Team Obama came out of that disastrous first debate blaming the debacle on one thing after another, finally settling on the most vicious excuse: Mitt Romney only won because he was a brazen liar. David Axelrod was obnoxious enough to cite as his moral witness one Bill Clinton, who is certainly an authority on lying with a barrel full of chutzpah. Axelrod pledged in every interview that Team Obama would be holding Romney accountable. Fine. That's political theater. But is there anyone in the media who holds Team Obama accountable? Most journalists are too busy hounding Romney.

Joe Biden comes into tomorrow’s vice presidential debate with opinion stacked against him. According to a new Pew Research Center poll, more voters view the vice president unfavorably than favorably by a 51 percent to 39 percent margin. Opinions on Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) are more evenly divided, with 44 percent of voters viewing the Republican vice presidential nominee favorably and 40 percent viewing him unfavorably. Biden’s image has deteriorated significantly since his 2008 debate with then-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. At that time he was viewed favorably by 53 percent of voters and unfavorably by 31 percent.

London— A deal to create a European defense and aerospace giant to rival Boeing Co. collapsed Wednesday when Britain’s BAE Systems and EADS NV called off their merger discussions. The companies said they had “decided to terminate their discussions” over the proposed $45 billion tie-up because of conflicting interests between the British, French and German governments. “It has become clear that the interests of the parties’ government stakeholders cannot be adequately reconciled with each other or with the objectives that BAE Systems and EADS established for the merger,” the companies said in a statement.

It seems not even theme parks are immune from the Left's compulsion to use every entertainment outlet possible to get President Barack Obama reelected. A production currently playing at Universal Orlando Resort, according to a mother of three who attended a recent showing, is like a stage show version of MSNBC. The park's "Halloween Horror Nights" lineup includes an event dubbed, "Bill & Ted's Excellent Halloween Adventure" described as a skewering of "the biggest names in entertainment and pop culture." Not exactly, according to attendee Marla Knowles.

The media is trying to figure out how this happened. How could Mitt Romney be blasting his way to the top of the polls after just one debate? Would you like a very simple answer? Here it is: The media tried to tell America that Romney was one thing, while the debate showed them he was another. The difference between the two are seen in the poll numbers. It really is that simple. For the last year or so the media created a template that reflected their opinion, not reality. Mitt Romney was a gaffe machine

Now a known quantity, Ann Romney’s popularity is surging, a new ABC News/Washington Post poll finds. Romney’s favorability ratings jumped 12 percentage points between April and October, bringing her near the popularity of first lady Michelle Obama. The new poll comes on the heels of her highly regarded speech at the Republican National Convention and a slew of high profile appearances since her husband Mitt Romney cinched the Republican presidential nomination in April. Though Romney accompanied her husband on the campaign trail during his 2008 run for the Republican presidential nomination, she was relatively unknown to voters back in April 2012.

In a clear threat to the voters of California, the superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District implicitly warned that if either Propositions 30 or 38 aren’t passed, the children of the city will miss the last two months of the school year. John Deasy, the superintendent, said: “Our school year will have to be reduced to 160 days right off the bat. I do not have answers to the question as to how are we going to transport students who have the legal right to school in Special Education. That won’t be funded.

I thought of my fellow Californian Energy Secretary Steven Chu last week, when I paid $4.89 a gallon in Gilroy for regular gas — and had to wait in line to get it. The customers were in near revolt, but I wondered against what and whom. I mentioned to one exasperated motorist that there are estimated to be over 20 billion barrels of oil a few miles away, in newly found reserves off the California coast. He thought I was from Mars. California may face the nation’s largest budget deficit at $16 billion. It may struggle with the

Though most people probably don’t even know who John Hofmeister is, federal politicians know very well who he is and are finding out that he is royally-angered about the current gasoline prices throughout the United States being so incredibly high. He has been going public in the recent past via various television and radio interviews in which he is bluntly telling how he warned President Barack Obama, other politicians, and government officials that the current gas prices could have been totally avoided if the Obama administration only would have given his experienced-knowledge a chance.

WASHINGTON - The number of U.S. job openings fell slightly in August, a troubling sign for a labor market that is recovering at a painfully slow pace. Job openings - a measure of labor demand - dropped to 3.56 million from 3.59 million in July, the Labor Department said on Wednesday in its monthly Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey. The data casts a small shadow over recent signs of improvement in the labor market. Government data last week showed the U.S. unemployment rate unexpectedly dropped to 7.8 percent in September, its lowest level

With the accurate accounts of what really transpired in Benghazi on 9/11/12 coming from anonymous State Department staffers not authorized to speak, it's worht wondering what's really going on. Are these people who are disgusted at both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, seeking to set the record straight? Are they Hillary Clinton loyalists, trying to get the story out from State in a way that will best preserve her reputation and future ambitions (if any)? Who knows? As I noted back on September 24, Obama-Clinton relations may be getting very interesting.

Israel's civilian air traffic was halted for several minutes on Wednesday morning after an unidentified flying object was spotted inside Israeli air space, Israel's army radio said. Air force jets were briefly scrambled and Israeli air space was closed, it said, without saying what caused the scare. The closure was lifted several minutes later. Closing Israeli air space was an "exceptional" measure which demonstrated the level of tension in Israel after the air force shot down an unidentified and unarmed drone which had entered the country's airspace on Saturday from the Mediterranean. Fresh details about the weekend incident emerged

The liberal media/politician/bureaucrat revolving door spins so rapidly, sometimes it's hard to keep pace. Today we learn via the Daily Caller that the moderator for tomorrow's vice presidential debate, ABC News reporter Martha Raddatz, hosted President Obama as a guest at her 1991 wedding to the man who would later become Obama's FCC commissioner, Julius Genachowski. That's shocking enough in its own right but things are further compounded by the fact that ABC News, home of veteran Democratic adviser George Stephanopolous, has long known about this conflict of interest and did nothing about it. Even worse, the network has

Press coverage of polls gives these imprecise tools much more weight than they deserve. Voters should keep this in mind as they are confronted with the inevitable avalanche of polls between now and Election Day. Even with a few polls showing Mitt Romney leading President Obama, some Republicans allege that pollsters consistently underrepresent the number of Republicans in their samples. The charge certainly deserves serious attention. Just about every major news story about the election mentions polling.

David Siegel, the owner of Westgate Resorts, sent a surprising email to his employees Monday. It said that if President Barack Obama wins re-election and raises Siegel's taxes, he will have to lay off workers and downsize his company — or even shut it down. "If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, as our current President plans, I will have no choice but to reduce the size of this company," he wrote. "Rather than grow this company I will be forced to cut back. This means fewer jobs, less benefits and certainly less opportunity for everyone."

ABC News has learned that Eric Nordstrom, the former Regional Security Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Libya, has told congressional investigators that security at the U.S. diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya, was “inappropriately low” – and believed that State Department officials stood in the way of his attempts to change that. Nordstrom and the commander of a 16-member Security Support Team, Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Wood, heard that foreign fighters were flowing across the Egyptian border and were making their way across the border to the Libyan city of

Refusing to follow federal law has become the hallmark of this administration, but the White House’s latest arrogant, unlawful ploy goes even further and may end up costing the American taxpayer a great deal of money. On September 28, the Office of Management and Budget issued a “guidance” letter that assures defense contractors that the federal government will pay for any legal damages incurred for failing to issue layoff notices (as required by federal law) related to sequester-induced job losses. In other words, the White House is telling defense contractors that the American

If Dianafication describes the descent of Britain into emotional incontinence, Borismania describes the descent of Britain into demotic derangement. This is manifesting itself in the mob frenzy that has been greeting Boris at the Tory party conference, with the mass chanting of his name by adoring crowds conjuring up distinctly uncomfortable echoes of other, more sinister leadership cults in Europe's troubled history. But it also seems to be throwing more rarified souls off-balance too. The latest casualty of Borismania is the normally sensible Rachel Sylvester. In the Times (£) today, she writes that both Boris and the Labour leader Ed

First came the nausea. Then came the anxiety. After months of watching Mitt Romney twist in the media glare, a growing number of President Barack Obama’s supporters — though confined for now to a noisy minority of liberals — are peering into the Obama-might-actually-lose abyss for the first time after last week’s disastrous first debate. Some progressives seem to be going into primal panic mode — to the profound annoyance of the Democratic professional political class and an Obama campaign predicting a rebound at next Tuesday’s debate in Long Island. “That’s my party: Irrational overconfidence followed by irrational despair,”

In Los Angeles, where the distinctions between the citizen and the non-citizen are often little more than abstractions, they are one step closer to vanishing altogether. That such a thing should occur in Los Angeles comes as no surprise to anyone paying even the slightest attention to recent trends in the city’s governance. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is famously sympathetic to the cause of illegal immigrants, and most members of the city council hold similar views. So if the latest assault on the rule of law as it pertains to illegal immigrants in L.A.

WASHINGTON -- More than a quarter-million Medicare beneficiaries are potential victims of identity theft and hampered in getting health care benefits because the government won't issue new IDs, according to an investigation report released today. Medicare officials say it's too expensive and too many agencies are involved to reissue those numbers to patients victimized by identity theft — about 284,000 beneficiaries, according to a report by the Department of Health and Human Service's inspector general. Beneficiary numbers are directly connected to a patient's Social Security number, and the government is unable to create a new Social Security

Nairobi, Kenya - Demonstrators marched through Nairobi’s capital today to protest another attempt by Kenyan lawmakers to boost their pay, after it emerged the officials had voted for a $25 million bonus for when they leave office. In a quiet amendment added to the Finance Bill late Thursday, members of Parliament approved a golden handshake of $110,000 each to be paid after their term ends early next year. The sweetener comes on top of an annual package worth $125,000, which is 70 times more than the average Kenyan worker takes home each year.

What does a politician, deeply involved in a campaign, do if he wants to quit? That may be the issue Barack Obama is dealing with. A few months ago, everything looked rosy. The Republican Party nominated the man he wanted to run against. His popularity, though not as high as when first elected, pointed to an easy re-election. Then matters turned
