'New Girl' Applauds Romney
Family-Without Sucker Punches

Conservative TV viewers know what to expect from today's programs. If a series brings up a political topic chances are it will be from a left of center perspective. Conservative positions are often considered wrong or offensive. If, heaven forbid, a show introduces a GOP politician into the plot things may just get nasty. So when "New Girl," Fox's sophomore sitcom, brought up the Romneys this week it's understandable why fans of the GOP presidential candidate might flinch. Experience taught them to react in such a fashion.

Mika Brzezinski: Why Can’t

Performance Onto Campaign Trail?

The folks at Morning Joe had a lot of positive things to say about Mitt Romney‘s debate performance, with host Mika Brzezinski wondering why it is that the GOP candidate hasn’t been able to translate that passion onto the campaign trail. Fellow host Willie Geist was pleased that the debate included two very smart candidates with two different visions for America, but felt that Obama simply wasn’t prepared for “this” Romney. “It was like he had a lot of coffee before the debate, and he just was going after the President,” Brzezinski said of Romney’s performance.

Okay, who thinks President Obama should have taken his wife out for their anniversary instead of debating Mitt Romney? With or without the sound off, Romney dominated the first presidential debate in Denver on Wednesday night. He came off as ready, reasonable, and crucially, not even a little bit of a doofus. The president, on the other hand, looked like he would rather have been anywhere else, and perhaps in an effort to avoid one of those “You’re likable enough, Hillary,” outbreaks of flaming smarty-pants-itis, let his rival get away with a lot: He was even unaggressive in challenging

"Obama arrived in Denver at 2 p.m. today — just a few hours before the debate started," Gore said on his network, Current. "Romney did his debate prep in Denver. When you go to 5,000 feet, and you only have a few hours to adjust, I don't know..." "The president had an off night," a pundit on the liberal network said.

Mitt Romney dominated and Barack Obama stumbled in Denver Wednesday night. What went right for Romney and wrong for the president? These things: Romney arrived with a strategic plan; Obama didn’t. Romney was quick on his feet; Obama slow on his feet. Romney showed EQ as well as IQ; Obama didn’t. Let's take them in reverse order. Emotional Intelligence vs. Plain Old Intelligence. Romney, the multimillionaire, arrived in a suit, shirt and tie that looked like they’d been purchased at Macy’s. I doubt he’ll ever wear them again, but for one night, he looked the way most non-zillionaires look when they dress for business.

Breaking from two decades of tradition, this year’s election exit poll is set to include surveys of voters in 31 states, not all 50 as it has for the past five presidential elections, according to multiple people involved in the planning. Dan Merkle, director of elections for ABC News, and a member of the consortium that runs the exit poll, confirmed the shift Wednesday. The aim, he said, “is to still deliver a quality product in the most important states,” in the face of mounting survey costs.

"Who is this guy?" tens of millions of American voters asked themselves last night. "This isn't the Mitt Romney the media's presented to me over the last six months?" Free of the corrupt media's corrupt filter; free of the spin, the lying fact-checkers, the gotchas, and the desperate effort to cover up any and all bad news that might hurt Obama -- by every standard, every measure, every opinion and every opinion poll, what we witnessed last night at the first presidential debate of 2012 was a commanding, dominating blow-out performance by Governor Mitt Romney.

BRUSSELS - President Barack Obama's lacklustre performance in the first U.S. election debate provoked uneasiness in European capitals on Thursday, where hopes are mostly, if unofficially, pinned on his securing a second term.(snip)Political commentators in France and Germany registered surprise at Obama's underwhelming performance, saying the election could be much tighter as a result. "Obama showed a lack of desire to be president, which could put him on shaky ground as a presidential candidate," said liberal German news magazine Der Spiegel. "It's now clear that to get back into the White House the U.S. president needs running shoes, not flip-flops."

The presidential debates that started Wednesday extend to Oct. 22. But who wins or scores in the debates will have no influence on tens of thousands of Americans who will have already cast their votes for president and are not permitted to change their minds. In 2008, 31% of voters cast their ballots prior to Election Day, and the count was more than half in some battleground states. The percentage is expected to top 40% this year since early voting is now allowed in 32 states and began in Iowa on Sept. 27.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Doug Sterner drives from his cluttered apartment here to the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., carrying a portable photocopier and a belief in American heroes. Inside the Navy archives, he flips through thousands of typed index cards detailing bravery in battle. Sterner pulls out a card and starts reading. He's mesmerized by this story: Charles Valentine August, a Navy pilot who shot down two enemy planes in World War II, was later shot down himself and captured in North Africa. After escaping, August returned to combat and was shot down again and taken prisoner by

A specialized robotic transporter will carry the space shuttle most of the way between Los Angeles International Airport and its permanent home at the California Science Center in Exposition Park next week during a two-day, 12-mile trek through city streets. But because the transporter is not on the Caltrans list of vehicles approved for towing over bridges, Toyota stepped in, volunteering a Tundra truck to tow Endeavour across the 405 Freeway on West Manchester Boulevard, said William Harris, senior vice president of development and marketing

As we explained late last night pundits wasted little time scoring Wednesday's debate a clear cut win for Mitt Romney. But a quick scan of the morning's front pages shows that—fortunately for President Obama—the nation's headline writers and art team largely avoided specifics in the hours between when the debate ended and when Thursday's editions went to press. As you'll see there was the occasional talk of a "Romney doing well; Obama didn't err," but that type of punditry was largely relegated to subheads. A typical bold-faced headline, meanwhile, involved the two men "sparring," "clashing" or "debating."

Reeling from a debate performance where President Obama often seemed listless and subdued relative to his Republican opponent, the Obama campaign's top strategist said Thursday they would more aggressively challenge Mitt Romney on alleged inconsistencies in his policies. "You know, you can't tell the American people up is down and down is up and ignore your history and ignore your statements," Obama senior adviser David Axelrod said Thursday on MSNBC. "You can't square the circle, and Gov. Romney is going to be held accountable for that." Axelrod went on to accuse Romney of playing "a shell game"

The immediate reaction to Wednesday night’s presidential debate was a torrent of criticism directed at President Obama, with Republicans, and as well as many Democrats, accusing Mr. Obama of delivering a flat, uninspired and defensive performance. Republicans seemed genuinely surprised that his opponent, Mitt Romney, was energetic, aggressive and presidential during his first-ever general election debate. “In a thoroughly dominating performance, Romney bested Barack Obama in both tone and substance,” Stephen F. Hayes of the conservative Weekly Standard magazine wrote after the debate. “Obama often found himself at the end of a verbal cul-de-sac

The final case to stem from the corruption investigation into imprisoned former Illinois Gov. Here was the blast that went out to reporters (via the Washington Examiner): "Good morning, we're out with a new video 'Smirk' highlighting the president's debate performance where he was visibly uncomfortable as he struggled to give Americans answers on how he'll turn our country around with another four years. As Morning Joe said this morning—it appeared as if Obama thought debating was beneath him."

BENGHAZI, Libya — A team of US investigators visited Libya's second city Benghazi on Thursday to examine the site where Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed in an attack last month. "An American investigative committee visited the site where the US ambassador was killed," a defense ministry official in Benghazi told AFP, confirming that the team included FBI agents. The dirt road which leads to the front gate of the US mission in Benghazi was sealed off in the morning by defence ministry vehicles mounted with weapons, an AFP correspondent reported.

A U.S. probe of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi, Libya, that killed the American ambassador and three colleagues faces hurdles including a contaminated crime scene and incomplete intelligence on the assault. The investigation so far has provided U.S. officials with a better understanding of the incident, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said yesterday, vowing that the U.S. would find those responsible for the attack. “There are continuing questions about what exactly happened in Benghazi on that night three weeks ago,” Clinton said.

There should be little surprise at the results of 2012's first presidential debate. What the heck else was Obama going to do or say?! This is what happens when you have to run on your sorry record. This is what happens when there is no teleprompter. This is what happens when you don't have the mainstream media to run cover for you. Chris Matthews essentially said as much, when, in his post-debate tantrum he asked, "Tonight wasn't an MSNBC debate tonight, was it?"

'She died 3 days b4 he became president',” the Tweet read, a response to a reference President Barack Obama made about his grandmother’s passing.

In the six months leading up to the assault on the United States consulate in Benghazi, the State Department reduced the number of trained Americans guarding U.S. facilities in Libya, according to a leading House Republican investigating the Sept. 11 anniversary attacks. The reduction in U.S. security personnel increased America’s reliance on local Libyan guards for the protection of its diplomats. This is the latest charge from Rep. Jason Chaffetz, the Utah Republican leading a House investigation on the Benghazi attacks, regarding alleged security defects in Benghazi.

Over the past month I worried that Mitt Romney was another GOP loser of a presidential candidate in the line of Bob Dole and John McCain. Dole and McCain are great Americans who have made profound personal sacrifices for our freedom, but as presidential candidates they were palookas. I wondered whether Romney was this year’s Republican bum of the month served up to lose honorably to the Democrats’ heavyweight champion. The answer Romney provided last night in the debate with President Obama (transcript here) was something like the great negation of Nathaniel Hawthorne saluted by Herman Melville

Even before the vote, Turkey launched artillery attacks against Syria Wednesday night

In a chat with Neil Cavuto of Fox Business Network, Sarah Palin issues a prediction right after last night’s debate. “Ninety percent of the liberal media — the lamestream media — they’re going to say, of course, that Barack Obama won the debate.” Though Palin is generally crafty enough to make highly squishy statements about stuff, this one is slightly fact-checkable. Running down just a few of the institutions commonly associated with media mainstreamness, we discover that perhaps Palin needs to recalibrate just a touch:
