A new report obtained by Townhall from the non-partisan Government Accountability Institute [GAI] shows the Obama campaign has potentially violated federal election law by failing to prevent the use of fraudulent or foreign credit card transactions on the official Obama for America [OFA] donation webpage. For the past eight months, GAI has been investigating the potential influence of foreign online campaign donations in House, Senate and presidential elections. The report was conducted using spidering software and found thousands of foreign sites linking to campaign donation pages. The investigation was conducted with the guidance of a former U.S. attorney.

Mitt Romney sure did what he needed to do in last week’s debate. He ran rings around the president, who looked half the time like he was barely interested in being there. A number of—no, most of—Romney’s assertions about his plans were false or misleading. But Barack Obama failed utterly to rebut them. Those 90 minutes made it a new race. This week, the spotlight turns to Joe Biden and Paul Ryan, who square off Thursday. We know what Biden is capable of, for good and for ill. Author's name removed from headline by staff

“The past is never dead,” William Faulkner said, “it’s not even past.” The progressives’ fury over Obama’s meltdown in last week’s debate, and their desperate efforts to get him reelected by any means possible, have to be understood in the context of the long history of the left’s attempt to impose its ideology on the United States. Though successful at capturing the universities, schools, popular culture, and most churches the left still lusts for the presidency, where the real power lies to change America in line with their ideology.

TAMPA -- Much of Rep. Connie Mack IV's U.S. Senate campaign is summed up in a single phrase he repeats in nearly every stump speech: His opponent, Sen. Bill Nelson, is "a lockstep liberal with Barack Obama." Over and over he blames "Barack Obama and Sen. Nelson" for what Republicans call failures on health care, foreign policy and the economy. "If Mitt Romney wins, I win. If I win, Mitt Romney wins," he adds. The Fort Myers Republican's clear strategy is tying Nelson to a president Mack believes is unpopular in Florida. But is Nelson, a Democrat seeking his third

According to a piece published in today's New York Times, President Barack Obama "views" Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney "with disdain." The admission comes in a piece about how Obama is retooling for the next debate after getting demolished by Romney in the last one, and how his campaign is now putting faith in Vice President Joe Biden's performance this Thursday against Rep. Paul Ryan, the Republican vice presidential candidate. "Like other presidents, Mr. Obama’s debate preparations were hindered by his day job, his practice sessions often canceled or truncated because of events, advisers said.

On another thread, one of the regular conservative commenters here whom I consider to be generally thoughtful let fly with this blast of gas about President Obama: He has been incompetence personified...Obama has been an abject failure. What is this? Pre-election insanity, fear and frenzy seizing control of otherwise sensible individuals? Reasonable Republicans suddenly channeling the angry, paranoia of their party's fringe? It's sad and a little scary. I'm not saying there aren't reasons to support Romney over Obama and not reasons to be disappointed in Obama.

Peter Schweizer’s Government Accountability Institute is out with a report today on foreign and fraudulent campaign contributions. It is the most comprehensive treatment of the issue to date. The key findings relate to the Obama campaign: The Obama campaign lacks the “industry standard level” of credit card security for donations The website Obama.com was purchased by an Obama bundler based in Shanghai, China, with questionable ties to state-run enterprises 68% of the traffic to Obama.com is foreign, and the site was linked to a specific donation page

A report from the conservative Government Accountability Institute (GAI) which found Barack Obama’s re-election campaign likely broke federal law by soliciting campaign contributions from overseas also took some issue with GOP candidate Mitt Romney’s campaign finance apparatus. Unlike Obama’s campaign, Romney requires online credit card donors to input Card Verification Value (CVV) data consisting of “a three or four digit number generally imprinted on the back of the card” in order “to verify that the person executing the purchase physically possesses the card.”

Last night, the Obama campaign blasted out another email claiming that Mitt Romney's tax plan would either require raising taxes on the middle class or blowing a hole in the deficit. "Even the studies that Romney has cited to claim his plan adds up still show he would need to raise middle-class taxes," said the Obama campaign press release. "In fact, Harvard economist Martin Feldstein and Princeton economist Harvey Rosen both concede that paying for Romney’s tax cuts would require large tax increases on families making between $100,000 and $200,000." But that's not true. Princeton professor Harvey Rosen tells

In 2008, President Barack Obama won the independent vote over John McCain by a margin of eight points, 52-44. This morning, a new Battleground Poll has Mitt Romney massacring Obama among indies by a whopping 16 points, 51-35. That's a 24-point swing among independents since 2008, a group that makes up anywhere from a quarter to a third of voters, and yet Battleground still has Obama in the lead 49-48…? (Snip)The Battleground Poll also shows an 13 point enthusiasm gap in Romney's favor. Only 73% of Obama's supporters are "extremely likely" to vote, compared to 86% of Romney's supporters. At a conference dinner last night--before we all indulged ourselves by sharing our view of what the Prime Minister must say in his speech--the guests mingled in the bar, introducing themselves to each other. Our host was a public-relations company, and most of the other participants worked in some form of communications. I admitted to one woman that though my badge says Telegraph, I was really in Birmingham as a normal party activist. "What on earth made you join the Conservative Party?" she asked me. It's a good question, and I suppose there are as many answers as there are

A 10,000-capacity ‘mega-mosque’, which will be the size of Battersea Power Station, has been planned for West Ham, near the Olympic Park in east London. The mosque will hold four times as many worshippers as St Paul’s Cathedral, have an Islamic library, sports facilities and eight flats for visiting clerics. Architects have described the mosque as a ‘contemporary Islamic sacred space’. The plan has been submitted by Tablighi Jamaat, a Muslim missionary movement once described as an ''ante-chamber of fundamentalism''. Content and location added by staff

Mitt Romney declared in last week’s presidential debate that he’d do away with the Public Broadcasting Service. Maybe it was because he’d been given an advance look at “Frontline’s” essential election primer, “The Choice 2012”. (Snip) Consider “The Choice,” which views Romney as a shape- shifting businessman, “a turnaround specialist” who “crafted himself to meet the politics of the moment.” Barack Obama is an astute, if pie-in-the-sky, politician, “whose promise to unite the country ran into the harsh reality of politics.”

President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign has been soliciting foreigners for donations, an explosive report from the conservative Government Accountability Institute (GAI) shows. Those foreign donors are allegedly visiting the Obama campaign’s donation solicitation Web pages through a social media website the campaign controls, and through an outside website that serves mostly Internet users from outside the United States. About 20 percent of visitors to the “my.barackobama.com” social media website “originated from foreign locations,” the report found. That Web address is owned and controlled by the Obama re-election campaign. “At no point during the [website's] subscription process

The Internet and social media sites like Facebook and Twitter have democratized elections, made the world more interconnected, and allowed the velocity of information to be faster than ever before. But an extensive eight-month investigation by the Government Accountability Institute (GAI) released on Monday found these same forces can also be the greatest threat to America’s sovereignty (visit campaignfundingrisks.com to download the full report). These technologies allow foreign donors to anonymously circumvent U.S. campaign finance laws and directly influence elections by donating repeatedly

For sale: a college education for $10,000 or less. Texas Gov. Rick Perry is renewing his call for such lower-cost undergraduate degrees, in what he hopes will be the state's signature response to the national problem of rising college tuition and student debt. "A $10,000 degree provides an opportunity for students to earn a low-cost, high-quality degree that will get them where they want to go in their careers and their lives," the Republican governor said in a statement last week. The governor has repeatedly urged schools to find ways to teach students more efficiently.

A week ago, Tucker Carlson cued up a video of President Obama that had been sent to him by a source. The video, recorded in 2007 when Mr. Obama was a presidential candidate, showed him speaking to a black audience about “quiet riots” in the black community and the differences in the federal government’s responses to the Sept. 11 attacks and Hurricane Katrina.Mr. Carlson had covered the speech before — back in 2007, when he was the host of a daily talk show on MSNBC.

Based on his commanding debate performance, Republican Mitt Romney has erased President Obama's lead in the most recent days to pull into a tie among registered voters nationally in a brand-new Gallup Tracking Poll. Gallup's standard tracking poll uses a seven-day rolling average, in this case, the night of the debate and three nights on either side. Obama enjoyed a four- to six-point lead during the three days before the Oct. 3 Denver debate. But in the three days after, that lead evaporated into a dead heat at 47% each.

Can there be political bubbles like financial bubbles? Financial bubbles, inflated by hopes and dreams, burst when reality negates any possibility that those hopes and dreams will be realized. At that point, sky high stock or bond or real estate prices come crashing down to earth. Can the same thing happen in politics? Can a skilled politician, who has become popular with soaring rhetoric and promises, deflate when it starts becoming clear that he is not going to deliver? Of course, I am thinking about our president.
