Progressive Media Run with Two
Fake Anti-Romney Stories
Breitbart's Big Journalism, by John Sexton    Original Article
Posted By: Photoonist- 9/28/2012 2:31:58 PM     Post Reply
Twice this week, progressive media outlets have embarrassed themselves by jumping on stories that looked like promising anti-Republican material only to discover hours later they'd been fooled. In one case, the mistake was a piece of satire, the other a joke mistaken for a serious comment. Tuesday morning Politico's Roger Simon posted an article which was clearly not meant to be taken seriously. The thrust of the piece was that Paul Ryan had become unhinged and was "marching around his campaign bus, saying things like, 'If Stench calls, take a message' and 'Tell Stench I’m having finger sandwiches with Peggy

AUSTRALIA will push harder for a tough new international gun control regime if it wins a seat at the UN Security Council, in a move to crack down on civil unrest, gang violence and criminal activity. Foreign Minister Bob Carr told The Weekend Australian that under a draft treaty being pushed by Australia, all states would be held responsible for what happened to their weapons after they left their shores. The Arms Trade Treaty failed to win the necessary backing last month amid opposition from the US and Russia.

LOS ANGELES — The mystery surrounding the man behind the crudely produced anti-Islamic video that sparked violence in the Middle East deepened when he appeared in court and identified himself by yet another name. Arrested on Thursday in Los Angeles after authorities said he violated his probation from a 2010 check fraud conviction, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula told a judge his real name was Mark Basseley Youssef. He said he had been using that name since 2002, even though he went by Nakoula in his fraud case. Court documents filed in Orange County Superior Court show he was granted

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Thursday that she has ordered written guidance be issued that same-sex couples' relationships be considered "family relationships." The move is the most tangible proof yet that the Department is taking action urging field offices not to pursue deportation cases against a foreign same-sex partner of an American citizen who would be able to obtain a green card if in an opposite-sex relationship. The news came in a letter from Napolitano to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday, where she stated that "the phrase 'family relationships' includes long-term, same-sex partners"

On one side of the Los Angeles Sports Arena on Thursday morning, doctors treated patients for swollen feet, breathing problems and high blood pressure. On the other side, county health workers began enrolling them in a free coverage program in preparation for the federal healthcare overhaul. Many of the 4,800 people seeking care at the annual massive free clinic this weekend will become eligible for health insurance in 2014 when the national law takes effect. Organizers said raising awareness about the healthcare changes is crucial. "It's as important as the care being delivered this year,"

At the Media Research Center's 25th Anniversary Gala in Washington, D.C., on Thursday night, former CBS News anchor Katie Couric was voted "The Worst Reporter in the History of Man." Couric barely edged out fellow former CBS News anchor Dan Rather. A crowd of more than 1,000 people attending the gala chose Couric for the honor. The other nominees were Rather, Bryant Gumbel and Brian Williams. The crowd made its choice known through a voice vote--which required a second-round run-off between Couric and Rather. Couric won the distinction as part of the MRC's at annual "Dishonors Awards."

SACRAMENTO — Support for Gov. Jerry Brown's plan for billions of dollars in tax hikes on the November ballot is slipping amid public anxiety about how politicians spend money, but voters still favor the proposal, according to a new USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll. The findings suggest that voters are leery of sending more cash to Sacramento in the wake of a financial scandal at the parks department, spiraling costs for a multibillion-dollar high-speed rail project to connect Northern and Southern California and ill-timed legislative pay raises. Brown's measure would

On MSNBC's "The Ed Show" tonight, DNC chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) severely downplayed any expectations one might have of President Obama at his first debate with Mitt Romney. Wasserman Schultz called Romney an "experienced and skilled debater," that he has done severe debate prep and that the incumbent has lost to his challenger in the first debate in previous election cycles. "Let's not discount the fact that Mitt Romney is an experienced and skilled debater," Wasserman Schultz said to Ed while discussing the upcoming debate next week.

Iran's semi-official FARS news agency has been fooled by an Onion story that found rural white voters prefer Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to President Obama. The agency on Friday republished, without attribution, a bogus Gallup poll from the satirical U.S. newspaper showing Obama badly trailing Ahmadinejad among rural white voters. According to the story, “77 percent of rural Caucasian voters ... would much rather go to a baseball game or have a drink with Ahmadinejad than spend time with Obama.” The story says rural whites prefer the Iranian leader because he “takes national defense seriously,”

A week after NATO announced it was halting joint operations between Western and Afghan forces, the Pentagon said on Thursday the U.S. would resume small-unit patrols, The Wall Street Journal reports. The initial ban came after a sharp increase in insider attacks, where Afghan security forces turn their weapons on NATO troops tasked with training them. More than 50 NATO troops have been killed from such attacks this year. The risk became exponentially higher in the wake of Muslim protests stemming from an anti-Islamic film produced in the U.S. Patrols were reinstated after

Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (R) is supporting Rep. Allen West's (R-Fla.) It's just wrong," he says in a Thursday afternoon fundraising email to supporters of Democrat Patrick Murphy, who's running against West in the Palm Beach-based swing district. It remains unclear whether President Barack Obama's lies about attacks on U.S. embassies will cost him re-election. One thing is certain, however: whatever ambitions Secretary of State Hillary Clinton once held to run for president in 2016 have been damaged beyond repair. Obama was literally asleep when the proverbial "3 a.m. call" came, but Clinton--who bears responsibility for embassy security--was asleep on the job for weeks. Clinton's response--"How could this happen in a country we helped liberate, in a city we helped save from destruction?--bears the same naïveté for which she once mocked her Democratic rival in

With only 39 days before the election, the president and presidential hopeful alike have been trying to respectively prove and attack the famous Reagan question – are you better off than you were four years ago? President Barack Obama’s campaign, again, tried to gin up outrage over Romney’s private equity past. The left-wing Mother Jones magazine released a 1985 video of Mitt Romney discussing Bain’s capital’s investment strategy of planning to “invest in startup companies and ongoing companies,” “help them realize their potential value,” and then “harvest them at a significant profit” five to eight years later. The Obama campaign highlighted the video to mainstream media reporters and e-mailed them a statement from a worker at a company who lost his job when Bain merged his business with another. The nuclear sites are a symbol of pride for Iran, he said, adding that "we will defend our dignity with our lives and blood." The remarks come a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged the world to draw a clear "red line" to stop Iran's nuclear program.

Judges’ consideration of Shari‘a when deciding cases may be the most alarming avenue by which Islam influences Western legal systems, but it is not the only one. With increasing regularity, Islamic practices sway the administration of courtrooms, affecting when sessions are held, who must rise, and what attire is permissible. This trend should not be overlooked. Courts that yield to Islamic norms, even in mundane matters, encourage Islamists and cast doubt on the future of equal rights and responsibilities under the law. The distrust of the media becomes total. That’s hardly news to anyone, except to the clueless editors and publishers of the big newspapers and the big mules of the television networks, who see their audiences shrinking and wonder why. A new survey by Gallup asked Americans how much trust and confidence they have in the mass media — newspapers, television and radio — when it comes to reporting the news fully, accurately and fairly: a great deal, a fair amount, not very much, or none at all. The result shows that “trust” disappeared long ago. Trust becomes disgust.
