NEW YORK — After an hour of fielding questions about Syria, sanctions and nuclear weapons, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had enough. Now, he said, it was his turn to choose the topic — his "new order" which will inevitably replace the current era of what he called U.S. bullying. Continuing his hectic pace of media appearances and diplomatic meetings, Ahmadinejad presented an air of boredom when it came to the hot topic on everyone's mind — Iran's nuclear program and the possibility of impending war. Whether it was feigned or sincere, he said he would much rather

When it comes to the film Innocence of Muslims, our government and the media use a narrative mired in contradictions and false statements provided by the filmmaker, who himself is an untrustworthy source. If we stick to what can be proven we might obtain the possibility that terror supporters produced the film. Muhammad Al Dura and Paliwood are two cases in point, showing the type of stunts used by Palestinian terrorists. So lets examine facts instead of the filmmaker’s fiction:

The stunning photograph of a man lulling his arthritic dog to sleep in Lake Superior has touched so many people that John Unger, 49, and his dog Schoep, 19, have started a foundation to help other dogs in need. The Schoep Legacy Foundation has raised more than $25,000 to help low-income families care for their aging dogs thanks to donations from people as far away as Saudi Arabia and Japan, all inspired by the gorgeous image. Mr Unger's good friend Hannah Stonehouse Hudson, who is a professional photographer, captured the heartbreaking moment between the man and his aging rescue dog

Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner issued an order for Britain to embark on talks on the Falkland Islands. The fierce president attacked David Cameron for not being willing to enter into discussions over the future of the fought-over islands. Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, Ms Fernandez de Kirchner said: "Next year it will be 180 years since the UK illegally usurped our Malvinas Islands. "We reiterate this is not a bilateral issue between the UK and us, this issue has become a global issue." "There have been many resolutions all asking the UK to sit down at the

Iran has unveiled what it says is a new "indigenous" long-range unmanned drone capable of flying over most of the Middle East, state media report. The Shahed (Witness) 129 had a range of 2,000km (1,240 miles) and could be equipped with bombs and missiles, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps said. It is reportedly capable of carrying out reconnaissance and combat missions. Last year, the Iranian authorities displayed a US drone which they claimed to have brought down electronically. The US insisted that Iran neither shot down the the RQ-170 Sentinel nor used electronic warfare or cyber-technology to force it from

Rebels have targeted Syria's army headquarters with two large bomb blasts in the centre of Damascus. Military officials said one of the bombs had caused damage to the main building of the General Staff. The anti-regime Free Syrian Army said they had carried out the attack and claimed dozens had been killed. The army said no-one had died. A BBC reporter in the city said gunfire could still be heard, amid reports that a fierce gun battle had broken out. Syrian state TV quoted a military source saying no senior personnel were harmed by the explosions, but some of the

Matt Damon's new film Promised Land sounds really promising. It's about a cynical young man sent by a large wind farm company to a lovely village in rural Pennsylvania to seduce the locals with tales of the massive sums of money they'll make if they sign a deal to have huge wind turbines built on their farmland. Dollar signs flash in the greedy hicks' eyes. This wind farm scam is crazy: no way would they have made that much money in their entire lives from just farming. Every one rushes to Damon: "Where do I sign?"

Arizona is expanding its Move On When Ready initiative, a program in which high schools reward achievement by allowing students to graduate after two years.(snip) Move On When Ready, passed by the Legislature in 2010, is an effort to boost education based on performance, not "seat time." Participating schools teach an intense curriculum that includes end-of-course examinations. After two years, sophomores who pass the exams can graduate with a Grand Canyon diploma.

Bacon lovers are advised to start bulk buying the breakfast favorite or switch to an alternative, as 'a world shortage of pork and bacon next year is now unavoidable,' warns an industry trade group. Annual production for Europe's main pig producers fell across the board between 2011 and 2012, a trend that 'is being mirrored around the world', warns Britain's National Pig Association. Today's announcement by the National Pig Association, is the latest warning sign of a global problem facing the industry and pork lovers everywhere. Last month, the U.S. Department of Agriculture warned that the Summer drought

So, you ask, tell me why Mitt Romney will make a good president. For background, you say you are a voter who has watched Mitt Romney for a long time and just, well, you know, you just don't like him. (Snip) To which the best response is: Get over it. First, we're not in a position to wait for perfection. Second, the skills of a good candidate do not necessarily translate into the skills needed for the presidency. As Barack Obama and Jimmy Carter both proved, a good campaigner can be a godawful president.

If Ann Romney really is getting tougher, there was no sign of it during her first appearance on The Tonight Show. She did show up in a black leather getup, but upon further inspection there was some frilly pattern stamped into the fabric. As usual, much of the interview focused on the Romneys home life, though her revelation that Mitt is so "cheap" that he turns off the water heater when they leave the house wasn't the most humanizing story she's told. As for Ann's outburst last week, in which she said her husband's critics should "stop it"

The upcoming Presidential debate on October 3 is the most important single event in Mitt Romney’s political career. The elite news media is doing everything they can to convince Romney’s supporters that the election is lost. Americans will be tuning in that evening to see if Governor Romney turns this media narrative on its head. This will be the first time Americans will see President Obama and his challenger side by side. This will be the largest audience to watch the two men side by side without editing or distortion by the media. If Romney wins this debate,

HOBYO, Somalia – The empty whiskey bottles and overturned, sand-filled skiffs littering this once-bustling shoreline are signs the heyday of Somali piracy may be over. Most of the prostitutes are gone and the luxury cars repossessed. Pirates while away their hours playing cards or catching lobsters. "There's nothing to do here these days," said Hassan Abdi, a high school graduate who taught English in a private school before turning to piracy in 2009. "The hopes for a revitalized market are not high." Armed guards aboard cargo ships and an international naval armada that carries out onshore raids

Elizabeth Warren’s Senate campaign is, I think, going rapidly down the drain. On top of her affirmative action fiasco comes another scandal: it appears that she has been practicing law in Massachusetts without a license for some years. Credit William Jacobson, who, like Warren, is a law professor, for the discovery. Jacobson has been one of the most effective members of the blogosphere over the last couple of years, and this story is a tribute to his dogged investigation. His initial post is here. Jacobson establishes that Warren is not licensed in Massachusetts, and never has been;

The late U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, whom Democrat Elizabeth Warren is repeatedly evoking on the campaign trail, railed against the steel conglomerate the Harvard Law professor represented in its bid to avoid paying benefits to retired coal miners. Kennedy filed bills to require bankrupt companies to honor their pension agreements to retirees and specifically cited the company Warren worked for, LTV Steel, for using bankruptcy to shirk payments to retired workers. “Many companies are using bankruptcy courts to abandon their pension plans,” Kennedy said during a speech on the Senate floor

Beginning two weeks ago and going on for 12 days, the White House was adamant that the horrific Sept. 11 attacks on our embassies in Egypt and Libya, which resulted in four dead Americans (one an ambassador) and included burnings of Barack Obama in effigy, were caused by outrage at a 14-minute "film" that had been made by an obscure private citizen and seen only by a handful of people on YouTube. The film, about as offensive to Muslims as "P**s Christ" is to most Christian (and many non-Christian) Americans, was seen by the administration as a perfectly plausible reason

Over in National Journal, pollsters respond to the accusation from John McLaughlin (the pollster, not the television host) reported here last week: John McLaughlin, a Republican pollster and consultant to GOP candidates, told the conservative National Review last week that Democrats are lobbying media pollsters “to weight their surveys to emulate the 2008 Democrat-heavy models.” “The intended effect is to suppress Republican turnout through media polling bias,” McLaughlin said. Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., is unconvinced.

The Post’s Fact Checker, Glenn Kessler, takes issue with my report that since taking office President Obama has skipped his daily intelligence meeting more than half the time. So let’s fact check the Fact Checker. The facts After hearing from sources in the intelligence community that President Obama was not attending his daily intelligence meeting on a daily basis, I asked researchers at the Government Accountability Institute, a nonpartisan research group headed by Peter Schweizer (who is also my business partner in a speechwriting firm, Oval Office Writers) to examine at Obama’s official schedule.

'To see what is in front of one's nose needs a constant struggle." —George Orwell Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaks at the United Nations today, which also happens to be Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar. The timing is apt because when it comes to Iran and Israel, the hardest thing for some people to see or hear is what Iranian leaders say in front of the world's nose. "Iran has been around for the last seven, 10 thousand years. They [the Israelis] have been occupying those territories for the last 60 to 70 years,

"POOR PEOPLE DON'T VOTE." An ACORN organizer named Chris Edwards scrawled the words on a white board in a dingy Las Vegas strip mall. It was the summer of 2008, and Edwards was training a roomful of $8-an-hour job seekers to go out and sign up new voters in the worst parts of town in 109-degree heat. "We have to blow this up, break this axiom that poor people don't vote," Edwards told the room that day. "We have to destroy it." Only by participating, he said urgently, would lower-income people get elected officials who actually cared about their needs.

SAPELO ISLAND, Ga. — Once the huge property tax bills started coming, telephones started ringing. It did not take long for the 50 or so people who live on this largely undeveloped barrier island to realize that life was about to get worse. Sapelo Island, a tangle of salt marsh and sand reachable only by boat, holds the largest community of people who identify themselves as saltwater Geechees. Sometimes called the Gullahs, they have inhabited the nation’s southeast coast for more than two centuries. Theirs is one of the most fragile cultures in America. But off stage the 54-year-old singer is a little more reserved and conservative when it comes to her style.[Snip] Her dressed down ensemble consisted off the loose-fitting sportswear, a flat-peaked baseball cap, a grey scarf and a pair of flip flops, giving her a rather scruffy appearance. That was a perfectly fine speech Barack Obama gave at the United Nations yesterday. Perfectly fine, except that he has been president for the last four years. Perfectly fine, except that terrorists murdered our ambassador in Libya on the 11th anniversary of 9/11. And perfectly fine, except that the head of al Qaeda released a videotape urging that murder and others during what he called a time of “American weakness.” Mr. President: The video didn’t do it. President Obama’s supporters are obsessed with being “on the right side of history.” This is, after all, the essence of progressivism — history progresses, always upward (don’t ask about the Dark Ages), and progressives exist to speed up that “progress.” This, in turn, informs the view of this election presented by the Democrats and the media. Bill Clinton gave an effective (if highly misleading) speech at the Democratic convention, a tape emerged of Mitt Romney’s unfortunate remarks at a fundraiser, and — voila! — history has spoken: Obama’s reelection is inevitable.

It’s no surprise that Ralph Nader isn’t a fan of former President George W. Bush. After all, the longtime activist ran against him in both 2000 and 2004. But Nader’s even less a fan of President Barack Obama, if only because he thinks Obama was capable of so much more. On issues related to the military and foreign policy, Obama’s worse than Bush, “in the sense that he’s more aggressive, more illegal worldwide,” Nader told POLITICO, going so far as to call Obama a “war criminal.” “He’s gone beyond George W. Bush in drones, for example.
