Muslim-Americans in Michigan called for “deterrent legal measures” to fight Islamophobia in the wake of videos such as the movie trailer that contributed to protests in the Middle East. “There is a need for deterrent legal measures against those individuals or groups that want to damage relations between people, spread hate and incite violence,” Osama Siblani, Publisher of The Arab American News said in a statement. “It is a need that Americans should seriously consider.” President Obama briefly addressed this topic during his United Nations speech yesterday. “I know there are some

London - A British policeman put his colleagues on alert as he investigated a "suspicious bright light" - only to find it was the moon, an in-house magazine for the police reported on Wednesday. Police magazine reported that the hapless officer only realised his blunder after warning his fellow constables in Worcestershire, central England, that he might require back-up. The magazine's Dogberry column revealed: "While on night duty in Worcestershire by himself, a PC called up his sergeant to let him know that he was going up into the Clent Hills to investigate a 'suspicious bright light' that he could

London - More than 100 million people will die and global economic growth will be cut by 3.2 per cent of gross domestic product by 2030 if the world fails to tackle climate change, a report commissioned by 20 governments said on Wednesday. As global average temperatures rise due to greenhouse gas emissions, the effects on the planet, such as melting ice caps, extreme weather, drought and rising sea levels, will threaten populations and livelihoods, said the report conducted by humanitarian organization DARA. It calculated that five million deaths occur each year from air pollution, hunger and disease as a

If these reports are true, and I suspect we all know they are -- what we have here is nothing more than a scandalous White House cover up and Obama's Media Palace Guards so terrified of Obama losing, they refuse to give it the coverage it demands, the attention it deserves, or to make Obama pay a political price for his role and responsibility. According to Eli Lake of the Daily Beast, 24 four hours after the assassination of Libyan Ambassador Chris Stevens, and a four full days before Obama sent UN Ambassador Susan Rice out to all the Sunday

At a press conference on September 19, Salt Lake County (Utah) Mayor Peter Corroon announced that for the November election his county will print ballots in Spanish. Salt Lake County Clerk Sherrie Swensen stood next to Corroon at the event and explained that voters in Utah’s most populous county will be able to choose English or Spanish from the menu on the screens of the electronic voting machines. (Snip) Before the printing of bilingual ballots the county provided Spanish-speaking poll workers to help voters struggling with English. London - A British court issued an interim injunction Wednesday blocking the extradition of a radical cleric to the United States on terror charges, granting a court hearing for an appeal. Mustafa Kamal Mustafa — who is better known as Abu Hamza al-Masri — challenged his extradition on charges that include helping set up a terrorist training camp in rural Oregon. The appeal marked yet another legal twist in a case that has wound its way through the courts for eight years. (Snip) Britain's Home Office immediately challenged the appeals.

This doesn't necessarily seem likely, but the latest turns and twists of the global economy open up a scenario whereby markets could get really ugly between now and the election.Basically, we present a plausible scenario in which things get bad on two fronts. The scenario is based on developments over the last several days. (Snip) First, Europe really stalls out. Thanks to the political crisis in Spain, suddenly it's not clear if the ECB's powerful bond buying program will ever get off the ground. Libya’s president says the deadly assault on a U.S. consulate was a “pre-planned act of terrorism” timed for the 9/11 anniversary — not spontaneous savagery sparked by an anti-Islam movie. “They chose this date, 11th of September, to carry a certain message,” President Mohammed Magarief said Wednesday. The trailer for the California-made film “Innocence of the Muslims” had been on YouTube for several months before the terrorists struck, killing U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. The film had “nothing to do with this attack,” Magarief told NBC’s Anne Curry. “Reaction should have been, if it was genuine, should

Washington - Sales of new homes in the United States dipped slightly in August from July but the median price of homes sold during the month rose by a record amount. New-home sales edged down to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 373,000 in August, a dip of 0.3 percent from July's revised rate of 374,000, the Commerce Department said Wednesday. That had been the fastest pace since April 2010 when government tax credits were boosting sales. Sales in August were up 27.7 percent from the pace a year ago. But even with that gain, new-home sales remain well below

President Obama spoke to the UN Tuesday, but what he had to say depended on the media outlet reporting it. It was about “optics” according to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow; “free speech” said CBS’s Nancy Cordes and Iran, explained NBC’s Chuck Todd. Not that they’re wrong. It was a 4,000-word speech. Obama covered a lot of ground. But the ground the major media covered conveniently left out was the most provocative line of the entire speech. The president told the UN that the “future must not belong” to a series of people including “corrupt” leaders and those who “bully women.”

If you're going to believe the polls released from CBS/New York Times this morning -- you know, the polls the media's currently using to beat Romney senseless and to depress Republican enthusiasm, you have to believe that the turnout advantage for Democrats over Republicans will blow away every previous record and common sense. Because these polls are not only telling us that Romney is losing OH, PA, and FL by insurmountable margins; these polls are also telling us that Democrat turnout is projected to blow away every modern record. The NFL and the NFL Referees Association made enough progress in negotiations Tuesday night that the possibility of the locked-out officials returning in time to work this week's games has been discussed, according to sources on both sides. An agreement in principle is at hand, according to one source familiar to talks, although NFL owners have postured with a "no more compromise" stance. Although league sources said it would take a week to get the locked-out officials on the field, the NFLRA says its 121 referees have been trained on the new rules implemented last season,

In an exclusive interview with NBC’s Ann Curry, Libyan President Mohamed Magarief declared the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi a “pre-planned act of terrorism” that was not a spontaneous response to an anti-Muhammad YouTube video. “I have no doubt about that and it’s a pre-planned act of terrorism directed against American citizens,” Magarief said. “If we take the facts about the way it was executed, you can see there is enough proof that it is a pre-planned act of terrorism.” Magarief believes the attack was deliberately carried out on September 11 in order to “carry a certain

Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies’ national conference in New York City. “I hope to change him.” Koch, a frequent critic of the Obama administration’s policies toward Israel, said Obama could allay the Jewish community’s concerns

U.S. chief executives' view of the economy deteriorated sharply in the third quarter and is now as bleak as it was in the immediate aftermath of the last recession, with more planning to cut jobs over the next six months, according to a survey released by the Business Roundtable on Wednesday. The group's CEO Economic Outlook Index tumbled to 66 in the third quarter from 89.1 in the second, in the sharpest drop recorded in the survey's decade-long history. While Christian churches are being destroyed on a near daily basis in Muslim countries throughout the world, the Obama administration is investing millions of dollars to rebuild overseas Islamic mosques and minarets. According to the State Department, the mosque restoration program, first reported on back in 2010, is a “cultural preservation” project designed to “fight Islamic extremism by building relationships with Islamic leaders.” To that end, the State Department, through the US Agency for International Development, is spending millions to preserve mosques and minarets in 27 different Islamic countries.

If a group of citizen volunteers had detected scores of dead people on the voter rolls they would have received broad accolades from all corners of America. Once upon a time in America, we esteemed law abiding citizens who helped law enforcement detect law breakers – especially when it comes to the sanctity of elections. ELMHURST, Ill. — Remember "Obamamania?" In 2008, college campuses were filled with campaign posters and political rallies — and frenzy. This year, it's hard to find a college student truly excited about the presidential race. Take Abraham Mulberry, a freshman at Elmhurst College in suburban Chicago. Mulberry says politics again has become "that thing you don't want to bring up." Mulberry is trying to start a club for young Democrats at his school. Last election, the Elmhurst campus had an active Students for Obama chapter that organized well before the election.
