Controversial Sarah Palin has been forced to hit back after being caught up in a furore over her new scarily skinny figure. Mrs Palin, 48, debuted her new look as she strolled through California's Studio City, dressed in an outfit that appeared to have been plundered from one of her young daughter's wardrobes. Dressed in tight black jeans, a crop top that looked like it had been stolen off the set of Flashdance, and high wedges, the former vice presidential hopeful looked a million miles away from the campaign trail.

Jerusalem— Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel on Tuesday called for elections early next year instead of as scheduled in October 2013, saying that conversations with his coalition partners had proved it would be impossible to pass “a responsible budget” with deep cuts.(Snip)The balloting could be as early as Jan. 15, but many here have speculated it would be set for mid-February, which would make Mr. Netanyahu’s the first Israeli government in more than two decades to complete a four-year term. At least 10,000 Israelis will die if Israel strikes Iran, a senior member of Iran’s Expediency Council and former Revolutionary Guards Corps commander said on Monday. “If they attack, Iran’s deterrent power would deal a mortal blow to them and the Israeli death rate would not be less than 10,000,” PressTV quoted Mohsen Rezai, who led the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps for 16 years in the 1980s and 1990s, saying. He added that the death toll would quickly force Israel to desist.

The owner of Olive Garden and Red Lobster restaurants is putting more workers on part-time status in a test aimed at limiting the impact of looming health coverage requirements. Darden Restaurants [DRI 54.74 -0.36 (-0.65%) ] declined to give details but said the test is only in restaurants in four markets across the country. The test entails increasing the number of workers on part-time status, meaning they work less than 30 hours a week. Under the new health care act, companies will be required to provide

Subsidies: With the economy faltering and Middle East unrest rising, President Obama acts as though the biggest issue facing the country is Mitt Romney's alleged threat to "Sesame Street." We have an idea for him. According to a recent tally, Obama brought up either Big Bird or Elmo 13 times in speeches since last week's debate, in which Romney promised to end federal support for PBS and NPR. That compares with zero mentions of how he plans to revive the economy, and no references to Libya. And he's now running an ad featuring Big Bird.

The state Economic Development Authority approved tax breaks for two Bergen County companies and one in Passaic County Tuesday in action aimed at keeping jobs in New Jersey. Acupak Packaging Inc., which makes single-use medical products, was awarded a $112,500 tax incentive to retain 50 jobs at its Ramapo Valley Road site in Mahwah. The company also would create five new jobs there. But the two other businesses signaled they were seriously considering leaving their current sites in North Jersey, while seeking incentives to stay within the state rather than move to neighboring states. Nightline co-anchor Cynthia McFadden continued her fawning, multi-part profile of Michelle Obama on Monday night, worrying about the "extra responsibilities" that Mrs. Obama faces as an African American First Lady. She then offered this softball: "Is it different to be a black child growing up in America today than it was four years ago?" [See video below. MP3 audio here.] Fellow co-anchor Bill Weir bragged that his colleague had been "granted rare access" to Mrs. Obama. McFadden wondered if the President is "a bit intimidated, a little bit afraid" of his wife. The journalist then pushed

Israel would have attacked Iran long ago if it could and wished to do so, said Iran's foreign minister in an interview Monday. “If the Israelis had wanted to attack us, and if they could have done so, they would have done so long ago,” said Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi on Monday to the German news weekly Der Spiegel. During an interview conducted in Frankfurt, the Salehi commented on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent presentation at the United Nations’ General Assembly, calling Netanyahu’s caricature of a bomb “childish,” and “bizarre,” according to the Der Spiegel report.

There was a nice human interest story on the campaign trail yesterday, but the AP found a way to muss it up. You rarely see media bias as blatant as you do in a comparison of the following two photos. Mitt Romney's motorcade was passing Fairfield Elementary School in Virginia when the Governor saw kids waiving and decided to make a U-turn and pull over. The kids were excited to meet Romney, according reporters on the scene: "Are you Mitt Romney?" asked one awed student. "I am Mitt Romney," he replied. "And that's your governor.

Mitt Romney's wife, Ann, equated President Obama's campaign to a petulant child during an interview Tuesday after being asked about charges from the president's campaign that her husband had "lied" during last week's debate. “I mean, lied about what? This is something he’s been saying all along. This is what he believes. This is his policy, these are his statements," Ann Romney said in an interview set to air Wednesday on Fox News. Finally, a pollster asked voters the one question that matters in this presidential election: Does Barack Obama know how to fix the economy? When the Pew Research Center asked that question in the days following Mitt Romney’s strong performance in last week’s presidential debate, a majority of the voters answered no. The central failure of Mr. Obama’s presidency centers on his demonstrated inability to restore the economy to full health and vigor after trillions of dollars in job-stimulus spending that created few jobs but added $5 trillion to the federal debt.

Something bizarre, surreal, perhaps unprecedented, has happened in the 2012 presidential election. With 28 days to go until Election Day, Mitt Romney, who served as governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007, has become the de facto president of the United States, and Barack Obama, who has served as president of the United States since 2009, has become the challenger — a “candidate.” While surprising, even shocking, the incumbent president says it almost daily. “That’s what we are going to put in place in the next four years,” Mr. Obama said in a campaign

The initial explanation for the attack in Libya was that there had been protests at the consulate because of a video that offended some Muslims. It’s worth looking at again U.N. ambassador Susan Rice’s September 16 remarks on This Week: But our current best assessment, based on the information that we have at present, is that, in fact, what this began as, it was a spontaneous — not a premeditated — response to what had transpired in Cairo. In Cairo, as you know, a few hours earlier, there was a violent protest

Fully implementing Obamacare regulations have already cost the U.S. economy $27.6 billion and more than 18,000 jobs according to a new study released today. Just the top ten most expensive regulations have cost $24.4 billion, according to the new non-partisan and independent American Action Forum (AAF) report. Just complying with the state health exchanges alone has to cost employers $3.4 billion according to the AAF totals which were compiled from Federal Register data. In addition to the regulatory costs, AAF estimates that Obamacare regulatory compliance has eaten up more than 60 million

WASHINGTON -- The State Department said Tuesday it never concluded that the consulate attack in Libya stemmed from protests over an American-made video ridiculing Islam, raising further questions about why the Obama administration used that explanation for more than a week after assailants killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans. The revelation came as new documents suggested internal disagreement over appropriate levels of security before the attack, which occurred on the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks on the U.S. Briefing reporters ahead of a hotly anticipated congressional hearing Wednesday, State Department officials provided their most detailed

The feud between pollster Scott Rasmussen and NBC White House correspondent Chuck Todd flared up again Tuesday when Todd criticized Rasmussen’s polling as “slop” in comparison to NBC’s polling. “We spend a lot more money polling than Scott Rasmussen does,” Todd said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box. “These guys are the gold standard. We spend so much money. So, it is unfair — I hate the idea their polling, which is rigorously done, has to get compared to what is, in some cases, you know, slop.” In an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “America Live”

David Petraeus and White House national security adviser James Clapper to investigate whether a columnist for The Daily Beast received the same classified foreign policy briefings as President Barack Obama. “While I recognize that members of the Executive Branch provide background briefings to members of the media, I do not recall any occasion where a journalist received an intelligence briefing equivalent to that received by the President or the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., especially in the aftermath of a terrorist attack against U.S. personnel,”

Al-Qaida is rebuilding in Iraq and has set up training camps for insurgents in the nation's western deserts as the extremist group seizes on regional instability and government security failures to regain strength, officials say. Iraq has seen a jump in al-Qaida attacks over the last 10 weeks, and officials believe most of the fighters are former prisoners who have either escaped from jail or were released by Iraqi authorities for lack of evidence after the U.S. military withdrawal last December. Many are said to be Saudi or from Sunni-dominated Gulf states. During the war and its aftermath,

With new polls showing his campaign gaining momentum, Mitt Romney is venturing into what might be viewed as unfriendly territory, visiting counties in swing states that voted for President Barack Obama in 2008 and urging the president's supporters to switch sides. The strategy is crucial to the Republican nominee: With the pool of undecided voters now small, Mr. Romney's best path to building a majority includes stripping Mr. Obama of some of his more tentative supporters. (Snip) Mr. Romney campaigned last weekend in three counties in Florida that Mr. Obama carried in 2008. On Monday, he stumped in Newport News,

Last night, President Obama defiantly declared that "al Qaeda is on its heels." The president made this claim at a fundraiser at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, California. "Now, four years ago, I made a few commitments to you. I told you I’d end the war in Iraq, and I did. I said I’d end the war in Afghanistan, and we are," said Obama. "I said we’d refocus on the people who actually attacked us on 9/11 -- and today, al Qaeda is on its heels and Osama bin Laden is no more." The extraordinary

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (CBS SEATTLE) – Another controversy involving homosexuality is shaking the Boy Scouts of America. New allegations are coming from Ryan Andresen, a scout for the past 12 years who is claiming his homosexuality is preventing him from participating in the BSA. In July, the organization announced that it plans to continue its ban on gay membership after a two-year review of the divisive policy. Ryan is claiming that, despite more than a decade of service in the scouts, he is being denied the group’s highest honor — the Eagle Award — because he is gay.

If you have doubts about the official jobless rate, there's another rate you can check out instead--the "real" unemployment rate, which measures everybody considered unemployed plus a lot of others who are falling through the cracks. The government calls this the "U-6" rate, and it has become a source of considerable intrigue lately. Some critics of President Obama contend that the government keeps the "real" rate a secret, because it reveals an economy that's in far worse shape than the official unemployment rate suggests. (Snip) But the government's own U-6 measure is even higher, at 14.7 percent. That's the percentage
