Al Gore denied
firestorm footage

A WEATHER expert has backed the stance of an Alice Springs filmmaker who refused to sell footage of a firestorm to former US vice-president Al Gore -- to use in Mr Gore's climate presentations -- because the event was unrelated to climate change. Chris Tangey from Alice Springs Film and Television recorded the phenomenon on Curtin Springs Station, 360km southwest of Alice Springs, while scouting locations for a film. The footage has been an international sensation, reported widely in global media. In an email exchange with Mr Gore's office, Tangey said using the footage in a climate-change framework would be "deliberately deceptive".

When Mexican authorities took Juarez drug cartel carnage king Jose Antonio Acosta Hernandez — better known as “El Diego” — into custody, he had weapons from Operation Fast and Furious on his person, the English-language transcript of the Spanish-language television network Univision’s special investigation into the scandal shows. “According to investigations, ‘El Diego’ forms the link between this massacre and Fast and Furious,” an anchor read on air in Spanish Sunday evening, referring to two different mass killings drug cartel operatives used Fast and Furious weapons to conduct as Univision reported.

HARRISBURG - A Commonwealth Court judge ruled today that Pennsylvania's controversial new voter ID law can remain mostly intact for the November election, but will impose a very narrow injunction that will allow even those without identification to vote. In his ruling, which is widely expected to be appealed to the Supreme Court, Simpson ordered an injunction that would target the portion of the law that deals with provisional ballots. As written, the law said voters who do not bring proper photo ID on Election Day can cast a provisional ballot.

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) predicted Monday that the fiscal cliff will be dealt with in the “lame duck session.” Appearing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Schumer said, “I am an optimist. I think we’re going to solve this problem in the lame duck, and here’s why: It’s sort of— People who have stood in the way – obviously this is my judgment – more than anybody else are the hard right Republicans. “But there are two groups in the Senate and House of Republicans. Former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu, a co-chairman of Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, on Tuesday dismissed a new poll showing President Obama up by 15 points in the Granite State as "a piece of garbage" and predicted Mr. Romney ultimately would win the state by 2 to 3 points. "Let me just test your political wisdom," Mr. Sununu said to host Chuck Todd on MSNBC's "The Daily Rundown." "Do you think it's possible for that to be right? No, you know it's a piece of garbage."

Government-approved school meals as a model for the family dinner table? Responding to concerns that students are throwing away the healthy food on their cafeteria trays, the U.S. Department of Agriculture acknowledged that adapting to the changes "may be challenging at first, as students are introduced to new flavors and foods in the cafeteria." But the government also says parents can help school make the taste-transition easier: "We know that many parents are already making changes at home to help the whole family eat healthier," the USDA blogged on Monday.

The latest polls invariably show that approximately 75% of them would vote for Barack Hussein Obama on November 6. Translated into plain English, that means that 2 million 250 thousand American Jews are absolutely and incorrigibly delusional!

Barack Obama has 196 'safe' EC votes, and Mitt Romney has 156.”

A month to go before President Barack Obama faces re-election finds the president dealing with five major scandals. Any one of these scandals would sink a mere mortal, but Barack Obama as we all know is no mere mortal. He is a lightworker, author of hope and change, the man whose election should have been the moment that our ailing planet itself was healed. So none of these scandals are much of a threat to him. In political terms Barack Obama is a god, immortal and untouchable. Barack Obama is politically immortal because our

Mitt Romney and President Obama will attempt their most statesmanlike poses for Wednesday night’s debate in Denver, but there is one dichotomy that could break the congenial facade: Obama likes to interrupt. Romney doesn’t like to be interrupted. When he took on John McCain in the 2008 debates, then-Sen. Barack Obama showed no hesitation at jumping in when he thought his opponent had misrepresented his positions. He didn’t wait for moderator Jim Lehrer to call on him or until the end of McCain’s remarks. “That’s not the case,” and “That’s not true,” Obama interjected when McCain suggested that

As Muslim crowds dissipate and American diplomatic missions return to normal activities, here are three final thoughts on the riots that began this September 11 and killed about 30: The movie really did matter: The Obama administration dishonestly skirted responsibility for the murder of four Americans in Libya by claiming that the attack was a protest that got unpredictably out of hand against the Innocence of Muslims video. In response, leading analysts have concluded that the video hardly mattered anywhere. Barry Rubin scorns the video as a “phony excuse for the demonstration” in Egypt. Too many members of the oracular elite don’t seem to get the connection between policy and intelligence. Or, if they do get it, they deny it, which also happens a fair amount of the time. The connection is simple enough: intelligence goes to the policy makers, and if they make it clear that they don’t want to see or hear about intel that suggests or proves something or other, the intel guys will make sure that the flow of such material shrivels up and dies. Why? Because they work in a closed market in which their

surprising number of Americans are supportive of controversial Bush-era tactics used to undermine terrorism, and are even open to more extreme measures like using nuclear weapons. That's what professor Amy Zegart discovered when she asked the research firm YouGov to poll 1,000 people in August. Zegart recently joined Stanford University's Hoover Institution after leaving UCLA’s School of Public Affairs, where she specialized in national security and intelligence. The poll results showed that an increasing number of Americans supported torturing prisoners, up 14 points to 41 percent since 2007. Today the Romney campaign is trumpeting the latest CNN/ORC poll which shows President Obama with a three-point lead over Mitt Romney among likely voters, 50%-47%. The Romney campaign likes this result, apparently, because it represents a significant improvement over the last CNN/ORC poll, which came out three weeks ago. In that survey, CNN/ORC found a six-point Obama lead. I wrote about the earlier poll here, pointing out that it obviously over-sampled Democrats. A reader calculated that, given other data in the survey, the six-point difference was consistent with a breakdown of D-38%, R-26% and I-36%.

The reason why no one knew him was simple enough. Obama discouraged the media from looking. The major media obliged, and their conservative counterparts in New York and Washington, fearing ridicule

Demonstrators have been filling the streets of southern Europe’s capitals in numbers too large for politicians to safely ignore, protesting the latest economic austerity measures. Hundreds of thousands have turned out in Lisbon, Madrid and Athens, and more such protests are likely in coming days. The public’s patience is running out on austerity policies demanded by the German government and European Union leaders, which have conspicuously failed in their stated goal of reducing debt burdens and paving the way for economic revival.
