ABC News relates the story of Jane Horton, whose husband Chris was a combat sniper from the Oklahoma National Guard, killed in an ambush while deployed to Afghanistan in September 2011. Mitt Romney has been talking about the death of Chris Horton during campaign speeches, particularly Jane Horton’s response when the degenerates from the Westboro Baptist Church turned up to protest his funeral: “Chris died for them to be able to protest.” “This is quite a nation we live in,” Romney observes on the stump. “There are some extraordinary people.”

They’ve done it again. The “Bad Lip Reading” team behind those incredible spoofs of Republican primary candidates — Rick Perry‘s “save the pretzel for the gas jets” anyone? — has come out with a “bad” (read: hilarious) lip reading of Wednesday night’s first presidential debate. In this lip reading, GOP candidate Mitt Romney continually tries to impress moderator Jim Lehrer with his slightly “pitchy, but good stuff” ad lib songwriting, while President Barack Obama (who is now known as “Ahmed”) fumbles his way through nonsensical rants about a “purple idiot” with “an Irish Labradoodle puppy.”

MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell last week was so shocked that John Sununu called President Obama "lazy," she actually asked him to take it back. Poynter.org reported moments ago that Mitchell's boss, NBC News President Steve Capus, called both presidential candidates "lazy" on Monday (video follows with partial transcript and commentary): Monday night, at the Edward R. Murrow Awards ceremony, NBC News President Steve Capus asked both campaigns to stop using clips from newscasts in their ads. Capus said:

Paul D. Ryan was plucked from Congress to be Mitt Romney's running mate largely on his reputation as the wonkish and charismatic House Budget Committee chairman, but under the evening sun at the county fairgrounds he was debating beer. And ribs. And a regional favorite called Five Way, which is chili over spaghetti noodles topped with cheese, onions and beans. The architect of the Republican Party's tough-love economic platform has proved particularly adept on the campaign trail with another aspect of political life: courting voters with an appealing enthusiasm, while sometimes skimming past thorny budget details.

"The Illegal-Donor Loophole" is the headline of a Daily Beast story by Peter Schweizer of the conservative Government Accountability Institute and Peter Boyer, former reporter at the New Yorker and the New York Times. The article tells how Obama.com, a website owned by an Obama fundraiser who lives in China but has visited the Obama White House 11 times, sends solicitations mostly to foreign email addresses and links to the Obama campaign website's donation page. The Obama website, unlike those of most campaigns, doesn't ask for the three- or four-digit credit card verification number.

Under the Obama administration, the FDA has opted not to crack down on compounding pharmacies that are mass-producing cheaper drugs under less scrutiny than heavily regulated pharmaceuticals as part of a push to reduce health costs, a former top Bush-era FDA official told the Herald. “The administration made the decision that having access to cheap drugs is more important than the assurances of safety and efficacy from the FDA,” said Sheldon Bradshaw, the FDA’s senior legal counsel in the George W. Bush administration who now works as a Washington lawyer representing corporations regulated by the FDA.

ABC News confirmed on Wednesday that President Obama was a guest at the 1991 wedding of ABC senior foreign affairs correspondent Martha Raddatz, who is set to moderate the vice presidential debate on Thursday night. The news, which was first reported by the conservative website The Daily Caller, prompted howls of disapproval from conservatives, who questioned whether Raddatz will be a neutral moderator. In a statement, an ABC spokesman called accusations that Raddatz has a conflict of interest "absurd." There is no evidence that Obama and Raddatz are close, but the president is friends with her now-ex-husband, Julius Genachowski.

Paul Ryan, who was just two years old when Vice President Joe Biden entered the U.S. Senate, could deliver a major blow to President Barack Obama's hopes of re-election if he prevails in tomorrow's debate in Kentucky. Although the Romney campaign has been publicly playing down the chances of Representative Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee, scoring a major victory in the vice-presidential debate, privately hopes are high that he could do very well. Biden, who was a Senator for 36 years, is legendarily verbose and prone to verbal slips which have been a boon to the Romney campaign

He is doing this independent of the party. Peterffy told the Examiner via email that he intends to spend $5-10 million on the ad “depending upon how effective it is found to be.” The will run through the election and be broadcast on “CNN, CNBC, Bloomberg, and test markets in Ohio and Wisconsin, (and) possibly Florida.” In the ad, he addresses the camera directly, talking about his youth in socialist Hungary

The woman who founded the Children’s Television Workshop, which created Sesame Street, is a maxed-out contributor to the Obama campaign and a significant donor to the Obama-backing Priorities USA Super PAC, campaign finance records show. Joan Ganz Cooney contributed the the maximum $35,800 to the Obama campaign and Democratic National Committee, plus an additional $30,400 that could be distributed by the "Obama Victory Fund" to state parties. She then gave $50,000 to the Priorities USA Super PAC that is backing Obama's re-election. Additionally, records show that Cooney gave $30,800 to the Democratic National Committee Services

On 30 October 2008, I wrote about a bizarre idiosyncrasy I discovered in the Obama fundraising website, which was designed by a company named Blue State Digital. Will the innovations never cease? Yesterday I described several, eh, unique capabilities pioneered by the Obama campaign in the area of campaign contributions.(Snip) Anyhow, an anonymous tipster mentioned that checking out the source code of the Obama donation website... would reveal some interesting logic. Specifically that IP addresses of the donors can be easily spoofed through a hidden field in the form. The tipster's guess was (and I concur) that the Obama campaign

Mia Love, the Republican nominee for Utah's 4th Congressional District, has pulled ahead of Democratic incumbent Rep. Jim Matheson in the polls. According to the latest Desert News/ KSL, Love, the mayor of Saratoga Springs, is polling 6 points ahead of Congressman Matheson. Matheson is the only Democrat in the Utah congressional delegation and attempts to distance himself from his party, given the remarkably conservative district he represents. Although he voted against the the original health care law in 2010, he voted with the Democrats in January of 2011 against the repeal of the health care law.

Ann Romney talked dancing horses and dancing stars, but not politics, this morning as the wife of GOP nominee Mitt Romney co-hosted “Good Morning America.” Long-called her husband’s “secret weapon” for her ability to humanize the often stiff seeming candidate, Romney has become an increasingly popular figure this campaign season. A recent ABC News/ Washington Post poll found her favorability rating jumping 12 points between April and October, making her almost as popular as first lady Michelle Obama. “After raising five boys, I’m ready for anything that’s thrown my way,”

The Obama administration's lies about the Benghazi attack continue to unravel. But the State Department said yesterday that it never concluded that there was a protest outside the consulate. (Snip) By September 13, the President had internally designated the attack an act of terrorism so that he would have the legal authority to mobilize military and intelligence assets. Okay, Steven Spielberg said what he said about Democrats and Republicans at his prerelease press conference promoting "Lincoln," his next movie which will be released just after Election Day. And of course he's spectacularly wrong in claiming that the country's two major political parties have "traded political places over the last 150 years." If that were the entire story and Reuters reporter Christine Kearney (pictured here at LinkedIn) had simply relayed what Spielberg said, this post wouldn't be about media bias. But is, because Ms. Kearney herself took a journey into the land of make-believe with this subsequent

A defiant Jack Welch, the former CEO of General Electric, today maintained that the September jobs report, which saw unemployment drop to 7.8 per cent, is 'downright implausible' and blasted criticism of him from Obama backers as reminiscent of Communist China. Welch created a furore last week when he tweeted that the sharp drop in the unemployment rate was 'unbelievable" and that Obama and his campaign aides 'will do anything ... can't debate so change numbers'. Hilda Solis, the U.S. Labour Secretary branded such talk as 'ludicrous' and economists, commentators and the media portrayed
