Vice President Biden said Tuesday that the middle class has been “buried” for the last four years. Biden made the remark at a campaign rally while arguing that Republicans would raise taxes on the middle class. He said the tax hike would be especially bad given what the middle class has been through over the last four years. “This is deadly earnest, man. This is deadly earnest,” the vice president said. “How they can justify, how they can justify raising taxes on the middle class that has been buried the last four years? How in lord's name can they justify

The Florida Supreme Court will hear oral arguments Tuesday on whether an illegal immigrant can be granted a law license. The case is being brought before the court by the state’s Board of Bar Examiners, which has asked the court for an opinion on whether to grant a license to Jose Godinez-Samperio. Godinez-Samperio came from Mexico to the United States as a child with his parents, who had a tourist visa that has long since expired. He argues that he should be granted a law license under President Obama’s directive this summer that suspends deportation for

A top Egyptian politician has sparked outrage by asking a journalist live on air if her questions would be “hot” like her. Minister of Information Salah Abdel Maksud was caught on camera asking Dubai TV news show host Zeina Yazjy the “inappropriate inquiry” during an interview last week. “I hope your questions won’t be as hot as you,” he said during the audacious exchange. Without missing a beat she replied with a smirk: “My questions may be hot, but I am the opposite, I'm very cold.”

Poll: Plurality say polls

A plurality of Americans and more than seven in 10 Republicans say pollsters are intentionally skewing results to benefit President Obama, according to a new poll released Tuesday. Some 42 percent of voters surveyed by Daily Kos and SEIU believe pollsters are manipulating their sample sizes to benefit the incumbent president, while 40 percent do not. (Snip) Some Republicans — most prominently among them strategist Dick Morris — began questioning the sampling of some polls last week when surveys showed President Obama opening up a sizable lead in swing states, including Ohio and Florida. Republicans have charged that the polls

A late-blooming Arab

The Arab Spring blossomed – and sometimes wilted – in nearly every country in the region aside from Jordan. Now, with large demonstrations planned for Friday in Amman - which organizers say will be the biggest the Hashemite Kingdom has seen in years - some question how long Jordan can remain immune from the demands for change that have swept through the region, sparking uprisings and unseating dictatorships. Jordan is a famously unique case: it’s a relatively small, stable country with a measure of freedom and a popular monarchy. (Snip) “I don’t think Jordan is on the same Arab Spring

Washington - The American military’s top-secret Joint Special Operations Command is preparing detailed information that could be used to kill or capture some of the militants suspected in the attack last month in Libya that killed Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, senior military and counterterrorism officials said on Tuesday. Preparing the “target packages” is the first step in a process that the Pentagon and Central Intelligence Agency are taking in preparation for, and in advance of, any orders from President Obama and his top civilian and military advisers to carry out action against those determined complicit in

Seven months after calling themselves the “anti-Solyndra,” the Colorado-based solar panel manufacturer Abound Solar announced it was filing for chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation, arguing that cheap Chinese solar panels flooding the market caused their demise. (Snip) Internal documentation and testimony from sources within Abound show that the company was selling a faulty, underperforming product, and may have mislead lenders at one point in order to keep itself afloat. “Our solar modules worked as long as you didn’t put them in the sun,” an internal source told The Daily Caller News Foundation. The company knew its panels were faulty prior to

SPRINGFIELD — The Obama administration and Gov. Pat Quinn have mapped out an end-run around the GOP that will enable the state to unload the long-mothballed Thomson Correctional Center for $165 million, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin’s office confirmed Tuesday. The federal government will pay that amount to convert the facility, built in the 1990s but never opened because the state couldn’t afford to staff it, into a maximum-security prison. That conversion will give the state’s battered treasury an unexpected windfall and pump 1,000 prison jobs and several hundred construction

Get ready to hold onto your wallets. If an international “green” plan goes forward, another US industry will lose out to international competition and the price that American consumers pay for items like paper, pencils and building materials could start rising. At issue: Whether the US Green Building Council will adopt a single standard for all forestry lands that is being pushed from overseas. With North America accounting for 40 percent of the world’s certified lands, the US is a leader in forest certification — but there

In the desperate battle to shape public expectations over Wednesday’s presidential debate in Denver, Gov. Mitt Romney appears to be winning-by-losing. Most prospective voters expect him to lose the face-to-face debate, so he has a greater opportunity to surprise and reassure voters who might switch support from President Barack Obama to the GOP candidate.

Dr. Thomas Sowell's "'Trickle Down Theory' and 'Tax Cuts for the Rich'" has just been published by the Hoover Institution. Having read this short paper, the conclusion you must reach is that the term "trickle down theory" is simply a tool of charlatans and political hustlers. Sowell states that "no such theory has been found in even the most voluminous and learned histories of economic theories." That's from a scholar who has published extensively in the history of economic thought.

President Obama played some hookey from his intense debate preparation early this week in Las Vegas, visiting a campaign field office in nearby Henderson and chatting with volunteers for his re-election effort. "It's very nice. Although basically they're keeping me indoors all the time. It's a drag. They're making me do my homework," Obama joked with volunteer Andrea Stinger. Campaign traveling press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters later that the president viewed visiting with voters and volunteers as important during his time in Nevada, a crucial swing state in Novemeber.

American farmers using hazardous pesticides to fight weeds and insects are sparking a rise of 'superweeds' and hard-to-kill bugs, according to a newly released study. The rise in the weeds and pests are believed to be caused by the heavy adoption of genetically modified crop technologies. The reported vicious circle shows that the more pesticides that are used, the more resilient the crop pests get. Genetically engineered crops have led to an increase in overall pesticide use, by £404,000,000 from the time they were introduced in 1996 through to 2011, according to the report by Charles Benbrook

The number of low-income children who receive breakfast in New Jersey schools each day has dramatically increased, according to a new report released today, but the state still lags far behind nationally. There was a 21 percent increase in the number of low-income students eating breakfast at school from October 2010 to March 2012, according to Advocates for Children of New Jersey, which released the report. The group compiled its findings from state data. Schools are increasingly serving students breakfast after the school day starts, allowing more children to access a healthy breakfast and attributing to the jump,

The U.S. consulate in Libya was attacked twice in the months leading up to the deadly attack that claimed the lives of four Americans, it was revealed today. The militants responsible for the bombings were also active on social networks, and used Facebook to issue additional threats - including some against Chris Stevens, the U.S. ambassador who was killed in the strike. The information is likely to increase pressure on the Obama administration as it suggests little was done to secure the facility despite the fact that it was a prime terror target.

The apparent admission of a top lawyer for the Obama campaign during a recent conference call that the campaign has “work[ed] with some” nonprofit organizations raises questions about the campaign’s coordination with liberal nonprofit groups and could put the nonprofit status of those groups at risk. Courtney Wheeler, the Obama campaign’s national voter protection coordinator, fielded a question from an attorney on the Sept. 18 call about certain tax-exempt organizations—groups organized under section 501(c)(3) of the tax code—that may be violating the law by engaging in overtly political activity. “Is there any attention paid to those organizations

Political attack ads mostly follow the same formula: A foreboding voice, a series of damning facts and figures, and a call for action. So what makes an ad stand out? Nancy Pelosi’s challenger John Dennis uses a different tact – zombies. There’s also a sacrificial lamb and an over-the-top impersonation of Pelosi. The creation of Chris Burgard, who also cut ads for Herman Cain during his failed bid for the Republican presidential nomination, the new ad casts the California congressswoman as a cult leader of the living-dead as they prepare to sacrifice a lamb.
