HOUSTON - A man who lost a son to the war in Afghanistan is disappointed in the condolence letter he received from President Barack Obama. Tom Logan, a Willis resident, calls the note late, impersonal, disrespectful and essentially a form letter. "It opened up a wound in our heart you can't fix. You can't send another letter. You can't make it right," Logan said. Logan's son, USMC Cpl. Joseph D. Logan, was killed Jan. 19, 2012, along with five other men when the helicopter they were in crashed.

Contrary to campaign claim, Warren client sought to liquidate Cajun Electric Cooperative to aquire Big Cajun coal-fired plant. This is a GUEST POST by Matt J. Farley, an attorney in New Orleans, LA. The post was submitted at my request after noticing a comment Matt left in response to my post Elizabeth Warren helped protect Dow Chemical against breast implant claims. The comment disputed that Elizabeth Warren had accurately described her role in the Cajun Electric Power Coop bankruptcy case disclosed on a list of cases released by Warren minutes prior to the last debate.

Senior White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan was in Tripoli to meet Libyan officials Tuesday as the Obama administration continues trying to build a complete picture of the events which led up to a fatal attack on the U.S. Consulate in the eastern city of Benghazi. The visit by President Obama's senior counterterrorism adviser was leaked by a Libyan source to the media, to the consternation of White House officials who told CBS News correspondent Bill Plante the leak created a considerable security risk.

MINGORA, Pakistan – A Taliban gunman walked up to a bus taking children home from school in Pakistan's volatile Swat Valley on Tuesday and shot and wounded a 14-year-old activist known for championing the education of girls and publicizing atrocities committed by the Taliban, officials said. The attack in the city of Mingora targeted 14-year-old Malala Yousufzai, who is widely respected for her work to promote the schooling of girls -- something that the Taliban strongly opposes. She was nominated last year for the International Children's Peace Prize. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack,

As NewsBusters reported, Barack Obama did a lavish fundraiser at the Nokia Theater in Hollywood on Sunday. According to comedian Jimmy Kimmel, the President was in Los Angeles "with his agent taking meetings in case it doesn't work out next month" (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary). (Snip) Actually, as beloved as Obama is in Hollywood, he'll likely get job offers within minutes of his concession speech if Mitt Romney wins. Kimmel added, "The President was here for a fundraiser, a concert with Stevie Wonder, Katy Perry, Earth, Wind and Fire,

On top of all the other magic he works, Scott Rasmussen also conducts a daily poll of the eleven swing states won by Obama in 2008 and considered competitive today. This includes Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin. Romney has not been in the lead in this poll since Sept. 19. As recently as last week, Obama was 4 to 6 points ahead. Today, Romney is up by 2, 49-46%. In 2008, Obama won these states 53 to 46%. Rasmussen calls this swing, "[A] significant change. Regardless of whether President Barack Obama wins in November, The New York Times’ David Brooks says he expects a serious “Draft Hillary” movement in 2016. Appearing on Alec Baldwin’s WNYC “Here’s The Thing” podcast, where just last month George Will said that Hillary Clinton’s political career is all but over, Brooks pointed to what he called the Democrats’ “reasonably weak bench” as one reason to not count out the Secretary the State’s future White House chances. “First of all, I think the Democrats have a reasonably weak bench for 2016

President Barack Obama counts on a November 4, made for television movie to push him over the finish line on November 6. “Obama killed Osama” is the message they want carried down to the voting booth; Obama’s sort of last word from the boob-tube after gazillions of text messages sent out over his free cell phones. “Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama bin Laden” is being touted as an example of the president’s leadership. Mitt Romney's post-debate surge appears to have all but wiped out President Obama's once double-digit lead among women voters. A new Pew Research Center survey depicted a remarkable swing in the numbers, with Romney pulling even among women in polling late last week. In September, the same polling outfit showed Obama leading by 18 points among women. Among all likely voters surveyed, Romney climbed from an 8-point deficit last month to a 4-point lead. There's little question that his debate performance has played a role. A separate Gallup survey showed registered voters deemed Romney

The Bureau of Labor Statistics said the unemployment rate dropped from 8.1% in August to 7.8% in September, after having been over 8% for the previous 43 months. In fact, this latest figure puts the unemployment rate exactly back to where it was in the month of President Obama's inauguration. On its face, that is not necessarily suspicious (snip)But here is what I do think is suspicious: the raw employment level of the Household Survey. That number gets seasonally adjusted

President Barack Obama is telling supporters that with one month to go, it is time for them to get "almost obsessive." (Snip) But he says it will require supporters to mobilize every resource they can think of to help him. He encourages those who given him cash to do more by sending emails, making phone calls, and reaching out to cousins or uncles or friends in the battleground states that will decide the election. The Senate race between Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren is being shaped by the efforts of a blogger, Professor William Jacobson, of Legal Insurrection. This very high profile race reveals how important the internet has become to political discourse. Once upon a time, only newspapers could launch inquiries and crusades that determined the fate of powerful politicians, but now a single, intelligent, skilled, and determined individual like Jacobson can take on the might of the liberal establishment in Massachusetts

Sandusky, 68, appeared today before Common Pleas Court Judge John Cleland wearing an orange jumpsuit and white sneakers. The hearing in state court in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania came almost four months after he was found guilty of abusing 10 boys over a 15 year-period. He was convicted on 45 counts. A Western New England College poll released earlier this week found Brown trailing, 50 percent to 45 percent. In the WBUR poll, Brown maintains a big favorability advantage: 54 percent of Bay Staters have a favorable image of him, compared with 31 percent who view him negatively. For Warren, those numbers are 47 percent and 38 percent. There are bright spots for Warren. When asked about what they are considering

For decades, if not centuries, America's top religious brand has been "Protestant." No more. In the 1960s, two in three Americans called themselves Protestant. Now the Protestant group -- both evangelical and mainline -- has slid below the statistical waters, down to 48%, from 53% in 2007. Where did they go? Nowhere, actually. They didn't switch to a new religious brand, they just let go of any faith affiliation or label.

With internet available worldwide, the U.S. could overcome Islamists through the media, but for that, it needs confident leadership that believes in Western human rights and values. Can it be that Islam is in its death throes? This can make Islamists more dangerous than ever. Nevertheless, if America relegates Obama to the political wilderness, the U.S. should go on the ideological offensive against Islam as it did when it inaugurated the Voice of America (VOA) and beamed its radio programs into Russia and the communist-dominated states of Eastern Europe.

Continuing a series of broad policy speeches that began 10 months ago, Gov. Not surprisingly, approaching the next presidential debate Oct. 16, which will focus on foreign affairs, Romney drew stark contrasts with what he described as the passive policy approach followed by Barack Obama that has left both allies and potential foes wondering about American resolve around the world.

In the very best postmodern fashion, Obama and his supporters have relied on a narrative about Obama that has been carefully constructed. He’s brilliant, a great writer, a rare thinker, a moderate, a first-class temperament with neatly pressed pants, a uniter, a cool guy who’s unflappable. The first debate last Wednesday threatened to make that narrative seem absurd. You might say that the narrative got mugged by reality, and an awful lot of people were watching while it happened. But the next day there was a new narrative in place — or rather, several narratives:

It would be inconceivable for Barack Obama to appoint a man who had praised the Ku Klux Klan to a commission discussing race relations; what he has actually done, however, is all too predictable.
