The politically incorrect rapper Snoop Dog put his two cents in the heated national debate leading up to the November election, posting online a foul-mouthed yet funny list of reasons why he would vote for Barack Obama over Mitt Romney. The 40-year-old hip hop-turned-reggae artist, who had recently changed his name to Snoop Lion, posted a photo of the handwritten list originally created by @DragonflyJonez on Friday. The number one justification for not voting for the Republican candidate is that ‘He is a white n**ga,’ followed by: ‘He looks like he says 'n**ga' all the time.’

Washington - CBS News has learned that congressional investigators have issued a subpoena to a former top security official at the US mission in Libya. The official is Lt. Col. Andy Wood, a Utah National Guard Army Green Beret who headed up a Special Forces "Site Security Team" in Libya. The subpoena compels Lt. Col. Wood to appear at a House Oversight Committee hearing next week that will examine security decisions leading up to the Sept. 11 Muslim extremist terror assault on the U.S. compound at Benghazi. U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three of his colleagues were killed in the

A delegation of House Democrats is urging President Barack Obama’s administration to extend an exemption on Iran sanctions—a move that could allow certain groups linked to terrorism to benefit from American philanthropic donations, experts say. Twelve lawmakers, including Muslim Rep. Keith Ellison (D., Minn.), petitioned the Obama administration Thursday to extend a temporary waiver permitting various organizations and individuals to skirt U.S. sanctions on Iran. The waiver, set to expire Oct. 5, enabled American-based nonprofit groups to expedite the “donation of funds” and shipment of “humanitarian relief” to Iranian charities that are purportedly helping their citizens recover from a deadly

The first presidential debate of 2012 is now behind us. The reviews suggest that many were surprised at how well Mitt Romney did and how weakly President Obama performed. (Snip) Romney's comments in the debate were designed to have people rethink that assessment and reverse the trend. He said that the status quo "is not going to cut it" and talked of the need to find a "new path." He added that "under the president's policies, middle-income Americans have been buried. They're just being crushed. Middle-income Americans have seen their income come down by $4,300. This is a tax in

Bottled water is everywhere — in backpacks, on desks, in cars. When I was younger, no one carried water unless they were going hiking. Why the demand for bottled water now? I have a theory. Americans eat about twice the salt they did three to four decades ago. Most of it is hidden in all the canned, boxed, packaged and processed foods we open at home and eat in restaurants. Eating excess salt makes you thirsty and causes your body to hold more water. It’s like filling up a water balloon. As your body holds

A federal judge ordered the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Agency to begin displaying controversial anti-jihad advertisements beginning Monday in Washington DC, The Washington Post reported on Saturday. The decision came Friday, in a one-page ruling by US District Judge Rosemary Collyer, granting an injunction to the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) that sought to force Metro to display provocative posters in four stations, the Washington Post reported, even though the transit agency has worried the ads might incite violence. The posters were scheduled to be displayed for a month starting Sept. 24, but were delayed until the court decision.

Depew, N.Y. - For everyone pining for a sweeping deficit deal after the election, Speaker John Boehner has a message. Don’t hold your breath. In an interview here, the Ohio Republican said cobbling together a large-scale deal during the lame duck session of Congress would not only be hard, but also the wrong thing for the country. “I think that’s difficult to do,” Boehner said when asked about the prospects for a large-scale deficit deal in November and December. “You know, and frankly, I’m not sure it’s the right thing to do – have a lot of retiring members and

(Snip) Spain recently revealed more austerity in its 2013 budget, which will likely have to be modified to include deeper cuts when over-optimistic macroeconomic growth assumptions don't materialize. Spain also announced a 60 billion euro capital shortfall across its national banking system, but the macroeconomic assumptions used in that test are likely too optimistic as well. On top of that, more bank capital will continue to be destroyed as the Spanish

Beirut - Turkey and Syria traded artillery fire for the fourth day in a row Saturday as rebels clashed with President Bashar Assad's forces near the border, heightening fears that the crisis could erupt into a regional conflict. Also Saturday, Syrian Defense Minister Gen. Fahd Jassem al-Freij vowed to crush the rebellion and bring the violence that has engulfed the country to an end. The diplomatic crisis began on Wednesday, when a Syrian shell killed five civilians in a Turkish border town and triggered unprecedented artillery strikes by Turkey. Ankara has deployed more troops to its southern border with Syria,

Federal authorities in the United States have been quietly supporting certain Mexican criminal empires, especially the Sinaloa drug cartel, in a bid to solidify the syndicates’ reign as dominant powerbrokers in particular territories, according to leaked e-mails from a U.S.-based Mexican diplomat to the private intelligence firm Stratfor. If cartel chiefs cooperate with authorities, “governments will allow controlled drug trades,” the diplomatic source wrote. Other information unearthed so far in the leak, much of it coming from a variety of sources, was equally explosive. Contrary to reports, there is no hyperinflation in Iran right now at all. In fact, the Western sanctions imposed on Iran's oil trade are failing miserably to meet their objectives. And a regime collapse – or even, coming short of that, another popular uprising reminiscent of June 2009 – seems further away from Iran than ever. Meanwhile, the Iranian regime is using the current sanctions imposed against it by the West as a weapon to weaken its own fiercest domestic threat – the educated, relatively pro-Western Iranian constituency that comprises the middle class.

Atlanta - Americans have been moving from the country to the city for decades, so maybe it’s not surprising that researchers are finding a similar pattern among other North American apex predators. New research suggests mountain lions and bears may be following the urban pioneering of raccoons, foxes and, most notably, coyotes as they slowly encroach on major US metro areas from New Jersey to California. In the case of coyotes, they don’t even mind the density, with some coyote packs now confining themselves to territories of a third of a square mile.

The best news for President Obama is that the unemployment rate has steadily fallen in an election year, and had a big drop today. At a campaign event today, Mitt Romney sought to play down the significance of these numbers. (Snip) In other words, if the Civilian Participation Rate had stayed constant this year, today's level of employment would translate to 8.35 percent unemployment. Last December's unemployment rate was 8.5 percent. Thousands of President Obama supporters turned out in in Madison, Wisc., for a rally following Wednesday night’s debate in Denver. The mood was somber, to say the least, as they waited to enter Bascom Mall at the University of Wisconsin Thursday afternoon. University of Wisconsin students and fellow Wisconsinites had mixed reviews on the president's performance. I talked to supporters of the president who had watched the debate, asking how they thought the president did. One after the other said they were left unimpressed and “not inspired,” seemingly depressed and lethargic in their continuing support of the president.

The Obama campaign dropped a bombshell this morning. It announced that, combined with the DNC, the campaign raised a staggering $181 million in September. The windfall is a huge increase over July and August, when the campaign raised around $100 million, although it is slightly down from the $193 million it raised in September 2008. The news should raise eyebrows. The campaign said that just over 1.8 million people made donations to the campaign last month. According to the campaign, over 500k of these were brand-new donors, having neither given in 2008 nor 2012.
