This presidential election breaks the golden rule in that it isn’t being decided by the economy. Despite all the miserable news about jobs and debt, Obama continues to build a lead over Romney. To explain why, Democrats argue that their guy is “on the right side of history”--that he’s winning simply because he’s right. The Romney camp tends to pin it on press bias and bad poll sampling. Neither explanation speaks to the race, class and gender revolution that’s reshaping US politics. In an odd way, this is an identity politics election. Thomas Edsall has an article

Ever the Artful Dodger of Politics, President Barack Hussein Obama was a one-day wonder at this year’s perfectly useless UN General Assembly. Just one day later, the uncrowned King of the World has been pushed off the front page by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who says New World Order is needed to get away from US dominance. “Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday that a new world order needs to emerge, away from years of what he called American bullying and domination.”

One of the more lamented aspects of the American political culture is how divided the media has become with the proliferation of cable news, the Internet and talk radio. But if that current environment is viewed with some historical perspective, according to Washington Post columnist George Will, it doesn’t seem so bad. In an appearance on WNYC’s “Here’s the Thing” podcast with Alec Baldwin (yes, that Alec Baldwin), Will explained why rough-and-tumble politics has always been with us, and the media is not wholly to blame for today’s coarse political discourse. “[L]ook, 30 years ago – CNN was founded

The Oval Office isn’t the place to learn on the job. That was the line from both Hillary Clinton and John McCain in 2008. In fairness, that’s always the argument the more experienced candidate uses against the less experienced candidate (just ask Mitt Romney). But Barack Obama seemed a special case, easily among the least experienced major-party nominees in U.S. history. A Pew poll in August 2008, found that the biggest concern voters had with Obama fell under the category of “personal abilities and experience.” In a “change” year, Americans swallowed those concerns and voted for the change candidate.

Warning: This post contains graphic sexual language. In September, actor Jason Biggs came under fire for trading in filthy and perverted tweets and he’s still associated with kid’s television network, Nickelodeon. Biggs is the voice of Leonardo in an animated rendition of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” which premieres Saturday Sept. 29 on Nickelodeon. Biggs made headlines when he tweeted nasty, graphic sexual language about Janna Ryan and Ann Romney. Yet Nickelodeon linked to Biggs’ twitter feed even though the “American Pie” actor’s opinions are nowhere near kid-friendly or appropriate. After being rebuked for his despicable actions Biggs

Last night, radio host Mark Levin described the Department of Agriculture and Michelle Obama's new school lunch regulations as "tyranny." Levin was discussing an article that stated many high school athletes and students are not getting enough food each day and are throwing away food because of the mandates instituted this year by the Department of Agriculture. "But I think Michelle Obama is the new Eva Peron with her lunch standards," Levin said. "Like she knows something about this. She knows as much as I do. Eat carrots and celery. Yum, yum. "But I'm gonna tell you something.

Andy Williams, the silky-voiced singer whose recording of Moon River brought him fans all over the world, has died at the age of 84. Williams died on Tuesday night at his home in Branson, Missouri following a year-long battle with bladder cancer, his publicist said. Williams revealed in November 2011 that he was diagnosed with the disease but planned to continue performing. Williams began singing with his brothers as a child, and his easy style and mellow voice led President Ronald Reagan to call him 'a national treasure'. The singer proved ideal for television.

WASHINGTON — Libyan leader Mohamed al-Megaryef said Wednesday that the deadly September 11 attack on the US consulate was a pre-planned assault that had "nothing to do with" an anti-Islam online video. In an interview with NBC News, Megaryef said the attackers fired rocket-propelled grenades and mortar rounds with such accuracy that the attack had to have been planned and carried out by experienced militants. When asked if the offensive anti-Islam movie -- which sparked violent protests across the Muslim world -- had anything to do with the assault, Megaryef replied: "Not on this attack." "Reaction should have been

Within 24 hours of the 9-11 anniversary attack on the United States consulate in Benghazi, U.S. intelligence agencies had strong indications al Qaeda–affiliated operatives were behind the attack, and had even pinpointed the location of one of those attackers. Three separate U.S. intelligence officials who spoke to The Daily Beast said the early information was enough to show that the attack was planned and the work of al Qaeda affiliates operating in Eastern Libya. Nonetheless, it took until late last week for the White House and the administration to formally acknowledge that the Benghazi assault was

BURLINGTON, Iowa — They arrived here in droves in the pouring rain to hear Vice President Joe Biden, an ocean of white guys. There were men in overalls and some in suits, hardcore Democrats and wavering Republicans, undecideds and first-time voters, the unemployed and the angry. After decades of taking a back seat to the growing voting demographics of women and Latinos, middle-class white men are finding themselves front and center again. They are being intensely targeted and wooed by the left and right, as Barack Obama and Mitt Romney fight to hold together their fragile coalitions and

ISLAMABAD - One of Pakistan's most feared Islamists accused President Barack Obama on Wednesday of starting a religious war against Muslims over his handling of a video that mocked the Prophet Mohammad.(snip)" Obama's statements have caused a religious war," Saeed told Reuters in an interview. "This is a very sensitive issue. This is not going to be resolved soon. Obama's statement has started a cultural war." The Obama administration has condemned the film, which ignited Muslim protests around the world as "disgusting". But Western countries remain determined to resist restrictions on freedom of speech

Maybe Lady Gaga’s parents are forsaking their famous daughter. How else to explain Joanne Trattoria, Joe and Cynthia Germanotta’s incomprehensible upper West Side eatery? As if on purpose, the place is missing the creativity and commitment that made their daughter a star. The result is a careless, lifeless production that feels like a weird facsimile of a restaurant rather than the real thing. (Snip)“Chef Art” is Art Smith. The overwhelming majority of public opinion polls show President Obama cruising to re-election. State polls of Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Wisconsin and Iowa are now consistently showing Obama with leads of five points or more. But Romney is not behind in the polls because liberal Republicans are being turned off or independents are moving toward Obama. Most polls show Romney doing very well within his own party and holding his own with independents. Romney is dropping in the polls because pollsters are predicting a Democratic edge in turnout that will make 2008 look like a good year for the GOP.

In another sign that the economic recovery under President Obama is not producing gains for average Americans, median household incomes fell 1.1% in August to $50,678, according to a report released Tuesday by Sentier Research. Since the economic recovery started in June 2009, household incomes are down 5.7%, the Sentier data show, and they are down more than 8% since Obama took office. "Even though we are technically in an economic recovery, real median annual household income is having a difficult time maintaining its present level, much less recovering," said Sentier co-founder and former Census Bureau official Gordon Green.

The last few weeks have witnessed a peculiar and disturbing spectacle: An American administration that has spent a great deal of time and energy apologizing for our liberties—in particular, for what many would regard as the foundation of all our other liberties, namely, the freedom to express our minds as we see fit. This signature freedom, of which Americans were once so boastful, has clearly become a source of befuddled embarrassment to the current administration and many of its liberal supporters.

Perpetual campaigner Barack Obama is everywhere. He's in Las Vegas, the internet, over at Jay and Bey's place, and even showed up on EZ Street's show on Washington DC's interactive urban contemporary radio station WKYS. WKYS features "what's hot in the hip-hop community" and judging from the homepage, it's clear Barack Obama remains "hot" in the hip-hop community. Recovering from an unsettling UNIVISION interview, Barack spent a good portion of his marshmallow interview reciting a laundry list of predictable talking points. The President talked about getting out the vote, and encouraged listeners to register at gottaregister.com.

HOLYOKE, Mass. - A controversial new video on the Internet is bringing some negative attention to Senator Scott Brown's re-election campaign. In it, a group of Brown's supporters got a little wild at a recent rally, yelling war chants and making tomahawk gestures; an apparent reference to his Democratic opponent, Elizabeth Warren, who has claimed Indian heritage. The video was taken at a rally on Saturday in Dorchester, and posted online by the Democratic-leaning website Blue Mass Group.

A Pennsylvania high school has put together a rather startling halftime show for the school’s football games. The New Oxford High School marching band has performed “St. Petersburg 1917,” commemorating the Bolshevik Revolution that brought the communists to power and led to the formation of the Soviet Union. The band, which performed the piece at the Friday night football game on September 14th, wore olive-colored military-style uniforms, and carried red flags–along with giant hammers and sickles. “There is no reason for Americans to celebrate the Russian revolution,” said an irate parent who alerted Fox News to the debacle.

A 23-year-old Nebraska man suffering from toxic blood poisoning stunned doctors after undergoing a “miraculous” recovery in which his failing heart suddenly mended itself. Doctors still don’t have any medical answers as to how Michael Crowe overcame a dangerous and untreatable viral infection that caused his heart to shut down. His family credits good medical work and prayer. Crowe, a second year student at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy, was sent to an Omaha hospital in mid-August where he was diagnosed with acute myocarditis, or inflammation of the heart muscle, The Omaha World-Herald reported.
