An oil company founded by a former Obama administration trade adviser has been ordered by a Texas jury to pay $32.4 million in damages resulting from a botched plot to buy millions in illegal gold from a corrupt Congolese warlord. A civil jury in Dallas determined last week that CAMAC International, an oil and gas conglomerate founded by maxed-out Obama donor Kase Lawal, violated the terms of its agreement with the owner of a jet allegedly used during the gold transaction. Lawal, who was selected by President Barack Obama to serve as a member of the White House’s Advisory

Romney should expose IRS

As Mitt Romney campaigns on the promise to repeal Obamacare, some Republicans on Capitol Hill are trying to learn more about what the national health care law will actually do when it is fully implemented in 2014. Romney would do well to take a look at what they've discovered. Specifically, Romney might want to focus on the new and expanded role that the Internal Revenue Service will play in Americans' lives as a result of the Affordable Care Act. The nation's widely reviled tax collector will also become its health care enforcer. Once the law goes

A Chinese-owned company sued President Barack Obama for barring its Oregon wind-farm project as a national security risk, claiming the order violates its constitutional rights. (snip)The challenge to Obama comes amid campaign charges by Republican challenger Mitt Romney that Obama has been too soft on China. Obama’s order blocking Ralls from acquiring the wind- farm assets was the first time in 22 years a president has blocked a transaction on national security grounds.

Vice President Joe Biden had something of a bumpy landing Tuesday in Charlotte, N.C. Via the pool report: Just after 11 am, AF2 appeared to be on its way into Charlotte, having descended just below the clouds. Then the 757 abruptly pulled up and circled for about 35 minutes because of thunderstorms in the area. After a second, less-eventful approach we were on the ground in Charlotte Douglas Intl Airport at 11:40 am. The vice president, who was scheduled to attend campaign rallies in Charlotte and Asheville, emerged unscathed

House investigators warned Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to expect a hearing into their finding that that American staff at the U.S. Embassy in Libya had their request for additional security denied by Washington officials. “Based on information provided to the Committee by individuals with direct knowledge of events in Libya, the attack that claimed the ambassador’s life was the latest in a long line of attacks on Western diplomats and officials in Libya in the months leading up to September 11, 2012,” House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., and subcommittee chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah,

When a pollster or strategist for a struggling political campaign presents what seems like a sugar-coated view of his candidate's chances, do you ever think: I wish I could give that adviser some truth serum, or maybe put him under oath? Well, truth serum may be pushing it, but the put-him-under-oath part has actually happened.(snip) Under oath, Hickman admitted that in the final weeks of Edwards's 2008 bid, Hickman cherry-picked public polls to make the candidate seem viable,

A Republican member of Congress has described President Barack Obama's handling of the violence in Libya as 'probably more serious than Watergate' and called for an independent counsel to investigate. Representative Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee said that the Obama administration's initial refusal to characterise the murder of U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans in Benghazi on September 11 as a terrorist act smacked of a cover-up. 'This is why we need an independent counsel and we need the investigations top begin immediately,' she told Fox News. 'I think this is

The website promoting First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” initiative to combat childhood obesity advises parents to limit “opportunities for children to purchase competitive foods.” The website warns parents about “competitive food” – food available to children on campus that falls outside of the federally regulated cafeteria food. “Foods and beverages provided through school breakfast, lunch and afterschool snack programs must meet certain nutritional rules to receive federal money,” the website states. “However, kids can purchase non-nutritious foods in place of these meals. When it comes to embattled cities, Detroit has suffered more than most - with a dramatically declining population, crumbling industries and homes and buildings abandoned. The Michigan city has lost 60 per cent of its population since the 1950s - around one million residents - when the city was America's fourth largest and the thriving hub of car industry and Motown music. The striking images which document the changes in Detroit were taken by photographer Camilo José Vergara over a period of 25 years. Scroll down for video

HENDERSON, N.V. – President Barack Obama took a break from debate preparations that he complained are “a drag” to visit one of his Nevada campaign offices, where he brought workers half a dozen pizzas and made a few phone calls to supporters. Mr. Obama has been holed up in a luxury resort outside of Las Vegas with more than a dozen aides since Sunday night, practicing for his first debate with Republican Mitt Romney Wednesday. Apparently he’s not so thrilled about it. “We had a great prep, and it was a lot of fun,”

The Obama Paradox No state has suffered the last four years as much as has California — given that its progressive governor and legislative majorities serve as force multipliers for the Obama national agenda. We live in a 2X Obama state. And it is desirous for twelve or sixteen, not just four, more years in Washington.(Snip) Bleak? But such stats do not necessarily translate into the bad life for those Californians who vote — a least in comparison, I suppose, to Minnesota’s winters, Mississippi’s rate of welfare payouts, Baltimore’s streets, or Mexico’s police. In baseball, a game without a clock, each player on a team that is behind by a bunch of runs is advised to “stay within yourself.” That baseball lingo means: Do not try to do too much. Instead, get ’em on, get ’em over, get ’em in. There are no five-run home runs. Small, incremental gains matter because the game goes on until someone makes the 27th out. Until then, there is hope. Unfortunately for Mitt Romney, presidential politics is, like football, a game with a clock, one with just five weeks of ticks remaining.

DENVER –Mitt Romney told supporters Monday night that Barack Obama is out of excuses, and on Nov. 6, voters will put him out of office. The Republican presidential nominee arrived in Denver two days before his first debate with Mr. Obama, and he took the opportunity to test some of his arguments here, laying out his critique of the president’s policies. Mr. Romney told the crowd at the rally — estimated by his campaign at about 5,500 — that he is ready to face Mr. Obama.

The rigors of teaching apparently got to Michigan State University professor John McCarthy Monday. According to multiple sources, the math teacher stripped naked in the middle of his Calculus 1 class and started shouting obscenities. Freshman Kyle Hillman told MLive.com that while walking the class through a routine derivative equation, McCarthy said, "Math is all about questions and answers. And Steve Jobs invented the computer, but what do computers do? They ask questions and we answer them." "He started talking about his colleagues and how they're all actors," Hillman told MLive.com.

Leading into tomorrow’s presidential debate, journalists are busy setting expectations for the candidates. On Sunday’s Good Morning America, ABC’s George Stephanopoulos argued that Mitt Romney is under “huge, huge” pressure: “He is behind right now. He is behind nationally, he’s behind in all of the battleground states. This is the last big audience that Mitt Romney is going to have with about four and a half weeks left to go.” But more undecided voters will be swayed by the media’s post-debate spin about who won and who lost than by any pre-debate expectations. For two weeks, I’ve been listening to people and reading about the term “illegal immigrant.” I have gathered information from readers, advocates, reporters and editors. I even had a face-to-face meeting with the most visible proponent of a change to “undocumented,” Jose Antonio Vargas, who I found to be intelligent, passionate and charming. And I’ve thought a great deal about this volatile topic. As public editor, I don’t make rulings on style for The Times. All I can do is weigh in, express an opinion. After all the buildup, my weighing in may seem anticlimactic, because I

My colleague, John Nolte, has already covered how absurd the Washington Post poll of voters in "swing states" was. For the last few months, I have become convinced that the media is actively trying to use their polls to impact the Presidential election. Not the pollsters per se, but the media sponsors who pay their tab. They are active participants in the campaign. The Washington Post confirmed that my suspicions were correct. They are totally an in-kind contributor to the Obama campaign. Yesterday's Washington Post poll showed the race essentially tied,

It would be an election night to remember for Republicans and conservatives if the Romney/Ryan presidential ticket wins in a landslide, but nothing short of shock and awe for Democrats and their liberal media allies based on the latest polls. Quick to sweep the historic Republican election landslide in 2010 and Scott Walker's big victory in Wisconsin's recall election under the rug, Democrats and the liberal media have been treating Obama's dismal record on the economy and foreign policy the same way they treated those elections - like they never happened.

For Obama and the left, the law is merely a suggestion for what they can do. Can't get something through Congress? Simply issue an executive order. Can't get an appointment through the Senate? Simply "declare" the Senate in recess and appoint away. Act now and let the judges sort it out later. For the past several weeks, several defense contractors made it clear they would have to send out layoff notices to thousands of workers due to automatic budget cuts set to take affect in January. The cuts are triggered by the debt ceiling "deal" hatched last year.

In a statement unsurprisingly littered with football metaphors, legendary quarterback John Elway announced Monday that he is endorsing the Republican presidential ticket. “I am endorsing Governor Romney and Congressman Ryan for President and Vice President because I know having the courage to make decisions and tackle challenges is what leads to results and real change. America needs a comeback team – Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are that team,” Elway said. Elway, who was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2004 took the Denver Broncos to the Super Bowl five times in his 15 year career
