Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) is calling for immediate hearings regarding a lawsuit alleging the EPW is conducting illegal human experiments by exposing people to concentrated high levels of substances the EPA has deemed carcinogenic. (snip) If true, “the EPA may be criminally liable for its conduct,” Sen. Inhofe says. Citing a June 2005 report, ‘Human Pesticide Experiments,’ Inhofe says “[T]he EPA’s conduct may violate laws, regulations and ethical standards set for the protection of human subjects.” In a separate statement announcing the letter, Sen. Inhofe says he "finds it extremely disturbing the EPA may have conducted illegal human experiments."

Dr. Thomas Sowell's "'Trickle Down Theory' and 'Tax Cuts for the Rich'" has just been published by the Hoover Institution. Having read this short paper, the conclusion you must reach is that the term "trickle down theory" is simply a tool of charlatans and political hustlers. Sowell states that "no such theory has been found in even the most voluminous and learned histories of economic theories." That's from a scholar who has published extensively in the history of economic thought.

In yet another case examining the correct application of the First Amendment, ads by conservative blogger Pam Gellar are going up on subways in New York City. The Metropolitan Transit Authority was ordered by a Manhattan Federal Court to place "Anti-Jihad Savage" ads, starting early this week. The MTA had originally refused to accept the ads under their "No Demeaning Ad Standard" policy. After the ruling the MTA Spokesman said: "Our hands are tied."

President Obama played some hookey from his intense debate preparation early this week in Las Vegas, visiting a campaign field office in nearby Henderson and chatting with volunteers for his re-election effort. "It's very nice. Although basically they're keeping me indoors all the time. It's a drag. They're making me do my homework," Obama joked with volunteer Andrea Stinger. Campaign traveling press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters later that the president viewed visiting with voters and volunteers as important during his time in Nevada, a crucial swing state in Novemeber.

American farmers using hazardous pesticides to fight weeds and insects are sparking a rise of 'superweeds' and hard-to-kill bugs, according to a newly released study. The rise in the weeds and pests are believed to be caused by the heavy adoption of genetically modified crop technologies. The reported vicious circle shows that the more pesticides that are used, the more resilient the crop pests get. Genetically engineered crops have led to an increase in overall pesticide use, by £404,000,000 from the time they were introduced in 1996 through to 2011, according to the report by Charles Benbrook

The number of low-income children who receive breakfast in New Jersey schools each day has dramatically increased, according to a new report released today, but the state still lags far behind nationally. There was a 21 percent increase in the number of low-income students eating breakfast at school from October 2010 to March 2012, according to Advocates for Children of New Jersey, which released the report. The group compiled its findings from state data. Schools are increasingly serving students breakfast after the school day starts, allowing more children to access a healthy breakfast and attributing to the jump,

The U.S. consulate in Libya was attacked twice in the months leading up to the deadly attack that claimed the lives of four Americans, it was revealed today. The militants responsible for the bombings were also active on social networks, and used Facebook to issue additional threats - including some against Chris Stevens, the U.S. ambassador who was killed in the strike. The information is likely to increase pressure on the Obama administration as it suggests little was done to secure the facility despite the fact that it was a prime terror target.

The apparent admission of a top lawyer for the Obama campaign during a recent conference call that the campaign has “work[ed] with some” nonprofit organizations raises questions about the campaign’s coordination with liberal nonprofit groups and could put the nonprofit status of those groups at risk. Courtney Wheeler, the Obama campaign’s national voter protection coordinator, fielded a question from an attorney on the Sept. 18 call about certain tax-exempt organizations—groups organized under section 501(c)(3) of the tax code—that may be violating the law by engaging in overtly political activity. “Is there any attention paid to those organizations

Political attack ads mostly follow the same formula: A foreboding voice, a series of damning facts and figures, and a call for action. So what makes an ad stand out? Nancy Pelosi’s challenger John Dennis uses a different tact – zombies. There’s also a sacrificial lamb and an over-the-top impersonation of Pelosi. The creation of Chris Burgard, who also cut ads for Herman Cain during his failed bid for the Republican presidential nomination, the new ad casts the California congressswoman as a cult leader of the living-dead as they prepare to sacrifice a lamb.

As Mitt Romney campaigns on the promise to repeal Obamacare, some Republicans on Capitol Hill are trying to learn more about what the national health care law will actually do when it is fully implemented in 2014. Romney would do well to take a look at what they've discovered. Specifically, Romney might want to focus on the new and expanded role that the Internal Revenue Service will play in Americans' lives as a result of the Affordable Care Act. The nation's widely reviled tax collector will also become its health care enforcer. Once the law goes

A Republican member of Congress has described President Barack Obama's handling of the violence in Libya as 'probably more serious than Watergate' and called for an independent counsel to investigate. Representative Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee said that the Obama administration's initial refusal to characterise the murder of U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans in Benghazi on September 11 as a terrorist act smacked of a cover-up. 'This is why we need an independent counsel and we need the investigations top begin immediately,' she told Fox News. 'I think this is

The website promoting First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” initiative to combat childhood obesity advises parents to limit “opportunities for children to purchase competitive foods.” The website warns parents about “competitive food” – food available to children on campus that falls outside of the federally regulated cafeteria food. “Foods and beverages provided through school breakfast, lunch and afterschool snack programs must meet certain nutritional rules to receive federal money,” the website states. “However, kids can purchase non-nutritious foods in place of these meals. The Michigan city has lost 60 per cent of its population since the 1950s - around one million residents - when the city was America's fourth largest and the thriving hub of car industry and Motown music. The striking images which document the changes in Detroit were taken by photographer Camilo José Vergara over a period of 25 years. Scroll down for video

In baseball, a game without a clock, each player on a team that is behind by a bunch of runs is advised to “stay within yourself.” That baseball lingo means: Do not try to do too much. Instead, get ’em on, get ’em over, get ’em in. There are no five-run home runs. Small, incremental gains matter because the game goes on until someone makes the 27th out. Until then, there is hope. Unfortunately for Mitt Romney, presidential politics is, like football, a game with a clock, one with just five weeks of ticks remaining.
