Michelle Obama: 'I rarely

Politico, by Jennifer Epstein    Original Article

First lady Michelle Obama says she stays out of the way of most of her husband's work, trusting the president's advisers to counsel him on policy issues. "I rarely step foot in the West Wing. In fact people are shocked when they see me there," she said in an interview with ABC News's Cynthia McFadden set to air Monday. "I rarely walk in that office because the truth is he's got so many wonderful advisers. He's got a phenomenal cabinet. He's got people who are in the trenches on these issues every single day and I'm kind of stepping

Albright: Romney would

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said that, in her role as a Georgetown professor, she would give Mitt Romney a C on a recent foreign policy op-ed in the Wall Street Journal. "I'm a professor," Albright said on a Monday conference call organized by the Obama campaign. "If one of my students turned it in, they'd get a C." "I just find him very shallow," she said. Romney expanded on the ideas in his op-ed in a Monday foreign policy speech at the Virginia Military Institute — where he laid out the case against President Obama's

The Romney Doctrine

Governor Romney’s speech today at Virginia Military Institute is important because it begins to sketch the Romney doctrine — and will vanquish any doubts on where he stands in respect of foreign policy. It was both an eloquent and substantive statement, delivered at an inspiring institution. In tone and substance it was strong but not swaggering. It reminded us of Reagan’s foreign policy vision, which the man who became the 40th president articulated against, in Jimmy Carter, a faltering president who reminds us increasingly of Barack Obama. Both Messrs. Carter and Obama reached out solicitously to our adversaries

The president’s top campaign staffers changed his reelection strategy while he was still on the debate-podium during his losing debate against Gov Mitt Romney, according to an article in The New York Times. “On the conference call convened by aides in Denver and Chicago even as the candidates were still on stage… In just minutes, they reversed a longstanding strategic decision,” without the president’s involvement, according to the Oct. 8 article. “At the start of the campaign they had decided to attack Mr. Romney as a committed conservative rather than a flip-flopper, but now they decided to

"The headlines are talking about how you and I got beat again by the other side in fundraising," President Obama wrote in an email to supporters in August. "Those headlines aren't going away. I will be outspent in this election." "You may have heard chatter from the other side about the President's so-called 'billion-dollar war chest,'" campaign manager Jim Messina wrote in a separate fundraising email in December. "[T]hey're misleading you. We do not and will not have a billion-dollar war chest." Someone call the fact-checkers:

Wedding brawl gives

In Philadelphia, a wedding brawl with three arrests and a fatal heart attack, was simply another wild story. But around the country, the must-see video, shot by a teen celebrating a birthday, seems to be reinforcing old stereotypes that the City That Threw Snowballs at Santa Claus (way back in 1968) could still use some anger management training. The story was showcased on Yahoo's home page this morning, and the comments were too predictable: "OMG!!! A wedding brawl! Oh wait..its in Philly? Yea, no news here." "Fortunately i dont come from or have relatives in Philly, what a sick city.

President Obama claims that tax increases will help close the deficit, but a majority of Americans believe he intends to use the money for increased spending, according to a new survey. “You can’t reduce the deficit unless you take a balanced approach that says, ‘We’ve gotta make government leaner and more efficient,’” Obama told CBS last month. “But we’ve also got to ask people – like me or Gov. Romney, who have done better than anybody else over the course of the last decade, and whose taxes are just about lower than they’ve been in the last 50 years

I noted earlier Peter Schweizer’s comprehensive report on the vulnerability of the Obama campaign, among others, to foreign and fraudulent campaign contributions. That the Obama campaign has left itself wide open to contributions from foreign nationals is particularly galling given the concern the president and his senior advisers have expressed over such contributions. In his 2010 State of the Union Address, the president slammed the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision because, “I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities.” Let’s go to the tape:

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) says federal regulators need to investigate whether gasoline companies are illegally coordinating price increases in California. Feinstein wants the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to probe gasoline wholesalers after prices for a premium blend of gasoline shot up 97 cents per gallon last week. She says gasoline traders might have maliciously shorted the market, a claim those traders denied. Specifically, Feinstein wants the FTC to create a permanent oversight committee to monitor oil markets and gasoline prices. She also wants the FTC to enhance its gasoline and oil market data collection and analysis.

The president, fundraising in Los Angeles, addressed energy during a $25,000-per-plate dinner with backers that included actor George Clooney. “On energy, I’m big on oil and gas, and developing clean coal technology, but I also believe that if we’re ever going to have control of our energy future, then we’ve got to invest in solar and wind and biofuels, and that it does make sense for us to double our

The unraveling of President Obama, captured on live television and watched by some 70 million Americans, brings to mind a tale of a proud and pretentious emperor whose only care in life was to dress in elegant clothes. In case you’ve forgotten, two tailors appear with the most extraordinary cloth, invisible to anyone too stupid or incompetent to see. The emperor’s minions all pretend they can see it, so he does, too. When he parades across the kingdom in his new suit, the masses also pretend they see it. But a little boy blurts out,

Mitt Romney has a 40-point lead over President Obama among active and reserve service members, according to a new poll from the Military Times. The survey found Romney with a wide 66-26 lead that is similar to the advantage enjoyed by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) over Obama in the 2008 race. For military voters, the economy was by far the most important issue, with 41 percent of respondents saying it was most important issue for them in the 2012 race. National security came in at just 16 percent. The Military Times poll surveyed 3,100 active duty,

They are expressions of a larger struggle that is playing out across the broader Middle East — a region that is now in the midst of the most profound upheaval in a century. And the fault lines of this struggle can be seen clearly in Benghazi itself.” Romney continues, “The attack on our Consulate

Given the shellacking Barack Obama took at last week's presidential debate with Mitt Romney, one would have thought NBC's Saturday Night Live would have had no difficulty finding material to spoof the event. Not so according to New York magazine which published a piece Monday entitled "Unlike the Rest of the World, SNL Had a Hard Time Joking About the Debate": In an unusual move, NBC allowed the New York Times to sit in on SNL's writing and rehearsal process last week. The paper reports that mining the debates for comedy was surprisingly difficult,

Political signs on private residential property are unlikely to sway undecided voters, but they do say something about the owners' personal values. Lawn maintenance and general property upkeep also reflect one's values. After casually surveying my neighborhood during my daily jogging jaunts, I noticed a pattern: Unkempt lawns have more signs supporting Democrat candidates, whereas neat properties proudly sport signs favoring Republican candidates.

Suburbanites of Ohio, listen up. As swing voters in the ultimate swing state, you will have an outsized impact on this election. President Obama has pledged to govern in the interests of middle-class voters like you. With so much resting on your shoulders, that is a promise you should scrutinize with care. What exactly are Obama’s plans for Ohio’s suburban communities? The answer may shock you. President Obama aims to help Ohio’s Democrats bail out your state’s struggling cities by forcibly transferring suburban tax money to urban treasuries. It’s a bold plan to redistribute the wealth of Ohio’s suburbs.

A groundbreaking new report raises serious questions as to whether President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign is knowingly, and illegally, accepting and soliciting donations from foreign nationals. The Government Accountability Institute (GAI), run by Stanford University research fellow Peter Schweizer, conducted an extensive, six-month investigation examining the potential for fraudulent and foreign funds being funneled to U.S. political campaigns via the Internet. The “alarming” results detailed in the report, GAI found, highlight “a serious and systemic threat to the integrity of the U.S. election system” that demands a full-scale investigation by federal authorities.

According to a new Gallup poll of those who watched last week's presidential debate, 72% picked Mitt Romney as the winner, while only 20% thought Barack Obama won. That''s the biggest win in history, exceeding even Bill Clinton's 42% advantage in his townhall debate over George H.W. Bush (the one where Bush checked his watch). The numbers on Romney vs. Obama reflect those of snap opinion polls. According to Gallup, Republicans gave him a 95% win over Obama, Independents picked him, 70%-19%, and even Democrats thought Romney won, 49%-39%. But does that really matter?
