Finally, a pollster asked voters the one question that matters in this presidential election: Does Barack Obama know how to fix the economy? When the Pew Research Center asked that question in the days following Mitt Romney’s strong performance in last week’s presidential debate, a majority of the voters answered no. The central failure of Mr. Obama’s presidency centers on his demonstrated inability to restore the economy to full health and vigor after trillions of dollars in job-stimulus spending that created few jobs but added $5 trillion to the federal debt.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan talk almost daily while the two are on the campaign trail, but heading into Thursday’s vice presidential debate it is clear the top of the ticket doesn’t know much about Tuesday evening, Romney said he didn’t know how Ryan “will deal with this debate,” trying to tamp down expectations for the only vice presidential debate Thursday and noting that Joe Biden is an “experienced debater.” ”I don’t know how Paul will take on the debate,” Ryan told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. “Obviously the Vice President has done 15-20 debates in his lifetime

Something bizarre, surreal, perhaps unprecedented, has happened in the 2012 presidential election. With 28 days to go until Election Day, Mitt Romney, who served as governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007, has become the de facto president of the United States, and Barack Obama, who has served as president of the United States since 2009, has become the challenger — a “candidate.” While surprising, even shocking, the incumbent president says it almost daily. “That’s what we are going to put in place in the next four years,” Mr. Obama said in a campaign

The initial explanation for the attack in Libya was that there had been protests at the consulate because of a video that offended some Muslims. It’s worth looking at again U.N. ambassador Susan Rice’s September 16 remarks on This Week: But our current best assessment, based on the information that we have at present, is that, in fact, what this began as, it was a spontaneous — not a premeditated — response to what had transpired in Cairo. In Cairo, as you know, a few hours earlier, there was a violent protest

Fully implementing Obamacare regulations have already cost the U.S. economy $27.6 billion and more than 18,000 jobs according to a new study released today. Just the top ten most expensive regulations have cost $24.4 billion, according to the new non-partisan and independent American Action Forum (AAF) report. Just complying with the state health exchanges alone has to cost employers $3.4 billion according to the AAF totals which were compiled from Federal Register data. In addition to the regulatory costs, AAF estimates that Obamacare regulatory compliance has eaten up more than 60 million

WASHINGTON -- The State Department said Tuesday it never concluded that the consulate attack in Libya stemmed from protests over an American-made video ridiculing Islam, raising further questions about why the Obama administration used that explanation for more than a week after assailants killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans. The revelation came as new documents suggested internal disagreement over appropriate levels of security before the attack, which occurred on the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks on the U.S. Briefing reporters ahead of a hotly anticipated congressional hearing Wednesday, State Department officials provided their most detailed

The feud between pollster Scott Rasmussen and NBC White House correspondent Chuck Todd flared up again Tuesday when Todd criticized Rasmussen’s polling as “slop” in comparison to NBC’s polling. “We spend a lot more money polling than Scott Rasmussen does,” Todd said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box. “These guys are the gold standard. We spend so much money. So, it is unfair — I hate the idea their polling, which is rigorously done, has to get compared to what is, in some cases, you know, slop.” In an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “America Live”

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rep. Peter King is asking CIA director Gen. David Petraeus and White House national security adviser James Clapper to investigate whether a columnist for The Daily Beast received the same classified foreign policy briefings as President Barack Obama. “While I recognize that members of the Executive Branch provide background briefings to members of the media, I do not recall any occasion where a journalist received an intelligence briefing equivalent to that received by the President or the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., especially in the aftermath of a terrorist attack against U.S. personnel,”

Dressed in miniskirts barely covering their hips, the two girls took to the neon-lit stage and moved vigorously to the loud pumping pop music. Their job: to appease the wandering spirits. As the temple facade in the background changed colour from the fireworks lighting up the Taiwanese night sky, the show climaxed with pole-dancing and striptease in front of an audience consisting of men, women and children. Al-Qaida is rebuilding in Iraq and has set up training camps for insurgents in the nation's western deserts as the extremist group seizes on regional instability and government security failures to regain strength, officials say. Iraq has seen a jump in al-Qaida attacks over the last 10 weeks, and officials believe most of the fighters are former prisoners who have either escaped from jail or were released by Iraqi authorities for lack of evidence after the U.S. military withdrawal last December. Many are said to be Saudi or from Sunni-dominated Gulf states. During the war and its aftermath,

With new polls showing his campaign gaining momentum, Mitt Romney is venturing into what might be viewed as unfriendly territory, visiting counties in swing states that voted for President Barack Obama in 2008 and urging the president's supporters to switch sides. The strategy is crucial to the Republican nominee: With the pool of undecided voters now small, Mr. Romney's best path to building a majority includes stripping Mr. Obama of some of his more tentative supporters. (Snip) Mr. Romney campaigned last weekend in three counties in Florida that Mr. Obama carried in 2008. On Monday, he stumped in Newport News,

Last night, President Obama defiantly declared that "al Qaeda is on its heels." The president made this claim at a fundraiser at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, California. "Now, four years ago, I made a few commitments to you. I told you I’d end the war in Iraq, and I did. I said I’d end the war in Afghanistan, and we are," said Obama. "I said we’d refocus on the people who actually attacked us on 9/11 -- and today, al Qaeda is on its heels and Osama bin Laden is no more." The extraordinary

Vice President Joe Biden’s debate with Republican rival Paul Ryan will be dominated by questions about abortion and contraception if the American Civil Liberties Union’s attempts to pressure the debate moderator succeed. “[N]o topic needs to be discussed more than where the candidates stand on women’s access to reproductive healthcare,” the ACLU writes in an email to supporters. “Tell Martha Raddatz, the debate moderator, to make sure a woman’s right to make her own personal and private decisions isn’t ignored when Joe Biden and Paul Ryan debate.” The hook for the ACLU is that the topic

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (CBS SEATTLE) – Another controversy involving homosexuality is shaking the Boy Scouts of America. New allegations are coming from Ryan Andresen, a scout for the past 12 years who is claiming his homosexuality is preventing him from participating in the BSA. In July, the organization announced that it plans to continue its ban on gay membership after a two-year review of the divisive policy. Ryan is claiming that, despite more than a decade of service in the scouts, he is being denied the group’s highest honor — the Eagle Award — because he is gay.

If you have doubts about the official jobless rate, there's another rate you can check out instead--the "real" unemployment rate, which measures everybody considered unemployed plus a lot of others who are falling through the cracks. The government calls this the "U-6" rate, and it has become a source of considerable intrigue lately. Some critics of President Obama contend that the government keeps the "real" rate a secret, because it reveals an economy that's in far worse shape than the official unemployment rate suggests. (Snip) But the government's own U-6 measure is even higher, at 14.7 percent. That's the percentage

A small piece of NASA's Mars rover Curiosity has apparently fallen off into the Red Planet dirt, scientists announced today (Oct. 9). Curiosity team members spotted the odd bright object on Sunday (Oct. 7) while studying photos of the rover's first Martian soil-scooping activity. Curiosity then spent much of Monday photographing the scrap further, allowing researchers to determine that it likely came off the 1-ton rover — though they're still not sure what exactly it is, or if its absence will affect Curiosity's mission appreciably. "The rover team's assessment is that the bright object is something from the rover, not

Prior to the attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi late in the evening on Sept. 11, there was no protest outside the compound, a senior State Department official confirmed today, contradicting initial administration statements suggesting that the attack was an opportunistic reaction to unrest caused by an anti-Islam video. In a conference call with reporters Tuesday, two senior State Department officials gave a detailed accounting of the events that lead to the death of Amb. Chris Stevens and three other Americans. The officials said that prior to the massive attack on the Benghazi compound by dozens of

President Barack Obama told donors in San Francisco Monday that they should be proud of the progress made in the last four years, having referred to the unemployment rate dropping to the same point it was when he took office in January 2009. “We’ve got to look back at the progress we’ve made, and that should give us confidence,” Obama told the audience at the Bill Graham Auditorium in San Francisco. “But we have to understand we’ve got a lot more to do, and if we don’t do it, then change won’t happen.” Obama talked about several aspects

At the same time Team Obama released a childish ad hitting Mitt Romney for daring to consider removing multimillionaire, one-percenter Big Bird from the federal government welfare rolls, the Romney campaign released a devastating graphic that shows that since his debate debacle, Barack Obama has mention Big Bird and Elmo 13 times but has not mentioned Libya or his plan to fix the economy even once. A media that is obviously disappointed with Their Precious One's debate performance and recent collapse in the polls, is not at all happy with this silly and stupid Big Bird attack.

With a new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) report highlighting the threat of foreign online campaign donations making a buzz throughout the Beltway, Breitbart News has discovered blog entries on President Obama’s official website that highlight the pervasiveness of the problem. Just last week, a Canadian woman writing on President Obama’s official campaign website claims she made a campaign donation to the Obama campaign during the last election and that she intends to do so this time as well—a clear violation of U.S. election laws: “I had donated to the original campaign and will again,” she writes.

When Joe Biden meets Paul Ryan in Kentucky this week, it will be the 19th time in his political career on stage at either a presidential or vice presidential debate. That’s a fact the Romney campaign is stressing ahead of Thursday’s showdown at Centre College because it will be the first time Ryan, the Wisconsin congressman, has debated at that level. “This is Congressman Ryan’s first time on this big stage, so we’re taking preparation seriously,” Ryan spokesman Brendan Buck said Tuesday in a statement to The Daily Caller. While it’s very typical for campaigns to talk up the great

Could "liar, liar" backfire? The Obama campaign's feverish bid to cast Mitt Romney as "dishonest" on his tax-plan claims is running into headwinds ahead of the vital second presidential debate. Fact-checkers have been heavily scrutinizing the Obama campaign's logic. One economist chided the team for using his research to claim Romney's pushing a middle-class tax hike. And Republicans claim the "liar, liar" strategy is a sign of desperation after a tough debate, with just four weeks left on the clock until Election Day.

Let's start a little bit with Chicago. You're going to hire Michelle Obama, but you then meet Barack Obama at a dinner. Tell me a little bit about your first thoughts about this young man, because what happens eventually is that you really become very important to their lives. You sort of introduce them, to some extent, to Chicago politics. ... ... So 21 years ago this summer I met the president and the first lady. It was before they were married; they were engaged.
