Gaza City, Gaza Strip - Hamas is launching a media boycott of Barcelona after reports the Spanish league leader gave a complimentary ticket for an upcoming match to an Israeli soldier formerly held captive by militants in the Gaza Strip. A Barcelona spokesman confirmed the team had given the ticket to Gilad Schalit, who was captured by Gaza militants in June 2006 and returned home last October under an Israel-Palestinian deal on prisoner exchange. Canada? Really? Yes, the country with residents who supposedly leave their doors unlocked, the country with a murder rate a third of that of the U.S., the country with no Pam Gellar, no Tea Party, and no 2nd Amendment, is the what the Iranian government would consider "dangerous" for its citizens. Diplomats from Canada—officially the "world's most recommended country to visit"—recently walked out of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's speech at the U.N. General Assembly. On top of that, they also kicked Iranian diplomats out of the country and closed up Iran's Embassy.

Athens - A general strike, mass protests, riots - the Greek prime minister is pressing on with his austerity program despite massive resistance at home. He still intends to save another 11.5 billion euros ($14.9 billion). The Greek police estimated the number of demonstrators in the Greek capital, Athens, to be around 50,000 while organizers spoke of hundreds of thousands. (Snip) MPJannis Michelogiannakis also poured oil on the fire. The young politician from Crete, who represents the Democratic Left party, praised his leader Fotis Kouvelis for opposing austerity, and warned of armed attacks should further measures be introduced.

New York - Prices for long-acting contraception will be halved for 27 million women in the developing world through a new partnership, former President Bill Clinton and other world leaders announced on Wednesday. The deal will help avoid almost 30 million unwanted pregnancies and save an estimated $250m in health costs, the partnership said. Far East: Wars have started over less weighty issues than the sovereignty of islands in the East China Sea called Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China. They are barely rocks above water, but they sit atop valuable resources and are rapidly becoming a flash point as a rising power confronts one whose sun has set. These islands have become involved in a three-way tug of war between China, Taiwan and Japan with each sending fishing boats, even armed vessels, to the area. Private boats from

The U.S. Army Soldier in this video believed his unit was trapped by enemy fire, so the only solution was to draw the fire away from them. The kicker is that he had to become the target. When buddies—brothers—fellow soldiers in your unit are in danger, no action is too much, nothing goes without consideration, and in a flash you move. The description of the video, allegedly from the soldier himself, says he "got hit four times" as he made his way down the mountain. WASHINGTON — The IRS needs to take a closer look at the federal government in its search for tax scofflaws. That's right — a Treasury Department watchdog office said Thursday that 70 federal agencies owed about $14 million in unpaid taxes at the end of last year. (Snip) Cracking down on delinquents is complicated by IRS policies that do not allow enforcement actions against federal agencies and restrictions against penalizing or imposing interest on agencies that are behind in making their payments. Another problem is that federal law generally allows agencies to pay their current-year taxes only with current-year funds

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a dramatic speech to the United Nations, employed a simple diagram to hammer home his plea to the international community to set a "clear red line" over Iran's nuclear program -- warning that a nuclear-armed Iran would be tantamount to a nuclear-armed Al Qaeda. Netanyahu's address before the U.N. General Assembly amounted to an appeal to the U.S. and other nations to join Israel in drawing a line that Iran cannot cross without risking a military response. Netanyahu argued that nothing less than the "security of the world" is at stake.

WASHINGTON -- With college enrollment growing, student debt has stretched to a record number of U.S. households -- nearly 1 in 5 -- with the biggest burdens falling on the young and poor. The analysis by the Pew Research Center found that 22.4 million households, or 19 percent, had college debt in 2010. That is double the share in 1989, and up from 15 percent in 2007, just prior to the recession -- representing the biggest three-year increase in student debt in more than two decades. The increase was driven by higher tuition costs

Washington - Demand for U.S. durable goods other than transportation equipment unexpectedly dropped in August for a third consecutive month, signaling that slowdowns in business investment and exports will restrain the economic expansion. Orders for goods meant to last at least three years, excluding volatile demand for airplanes and automobiles, fell 1.6 percent last month after decreasing 1.3 percent in July, the Commerce Department reported today in Washington. Total bookings plunged 13 percent, the most since January 2009, as demand for civilian aircraft plunged. President Obama is not running on his record. He’s running like he’s not been in the Oval Office for the last four years and barely had anything to do with the nearly $6 trillion in new debt he’s racked up (a lie even the Washington Post had to give 4 Pinocchios). Even his cheerleaders in the media spend little to no time defending or championing his time in office; all they do is attack Mitt Romney. Vaughn, N.M. - A drug-sniffing dog now is the only certified member of the police force in the small eastern New Mexico town of Vaughn. Police Chief Ernest “Chris” Armijo decided to step down Wednesday after news stories reported that he wasn’t allowed to carry a gun because of his criminal background. “He decided the attention was distracting,” said Dave Romero, an attorney for the town. State officials said Armijo couldn’t carry a gun since acknowledging that he owed tens of thousands of dollars in delinquent child support payments in Texas. Voter assistance programs for the military – specifically targeted for improvement with $75 million after low military turnout in 2008 – have been left to languish by the Obama administration and the result may be depressed military turnout. The situation is especially alarming for the Mitt Romney campaign, because polls have consistently shown that Romney’s support from military voters and their families exceeds that of Barack Obama’s support by double digits. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius apparently isn't taking a campaign trail time-out despite being cited for violating federal law with her politicking earlier this year. The secretary is set to speak at Obama campaign events this weekend in New Hampshire. But the campaign is trying to avoid the legal pitfalls that snagged Sebelius the last time around when she was accused of making political statements in her official capacity. An Obama campaign spokesman told FoxNews.com that in New Hampshire, "she is attending in her personal capacity."

A unit of U.S. Army Special Operations soldiers was recently deployed to Iraq and more U.S. soldiers may soon be on their way, according to a New York Times report on the impact the civil war in neighboring Syria is having on Iraq's "fragile society and fledgling democracy." Buried in the 15th paragraph of the report in Tuesday's Times was the news that "Iraq and the United States are negotiating an agreement that could result in the return of small units of American soldiers to Iraq on training missions" and that a unit of Army Special Operations soldiers has already

It turns out that there is no way to reliably compare current global temperatures to historical data using NASA's database. It is a scientific scandal. I wrote recently about NASA changing its entire temperature record database, just from July to September. That is, in 2012, NASA changed temperatures going back to 1880. And it did that without telling anyone or explaining it. The net effect was to make the 130-year warming trend steeper, by lowering older (pre-1963) temperatures and slightly raising recent ones. (Snip) It is what all claims of global warming are based on. And about one third of

The Ryder Cup started on an ominous note for one of the world's greatest golfers. During a practice round for the Ryder Cup, a Tiger Woods tee shot went wild and conked a fan on the head. The drive came on No. 18 at Medinah Country Club outside of Chicago. The spectator told Woods that it wasn't his fault but Woods drew a laugh by saying yes it was. Woods ended up signing a glove for the fan who had been knocked out cold and taken to first aid.

Because the media-narrative for the next 40 days must be, Obama can do nothing wrong and Romney can do nothing right -- the corrupt media will sure focus on the fact that today's jobless claims were lower than expected at 359,000 (which you can only celebrate on a curve). But there's potentially catastrophic news in the economy today with two leading indicators that point towards a coming recession. Our 2nd quarter GDP has just been revised downward from an already anemic 1.7% to a shockingly weak 1.3%. Moreover, orders for durable goods went -- as Hot Air's Ed Morrissey points

An estimated two hundred protesters demonstrated on Tuesday in front of the hotel where President Cristina Fernández is staying at in New York, holding similar signs to the ones seen at the September 13 pot-banging massive protest in Argentina’s main cities. The protesters assured that they were not there “for the dollars,” referring to the exchange rate controls (‘dollar clamp’) set by the government, but for the corruption, the re-re-election, inflation and the pensioners. The New York pot-banging protest in front of the hotel lasted two hours and had been summoned via social networks.

There is a lot we can learn from the past few weeks, but one thing is sure – no one does their job better than workers who have union training and a voice on the job. Villareal, who became one a major drug member of Beltran Leyva cartel, has told the Mexican authorities that Graumman aircrafts carrying as many as three tons of cocaine often departed from Maracaibo, west Venezuela, and landed in Toluca, north Mexico, DPA noted.
