Pew Poll: Mitt Romney Storms
Into The Lead Over Obama

In a shocking one-month swing, Mitt Romney stormed into the lead over President Barack Obama in a new Pew Research poll conducted after Romney's consensus victory in the first presidential debate. The poll finds a 11-point swing among likely voters. In Pew's last poll, conducted in the middle of September, Obama led Romney 51-43 among likely voters. Now, Romney leads 49-46. The shift is due to Romney shoring up key areas of strength among likely voters and improving his overall image, much of which can be attributed to his strang debate performance. Sixty-six percent of voters thought

President Obama touted it in 2010 as evidence "manufacturing jobs are coming back to the United States,” but two years later, a Michigan hybrid battery plant built with $150 million in taxpayer funds is putting workers on furlough before a single battery has been produced. Workers at the Compact Power manufacturing facilities in Holland, Mich., run by LG Chem, have been placed on rotating furloughs, working only three weeks per month based on lack of demand for lithium-ion cells. The facility, which was opened in July 2010 with a groundbreaking attended by Obama, has yet to produce a single battery

Mitt Romney won the first presidential debate by a whopping 52-point margin according to Gallup - the most resounding margin since the polling giant began tracking debates 20 years ago. The stunning judgement on the debate came as a bombshell Pew national poll put Romney four points ahead of President Barack Obama by 49 to 45 points - a huge swing of 12 points from mid-September, when Pew found Obama leading by 51 to 43 points. In Gallup debate results published today, three times more people thought Romney did a better job

Swanton, Ohio - After three days of intensive debate prep, a crisper Paul Ryan focused on foreign policy emerged today, in lockstep with Mitt Romney on what the GOP challengers for the presidency claim are the Obama administration’s many purported failings overseas. Just minutes after his running mate finished his own foreign policy address, Ryan took the stage at an airplane hangar here and echoed many of the same points Mitt Romney made in his own speech in Virginia. (Snip) “Four Americans were murdered in a terrorist attack in Benghazi,” Ryan said. “The point is, in a Romney administration, when

Irish immigrants helped build Canada since its early days. They are now being asked to pitch in again. A job fair over the weekend in Dublin, at which Canada and Canadian companies were well represented, drew nearly 8,000 job-hungry Irish hoping to escape hard times on the Emerald Isle. Last week something notable happened. The Daily Caller, a conservative Web site, came up with a tape of President Obama speaking in the spring of 2007 to an audience of black ministers about matters of concern to black ministers and their black congregants. Niagara Falls, On. - The last day of Marineland’s operating season drew hundreds of protesters outside the Niagara tourist attraction’s gates on Sunday and escalated when about 150 people stormed inside, yelling “shut it down.” Organizers said they hadn’t planned to enter the park but set up a demonstration outside in hopes of keeping attention on sea mammal captivity in Canada, even after Marineland shuts down for the winter. The protest, which appeared to draw a crowd of at least 500 at its peak, follows a Star investigation that reported accounts by former trainers who blamed poor water quality and

Sarah Palin has a message for the “haters” who sent daughter Bristol Palin threatening packages on the set of “Dancing With the Stars” last week: Don’t waste your time. The proud mom and former vice presidential candidate took to her Facebook account today and slammed whoever anonymously sent “mysterious white powder” to the “DWTS” all-star season set in California. The package reportedly contained a note threatening the “Dancing With the Stars” producers if Palin is not removed from the show. “These threats sure waste a lot of time, production and public resources; but do the haters really think

Mitt Romney’s foreign policy address Monday hammered home his argument that voters should oust an in-over-his-head President Obama. With 29 days to go before Election Day, Romney worked hard to capitalize on a strong debate performance last week that polls suggest has voters giving his candidacy a second look. A Pew Research poll released Monday afternoon showed Romney with a 4-point lead. The best response to all that's strange, mysterious or just surprising may be a smile. But the news of late has reduced me to the one-word question and expletive favored by "Mad Men's" Don Draper whenever he's confronted by anything that doesn't make sense: What?! Take the sheer number of fabrications Barack Obama managed to pack into one response to a simple question on CBS' "60 Minutes." To swallow them all would require a boxcar of salt.

WASHINGTON- As the White House race shows signs of tightening nationally, President Barack Obama's campaign is banking on a massive get-out-the-vote operation and state-by-state shades of economic improvement to maintain its apparent polling edge in battlegrounds from Ohio to Virginia. Republican Mitt Romney, re-energized by last week's debate, is flashing new confidence on the campaign trail and pressing toward the political center on both foreign and domestic issues. But aides have outlined no clear path to winning the 270 Electoral College votes required to gain the White House. "Things are going pretty good," the usually cautious Romney

The Obama campaign released news on Saturday morning of a holiday weekend, that it had raised a massive $181 million in September. It's a staggering sum heading into the final month of campaigning. It almost equals his fundraising for July and August combined. But details about Obama's fundraising windfall and a new report this morning from the Government Accountability Institute (GAI) raise troubling questions. Specifically, how much of this fundraising was illegal? GAI found that Obama's donation page doesn't use any industry-standard credit card security measures.

How the small crates reached Aleppo is unknown, and the BBC was not allowed to film their contents. Saudi Arabia has refused to comment on the matter. Meanwhile, a big blast has been heard in a suburb of the capital, Damascus. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based activist group, said

The latest Pew poll showing former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney ahead of President Obama among likely voters has the potential to rapidly re-orient conventional wisdom about the challenger’s chances of winning. Of course, this is a single poll — although Gallup’s latest tracking also shows movement toward Romney since last Wednesday’s debate — and, as such, should be taken cum grano salis. Still, it’s a major shot in the arm for a Romney campaign that 10 days ago was fighting off “Is it all over?” stories. While the topline numbers in the Pew survey are sexy — politically speaking,

Art hardly ever comes up as a campaign issue in presidential elections. But once voters decide, the artistic tastes of the first family become well known from the pieces they choose to adorn the White House. Barack Obama has long taken pride in his artistic interests, taking Michelle to the Art Institute of Chicago on their first date, where he impressed his future wife with his knowledge of both the old masters and modern art. When the couple moved into the White House, they selected bright, sharp, modern abstractions for the most part, from artists such as

In September, the poll found Obama leading Romney among likely voters 51 percent to 43 percent.

Mitt Romney's debate performance pushed him into a national lead over President Obama among likely voters, Pew Research Center reports in its latest poll numbers. Romney is leading Obama 49 percent to 45 percent in a poll taken over four days after the debate last week, even though in mid-September, Obama was leading Romney by 8 percentage points. There's a ton of good news for Romney in this poll: Two-thirds of registered voters think Romney won the debate, while only a fifth think Obama did. Romney's favorable rating hit 50 percent among registered voters for the first time.

By about three-to-one, voters say Romney did a better job than Obama in the Oct. 3 debate, and the Republican is now better regarded on most personal dimensions and on most issues than he was in September. Romney is seen as the candidate who has new ideas and is viewed as better able than Obama to improve the jobs situation and reduce the budget deficit. Fully 66% of registered voters say Romney did the better job in last Wednesday’s debate, compared with just 20% who say Obama
