's killing of Zeta boss Heriberto Lazcano is nevertheless a big victory — and not just south of our border. aclgsLazcano, who was gunned down just 80 miles south of Laredo, Texas, ran the most powerful, treacherous and violent drug cartel in Mexico. A military deserter turned trafficker, Lazcano pioneered the most horrific spectacles of the drug war: beheadings; bodies dangling from bridges; heads posted on pikes, strewn across highways, thrown in front of schools, burned in cars and unearthed from mass graves.
